What the title says.
Being insulted as a nazi and various other insults without any apparent reason for the whole match is not really what you expect when you want to play a match.

Well, I didn't really play. Just took screenshots and shot his head with my sniper off while he was in midair and barely visible - he was p***ed lol
I waited until he left (with support of others in the match). That's the other side of the medallion:
The (real) community tries to help somebody rather than just ignoring such stuff. :)

The next match (when he was gone) was fine though. Scored almost all scores in the game and switched between the teams, won with 6:5 (just one score from the red team wasn't mine, I was blue). Very balanced match actually but it was an uneven number.

PS: I just hate these "simple-minded" players with prejudices, trolls and spammers. Of course people are insulting each other in matches (in most cases it's sarcasm and meant as jokes, example: "Sly you @$$hole! Why did you do that? :P") but this guy was definitely overdoing it. Especially as a German you feel quite offended when someone calls you a "nazi b*st*rd".

I think such people should just get banned from UT- once and for all.
A "clean" UT will cause a better atmosphere, thus a nicer gaming environment.

My reaction was pretty much like this (http://mmoggames.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/picard-facepalm.jpg) and my only thoughts were "How comes that such people are still around trying to troll and insult others for some unknown reason if the playercount decreased (quite a lot over the last year)? And how comes they have fun doing this?".

I think players should report such people to get rid of them. I doubt that anybody wants to play with such people or wants newcomers to be scared of by them. :/

I still think something has to be done against such players. Just think of the newcomers to the series... The first impression of a game is the most important one and if they meet such people they'll just stop playing the game before they actually started to really play it.

I will agree that there are a lot of ignorant noobs in the UT3 community. One reason we can't have any newbies stay to get better is because we have ignorant players that type bad things that may offend other players from playing again. Trust me, I've seen in it plenty of servers, plenty of times.

The player leaves and you don't see him again...

I'll be honest I do get pissed off a noobs, but its never for not knowing what to do usually. Most of the time its when they start running their mouth about how their team won and blah blah blah, when they had no decision on the outcome. Like warfare team red wins, top 2 playes over 200 points, bottom player on there team is noob 1, who has 20 points for 3 rounds. He starts talking **** on blue because his team won. Now is that right? no. Yes the top 2 red team players who actually know what the hell is going on don't say a word. I just can't stand people who don't know whats going on or are not good enough to even start to talk **** who talk ****.

Oh yes, that server is really nice, I fav'd it yesterday. I wish we EU folks had a server with all those awesome custom maps and all default maps! Most vCTF servers are Suspense Only... Sure, Suspense is a nice map but it gets boring after a while, apart from that it has some minor flaws and bugs (I could fix it if there is no fixed version yet and if admins would be willing to put it on servers). CTF is not popular so I will have to stick with vCTF... The The Last server is the only similar one that I can think of. And geez, you guys even have a vCTF version of Lava Giant and a remake of Atari Tanks!! :eek:
At least I have a decent ping on that server. Will visit it more often in the future so maybe we'll meet again for some vCTF matches Oldskool! ;)

This attitude is very prevalent among the competitive players and has been since day one. It's the old "l337" attitude carried over from the first generation of UT players in it's new "scrub" form.

They either don't realize or don't care that this attitude has played a huge role in the demise of the game. They use negativity and disrespect to draw attention to themselves instead of being positive and encouraging.

They are also very poor losers. A month or so ago I was playing with one of these players and won the match. Instead of congratulating me and taking the loss like a man, the person starts going off on me calling me a "mini-whore" and wanting to "1vs1" LOL. He just kept going on about how " I suck" and need to "1vs1" him.

I left after that match. Sometimes I just don't feel like playing with these people. They remind me of my 12 year old spoiled brat nephew.

1. He constantly hurls insults at other players.

2. He constantly harasses noobs.

3. Whenever he is in a losing battle he quits.

4. Whenever he wins he berates the other players.

Its people like this that make new players quit the game.

He used to go by the name of HeadHunter[BLN], but he changed it after he wore out his welcome on different servers.

(1) what's the point, and (2) where do we draw the line between personal opinions, "widespread" opinion, breaking unwritten rules, and actually breaking ban-worthy rules? I mean, we, the good guys (right?), could document and blacklist all the baddies "for the good of the community," but that just fosters a community of whiners. Once inexperienced players notice our higher standard, they will use their own poor judgement to call out other players for perceived offences. That's just the way of things.

The Internet empowers people to say (and do) some very dumb things that they probably wouldn't say if they never went online. We have entire subcultures devoted to just that. I dunno... when we run into these people--or really, when they run into us--we can just remind ourselves that we are "better" than them because we don't stoop to their level, but that only goes so far. Usually, they will jump at the opportunity to ruin someone else's fun, once they identify someone's weakness and devise a means to exploit it. Real accountability for one's actions on the Internet is a looming topic for debate, but I've always believed that enacting any such measures would be contrary to what the Internet represents, at least with regards to online entertainment. I digress... Sorry if that wasn't completely cogent. We can't fix poor online behavior with words alone, that's for sure.

This statement made me think that you are enjoying and laughing out loudly when you shoot peoples head off with your sniper rifle, while they are in midair and barely visible. Then I was thinking about the vanishing ut3 community and tried to guess how long newbees may stay on such a server when that happens a few times to them.

I know, its easy to feel self-righteous and good and begin a witchhunt on others, pointing with the finger to them. Its a nice to feel superior. But it requires a good portion of bravety and discipline to reflect (first) about oneself.

Nazis were - obviously - in many ways cowards. Its not necesssary to list now examples for that. Anyway, if you doubt this point its easy to catch on it.

Me too, although people complain about the Stinger too and call it spammy and think people should get banned and the Stinger should be removed (which breaks the whole balance and games are worse than with Stinger) :confused:
Sure, when overusing a weapon all the time it can get a small little bit annoying - but is this something to rage about? Nope.
Apart from that, I just shot that guy one time in the match with the Sniper Rifle (when I was going for the keg and he was jumping onto the tower with the kicker) :rolleyes:

Like mentioned before, there are many spawnkillings morons out there (like on sandstorm with fury, some do it during minutes, since you spawn without avril, without stinger, without shock or sniper), there are many gloating and annoying players, many idlers, many team swapers, many snipers, many campers, strange, twisted multiplay admins, sh*t-talkers .... I think there are all kind of (weird) people in ut. compared to other games the atmosphere in ut is not really peacefully.

However, have fun with the witchhunt. All this talking is not changing anything. And remember: The OTHERS are guilty. Not we.

When he joined there was another German I was talking with in the game.
He called him nazi too, he left shortly after (however, it was late anyway and he said that he was about to leave).
This made me come to the conclusion that he must have something against Germans (and I'd say also other peoples since calling Germans nazis is basically racism) in general.

Oh and idlers are not always doing this on purpose. In most cases it's because their UT or PC crashed and something similar to the duplicate login happens. You can log-in normally but cannot join that server you were on before the crash until at least one round is over. Believe me, I had this happen often enough (thanks to my bad luck with technology during this 1/4 year).
In this case notifying the admin of the server or starting a kickvote is something useful.

However, same should be done when people insult others on a server or sabotage or spawnkill/basecamp excessively. Of course a problem is when there is no admin present on a server (just like in my situation).

EDIT: @ Gasolin3: Have you heard of the [GER|PFC] Suspense Only server? Yes, it's a German one (that's why GER) - and quite active/full on some days. However, neither admins seem to be present there nor are there any server rules.
