Settings will not save

For whatever extremely annoying reason, my game's settings refuse to save.

EVERY time I start up Gears, all my settings from my audio levels, to MP settings, to controller settings have been wiped and I have to set ALL of them back up all over again. The only thing that seems to be saved is my campaign data. Everything else gets wiped.

Obviously, this practice is EXTREMELY annoying.

I havent checked this. I will as well. Havent really noticed a difference so far though. Since I paly Inverted(Up is down, Down is up), that has not changed on me yet.

I will look at all the other changes to see if they are still in effect or not.

Don't know yet, I tried to clear up cache= Nothing. I tried to remove all my game saves on GOW 3 to restart brand new, I cannot see Achievements with 0 progression(except onlive) in the game. I hope Epic will fix that, I don't want to beat the whole campaign on insane and have no achievements when the ''patch'' comes out'' and restart to zero, I'm waiting for a fix to continue the story

Well, just to update, for whatever odd reason I'm able to receive achievements today.

I havn't turned my Xbox off and turned it back on to see whether or not settings are saving yet, but at least I can play through the campaign in confidence now.

I wish I could offer some support, but outside of not playing my Xbox for the past 18 hours or so, I didn't change anything that would allow me to all of a sudden receive achievements. With that said, I still don't see Gears 3 listed under my achievements lol.

I've had basically the same problems as you guys and ended up fixing it by deleting my data and my profile from my xbox then recovering my account. It had to be done like 3 times but it finally worked.

I I have the same problem, multiplayer settings prompt me every time I sign in and the brightness screen. I've played thru all of Act I and no Achievements earned for it even though I did earn some before for multiplayer and Beast mode. Now I can't see my Achievements tab when I view stats and awards in game and also when I view my profile on Live it just says your achievements appear here. Unlock by playing games even though it knows I have 7 out of 50 earned already. This sucks, so bummed I'm not enjoying this great new game

Pretty sure they show up in my stats/rewards (or are at least visible), but as I mentioned before GoW3 isn't listed under my played games either. My GS is going up though, so the achievements are actually there, lost in the void >_>

I'm having the exact same issue and it is annoying the piss outta me. I start up the game and I need to reconfigure brightness/invert the controller/setup multiplayer skins etc. when I press the xbox button to look at my achievements it says my achievements are 0G and my icon is blank. If I sign out and sign back in it gives me the Welcome to the Big Leagues acheivement, then does all of the above again. if I quit out of the game to dashboard it doesn't show my avatar and it looks like I have played 0 games and have 0G.

This is stopping me from playing this game. I've only been waiting for ages for this and now I can't until there is a fix.

I'm gonna give this a shot, but if the very playing of Gears managed to somehow corrupt my profile, something is extremely wrong regardless.

Not to mention it's annoying as hell to recover a profile since for whatever reason they take forever to download >_<

Can your friends compare games with you and see your Gears 3 achievements?
Just to double check, someone said they're unlocking achievements, their gamerscore is going up, but the achievements are not appearing in the Xbox's achievement list?

And also, yes a moderator! Anyways I'll answer your questions from my personal experience and then tell you my problem now.

When I had the problem, (since then I recovered my account and started over, effectively fixing the issue) I do not know if I could get achievements in other games since all I played that day was gears 3.

The problem first began with Gears 3 not even showing up in my recently played games list when i begun the game (during this time i earned no achievements when i should have) I restarted my Xbox and then it showed up in the list and continued to play, earning achievements along the way.

The problem began again when my friends could not see the achievements that it said were unlocked for me though and neither could I since no achievements were shown in my list. I would view the Gears 3 achievement tab and it would say 0 out of 50 obtained however when I went into the tab it showed no achievements (tile and all). I then restarted my Xbox and it appeared to be fixed but in reality when I went into the tab again it said I had 1 out of 3 achievements with only 3 tiles. The achievement I obtained was "Welcome to the Big Leagues" since I've played GoW 1 and 2 before. The other two tiles were locked and two random achievements which I can't remember. I continued to play through Act I though and achievements began to unlock through story progression and collectibles (Collector: Obtaining 5 collectibles) After beating Act 1 I realized my achievements were adding gamerscore but not appearing in the list as it still only showed the three achievements. I recovered my account and the problem finally seemed fixed. All 50 achievements showed up in the list, the game appeared, and when I earned achievements they stayed unlocked. Another problem occurred though when I went onto Xbox.com and saw the achievements were not being uploaded to the site. I recovered my account AGAIN and the achievements I unlocked were not there anymore (besides "Welcome to the Big Leagues). I unlocked them again and now after all that my achievements are unlocking, staying unlocked, being uploaded to Xbox.com.

