is it possible to unlock Versus Medals in 1v1 online or local splitscreen matches?

Yep. That's how I unlocked Kantus via 600 revives.

Start up a private CTL game, casual bots (they move slower), friendly far on. Once it starts, just down and revive the leader as many times as you need ;).
