I got my copy of Gears 3 like 2 days ago. And I just beat the campaign about 4 mins ago (nearly teared up :c ) In mercy, Dom gives Marcus his knife to flip that switch after he was done talking to Maria's Grave.

After you beat the Queen at the end of the campaign when she says Marcus's father's arrogense is what killed him, Marcus stabs the queen and kills her. And I finally noticed that that's the very knife that Dom gave Marcus to flip that switch before he sacrificed himself to save Marcus, Jace, Dizzy, Anya, and Sam. Made the campaign that much more meaningful in my mind :)

Yeah I noticed this as well. I thought the "Brothers to the end" relationship built up between Dom and Marcus was done quite well in the campaign. Nice work Epic :)

Still gutted they killed Dom though, Wonder what made them do that cause my missus is raging that Epic killed her fave person. She's never used anyone else online in MP, Always Dom. She feels so attached. She reads the books as well so she's well into the Gears universe. lol

I've never felt so sad/depressed when playing a game till that scene...like wow... i knew it was coming when iheard there wasa big twist... but wow it hurt knowing he was gone :(

lol yeah, I kinda preferred Gears 3 dom over Gears 2 dom (the beard)

and when they killed him off, I got kinda pis*ed. and one thing that made it more special was when Marcus told Cole and Baird, and Baird got sad and Cole raged.

The knife pass was done without any dialogue to point it out - important moment made without having to drive it into your skull. ;)

I totally called Dom's sacrifice, for me that was the only way for him to go, and very well played Epic!

When you first control Marcus, there is $20 on his desk as the first collectable in the game... ;)



But, yeah when Dom died...my girlfriend and I were so ticked. Sure the game was about everyone's struggle and the main story line was Marcus...but the side story with Dom...I think we were more attached to. My girlfriend is still in denial, she says "No, I've seen so many video games...I won't believe it....There was no body, we didn't see a body....so until it is proven Dom is alive!!!!" LOL

I couldn't carry on after Dom died! Had to sleep, but yeah the Dom knife killing her brought it all back well.

I still can't quite get over it though! Amazing what a well-told story can do!

In my opinion, the fact that Dom would die in Gears 3 was pretty predictable and I guessed it would be to save Marcus. The irony is that he died in a manner similar to that of his brother, Carlos.
I remember a few months back there was a poll on Gearspedia on who would die in Gears. Dom got about 70% of the votes.

That wasn't Maria's grave, that was her mother's grave. Dom was filled with regret that he couldn't bury his kids or his wife there. He never got the chance. The knife was a very cool motif; I saw that coming when Dom gave it to Marcus. At that point, I knew he would die.