To answer some of your other questions, my achievements when they unlocked did show up in the stats and awards page however when they disappeared in my list so did their spot in the stats and awards page. The odd thing is though, my campaign stats and my level stayed the same no matter what, so only achievements were affected.

Now the only problem I have left is that my "Collector" achievement is unobtainable no matter what. Beating chapters for story progression have unlocked every time I went back to unlock them but my "Collector" achievement only unlocked at the 5th one and did not unlock at any other collectible after. This counter never reset however the achievement did so at a point I had 8/5 collectible with the achievement still locked. At the moment I have 21/5 collectibles. I have received the achievement for getting 20 but the achievement for getting 5 is still locked. I tried deleting both my campaign save and player data to start over but this just led to new player and and new campaign saves when I got to the start screen. I am assuming all this data in linked to the profile and not the save so really they are pointless to delete. Therefore I cannot restart my collectible count and screwed out of 5g. While small I would still like an achievement I've definitely earned four times over. Below is my image of what the achievement looks like for me at the moment in the stats screen.

-Yep that was me. And nope, they're not appearing. The game isn't even listed. I actually got some of them to show up (though mostly ones that were locked) somehow... don't recall how I did it, even so the list was extremely incomplete, as there were only 8 of them listed.

Edit: Ok... I don't know what the deuce or where to point the finger now, so my apologies to Epic in advance if this issue isn't on yall's end.

So... as I mentioned before I was in the process of recovering my gamertag as someone else suggested.

Now, I've fired the game back up, profile intact, and noticed that my achievements list as a whole is a bit out of order (I know it's usually in order of last played games, but mine no longer is). Not to mention, one of my games (Madden '12) actually completely disappeared until I popped it back in. I havn't done anything that would earn an achievement there, so I'll try to get one in it and see if the problem may have started earlier than I thought.

So anywho, I looked at my Gamerscore and it has actually gone BACK DOWN. I don't recall what the specific number was when I last played, but it ended in a 2 and it now ends in 7. So I'm missing some amount of gamerscore from whatever game that would have ended in 5 (For example 5, 15, 25, or 35 GS). Besides that, all of my Gears 3 achievements are gone; or... so I thought. One of them (the 0 GS achievement) is actually still there, and sure enough, it unlocked yesterday like the rest of my achievements supposedly were doing. I wasn't re-notified of it re-unlocking when the game was booting up this time and its dated 9/21, so I'm pretty sure it definitely unlocked yesterday when the other ones supposedly were.

As for the Stats & Awards achievements, well, they're still there... kind of. Some of them are, by percentage complete, unlocked, yet I don't have the actual achievement on my profile.

Edit 2: Just checked to see whether or not the settings were saving now, and they are. Gonna play a campaign game to see if I get my other achievements back again. Will update soon.

Edit 3: Just got another Campaign achievement, but only one. So now I'm going to have to start over to get the others apparently.

Well I've just completed the campaign and everything still looks good thus far.

I guess at this point its safe to assume that the issue (at least a big chunk of it) was something to do with XBL since it didn't update my profile on the servers and I apparently was only getting achievements on my console. Though I guess that still doesn't explain them being invisible to me even on the console =/

Also, since Madden disappeared entirely, I suppose I can also assume that this issue was occurring PRIOR to Gears 3 being released.

What I can't figure out though is how, given the fact my achievements were unlocked and then disappeared, I was even able to play on Live. I would have assumed that if there was a communication issue between my profile and my connection with Xbox Live that playing multiplayer would, at the very least, be very problematic. Yet I experienced no issues that I know of.

I'll keep monitoring the issue and see if I can figure anything else out. Also, the achievement that I mentioned being completed under stats and awards yet not rewarded fairly randomly unlocked again while I was playing the campaign.

Also, although I've completed the campaign, I did NOT unlock Unarmored Marcus or the Chrome Gnasher. I assume this is probably tied to the problem with the fact that my achievements for completing the other chapters & acts didn't unlock despite my further progression through the game.

Edit: And also, much to my dismay, I didn't unlock the Insane difficulty... ****...

Alrighty I'll summarize it.

1. The issue I first began with was that game settings of any kind would not save, period. I could set MP, Controller, Game, Audio, and Video settings up and they'd stick so long as the game wasn't exited. But every time I exited the game (including simply going to the dashboard) all settings were lost. The game profile would still be on my hard drive, however, the settings simply refused to save. The campaign itself saved fine, but the settings would not.

2. Apparently while this issue was going on, I also was NOT receiving achievements for progressing through the game. I probably wouldn't have noticed this at all at this point if someone hadn't pointed it out. At the time, they weren't unlocking -at all.- This is also the point at which I noticed Gears 3 itself was neither showing up in my achievements list nor games played.

