View Full Version : Misconception About the sawed off

There is alot of misconception going around, created by both parties for and against the SoS. Here i will be trying to clean them up and start an intelligent thread in which to inform and help epic game and the community.

1) - The SoS is too powerful.

- This is simply not the case. Infact against competent players, its a very bad weapon under most situations.

2) - The SoS is easy to work around and combat.

- This is true, if you play correctly you can get around any SoS users. Take every corner as large as you can, upon contact either rifle or gnasher them from a decent range. The SoS user will only be able to score a kill on you if they corner camp, under a normal fight. Take the corner as large as possible and shoot at them, the SoS user will have 2 choice, roadie run away or charge at you. If you see him charge keep shooting and he will die if you took the corner very large.

3) - The SoS promotes a very terrible gameplay.

-This is also true, as seen above how i and everyone with half a brain deals with the gun. It promotes boring and bad gameplay not only from the corner camper, but also from the other player. You have to sit with your rifle or gnasher walking and literally shoot at their feet and arm until they decide either going foward and face their death or simply running away in hope they can find an easy, terrible or distracted prey.

4) - The SoS have the same impact on every gametypes.

-This is false, the gameplay problematic are bigger in a gametype like KOTH, where players are forced to walk into an area. Making it drasticly harder to avoid then most other kill/death based gametypes, where you can decide of your positioning at all times.

5) - Lowering the SoS gib range would fix everything.

-This is false, the problem is not cause by the range. Its only amplified by it. Id go as far as saying the spread of the shot is even a bigger part of the problem. Lowering the gib range wouldnt stop corner camping to work on unaware player. It also wouldnt help you cap a hill in KOTH when 3 of them run toward you and to cap you have to sit in a 5 meter circle.


In conclusion, epic game as already mentioned they are looking at the gun. But im here to tell you the change wont be as simple as lower the gib range. Epic will look at it much longer then what most of you guys belive before going ahead with the correct change. It will be handled like the smoke grenade, it took some time but eventually they made the right call. Current smoke grenade are still perfect in my book. Im sure they can make the SoS good enough when they decide on the right call.

The spread is the reason the noobs use it, no aim required, so at least let them have that. But the range is where it crosses the line. With the spread and range being better than the gnasher, it is nearly impossible to gib a SOS users, unless from behind or they miss. If you get caught in cqc with the gnasher out vs a SOS user, you should have at least a chance to gib the SOS users, not run away and wait for a better opportunity to kill the SOS user.

SOS wills till be useful because no aim required, just you have to get a little closer. And gnasher users can actually get close enough to gib in those quick situation where you don't have time to fire 2-3+ bullets into an SOS user.
