This is just a few of hopefully intelligible tips I have put together that I think would benefit someone who wants to unleash the power of the Lancer all over the back of somebody's head. I posted a thread like this about the Hammerburst yesterday. It has some overall tips that apply to the Lancer as well.

Lancer tips
-It’s really the only starting rifle that can pull off steady suppressive fire. What I mean by this is shooting to simply keep the enemy in cover even though you’re not actually hitting them.
-When you look at an enemy that's within mid-range, try pulling the right trigger before pulling the left trigger, see if it benefits you or not.
-It's rarely necessary to use the left trigger when your target is within Retro range. The L triggers accuracy comes at a great cost, the huge blind spot created, it should be avoided when countering a wallbounce.
-In CQC with the Lancer against the Gnasher, be sure to walk backwards and if the enemy is trying to hard aim at you instead of wallbouncing, be sure to pop shot right back at them, just make sure your reticule is on their head, this works great.
-The Lancer is very flinch inducing, which can really mess somebody up if they're trying hip fire shotgun you. Your average player doesn't know how to handle flinching.
-Good clip management can make a huge difference. Shooting short controlled bursts at mid-range keeps it's spread tight and makes the clip last even longer. When your target is moving, try letting up on your right trigger every few rounds.
-If you get rushed and don't have much time to react, make them chase you. -Force them into head on combat- by making them chase you through choke point like a doorway, once you're on the other side, turn around and blaze them, chances are you will catch them running at you completely exposed allowing you to quickly down them. You’ll need to be good at moving fast (wallsliding and such) but this works great against your average player.
-If you can convince a friend to hold a Boomshield, walk behind them and and the two of you will become a tank laying down suppressive fire all the while pushing forward. The person with the Boomshield can't just blindly push forward, they have to be very aware of what angles/weapons the enemy has. If the enemy throws a stun grenade at you, try to plant or drop the shield and break formation before the nade can stun you.
The average player will probably underestimate the power of this tactic as it is something rarely seen. But it works to great effect and it should be given a chance. The shield requires the most teamwork out of any map weapon. Its effectiveness is also based on how open the map is. It wouldn't likely work well on a map like Trenches or Sandbar where there are so many angles to be shot from.
Sadly, none of the shipped map layouts I've seen has the shield in a place that makes itself useful. It's placement on Allfathers Garden in Gears 2 was excellent but few other maps have the shield on both sides, which is how it should be. Placing it in the middle makes little to no sense to me as it is a tool you use to fight, not a weapon to fight over. It'd be sweet if more people saw that the Boomshield has a place in versus, then maybe Epic could place the shield in better (IMO) spots on maps.
-As someone using the Lancer, you will be acquiring a lot of downs which means you will probably often pick up meatshields. DO NOT bag n tag if you are being shot at, the kicking animation leaves you very vulnerable.
Feel free to add to this or call me out on something you disagree with.
I will refrain from doing Retro tips until after release as there have been changes made since the beta.