3. Having changed nothing, I quit playing for a while and when I came back achievements randomly started working. I booted up the game and it instantly unlocked the 0 GS achievement. I played through a couple of campaign chapters and sure enough those achievements were unlocking as well. I checked my gamerscore and it was indeed increasing so I hoped everything was fine at that point, but it wasn't.

4. I noticed that although my gamerscore was increasing, the game itself still neither showed up as a played game nor under my achievements list. Somewhere, somehow I figured out how to view the game's achievement list (I think I might have pressed the guide button when one of the achievements unlocked) and noticed that it showed the 0 GS achievement unlocked, but the others were locked, and furthermore the list was incomplete. A total of 8 achievements showed up on the list that I managed to access.

5. I quit playing for a while, again, only to come back and discover that not only were my settings still not saving, but all my achievements were once again locked. Checking the Stats & Rewards tab confirmed that, although I had actually completed an achievement, it was no longer awarded to me. What made that particularly strange is that the 0 GS achievement didn't re-unlock like I would expect it to if it was losing all of the achievements I had gained as a whole. Instead it remain unlocked, and the other ones were locked. I made sure to watch while the game started up too to make sure it didn't just unlock itself twice. Instead, it simply remained unlocked from the same time frame as when the other ones were supposedly unlocking. So this of course meant only some of the achievements were lost instead of all of them though they were obtained within the same playing session as the 0 GS achievement which showed as being unlocked on 9/21 after I recovered my profile and could see achievements.

6. Upon someone's suggestion, I deleted and recovered my profile, and sure enough now both the settings save and the achievements are listed and are able to be unlocked; although, the achievements for completing various parts of the campaign prior to this point remained locked as if they were never earned. These are of course the same achievements from #4 which then disappeared from #5, although they managed to increase my gamerscore when they unlocked. I'm assuming for some reason that the Gears 3-related portion of my profile was for some reason unable to be transmitted to the XBL servers. Strange thing here is that, upon recovering my profile, Gears of War 3 was listed (along with the 0 GS achievement) as having been played. It wasn't my most recently played game like it should have been, but the server did apparently at some point recognize I was playing. What was even stranger about that is that as I mentioned, the 0 GS achievement remained unlocked, although all the others were lost and my GS was reverted. So something happened AFTER that particular achivement unlocked that made the rest disappear into oblivion.

7. While playing through the campaign, one of the achievements that was already unlocked according to the progress bar on the Stats & Awards tab randomly re-unlocked itself while I was playing and became the second achievement that I unlocked (the first being the 0 GS achievement that never went away). This was some time during the end of act III or early act IV.

--------------------THE PROBLEM AT THE MOMENT--------------------

8. Upon completion of the campaign, my achievements for completing the other parts of the campaign (which, obviously would have had to have been completed) remain locked. Not only that, but I did not receive the "Ready for More" achievement for completing the game. Also, neither Unarmored Marcus nor the Chrome Gnasher unlocked although I have completed the campaign. I'm assuming that's because they're both tied to the progress bar of the achievements which should have already been unlocked, but instead disappeared "into the void" and never re-unlocked themselves. Of course, since the game doesn't think I've completed the campaign, I also can't play on the Insane difficulty now.

Also, I have a question regarding the Insane mode. Is there any way, besides replaying the entire campaign again, to unlock it?

It was the achievement for reaching level 5, and I wasn't doing anything special lol. It just unlocked during my campaign play.

Alright, went ahead and ran back through act 1 and all the achievements are unlocking normally as they should. Gonna be a while before I can run back through act 2 and 3 to see whether or not the skin & weapon locks work, as well as whether insane unlocks as it should.

I would If i could reset my stats for the discoverables. I've so far collected around 27 or 28 collectibles and still no achievement.
Also, I beat the game with all my story mode achievements unlocked prior to completion and unlocked everything i should have including Unarmored Marcus and the Chrome Shotgun.

I went ahead and kept playing through the campaign and the achievements unlocked again successfully; also, insane and the character/skin unlocks appropriately became available after I re-gained the achievements for acts II and III.

Yeah. This is pretty much the wackiest issue I've had with a game so far lol. I still can't tell whether Gears itself did something to break my profile, or whether something on XBL's end just doesn't like the way Gears handles achievements. I'm almost inclined to see if I can make it break again. Alas... I hate setting all my settings back up every time far too much lol. Might just be one of those rare fairly isolated issues that is self-correctable, but just annoying.

So Epic, I'd say just put up a thread explaining to people that this issue occurs in very rare circumstances, and that recovering your XBL profile seems to correct it.
