The Pendulum Wars Elite
Hey all,
My name is Dylan and I have accomplished the first level of Betrayl with a Wretch and boomer involved. (Check Sig) I have completed two test levels, and recently, I have begun a position as a Senior Game Test Manager for the Beast Team. Enough of this chit-chat and let's tell you what I'M bringing YOU today!

An Introduction to Pendulum Wars Elite:
Pendulum Wars Elite, AKA PWE, is a mod that you will playing as the UIR. For those of you who don't know what the UIR is, it is the force that the COG used to fight before E-Day. It was the war known as the Pendulum Wars. Since there is not enough information to build a non-fiction mod, I have built a Gears Historical-Fiction. The characters armor in this campaign do not represent the real UIR. The main actor of PWE is a character known as "Kevin Adams." He is best described as the 'Marcus' of the story. You will get to know more of him during the full version of the campaign. This is not a written story, so the campaign can go anywhere, as far as who dies, where they go. It's not planned out, it's just a 'freestyle' campaign. You will get to know the rest of the squad, and names will be given to them, they may have a story to tell. They're not just left out. Your looking to find Prescott, because he is trying to help Adam Fenix with using the HoD to destroy the UIR forces completely! Look forward to a monkey dog, and some other surprises. Will you encounter Delta squad? Will you encounter Adam Fenix? Will you kill Prescott? But most of all, will you survive the COG?

Update 4: Pendulum Wars Elite has officially been postponed until further notice for various reasons.
Update 5: Pendulum Wars Elite progress has officially been resumed!
Update 6: Full release date changed, alpha and demo video release date added.
Update 7: Pendulum Wars Elite Demo is nearly done, just creating a cinematic, and waiting for a fix from Shooter.
Update 8: Some changes were done ont the character, such as the lighting. And last cinematic is 95% done.
Update 9: Character material has been finished, (THANKS KANTHAM! YOU ROCK!!!) check this (http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/790032-The-Pendulum-Wars-Elite?p=29178436#post29178436) post, and tell me which you guys prefer the most as the emissive armor lighting.
Update 10: Chose to extend the demo a bit further due to very short length.

Yes, lol! You will definitely like this level, it's well worth the wait, from what ideas I have, I will definitely make this a remarkable level. I just have to wait for the Prescott armored model from Gears 3, and I will start Kismet work.

I'm planning to setup my Xbox 360 again and move to Gears 3 when it comes out :p

It will only lose players, not gain them.

Although support and updates will still continue for Project Warzone when its done. The occasional update now and then, maybe every few weeks or so.

Progress on a BIG update will start after exams ;)

It's always fun in the beginning. When you have to start dealing with bugs, editor crashes, optimizing, etc. the fun rapidly fades away. It's a lot of hard work to put something out. :)

Especially the brainstorming aspect, always fun! And yes, the fun does fade quickly when you get so close to doing something then realize it's not possible, although it becomes fun thinking of ways to get around it, hehe.

It's always fun in the beginning. When you have to start dealing with bugs, editor crashes, optimizing, etc. the fun rapidly fades away. It's a lot of hard work to put something out. :)

So people, what ideas would you like to see? I have UIR Elite soldiers, and regular UIR soldiers as teamates, I have Prescott (Not in armor unfortuanetly), and I have regular COG soldiers to fight against. GIVE ME IDEAS!!! :)

I really don't know the history behind the UIR and Cog besides them fighting over imulsion. Perhaps you're assigned to assassinate prescott behind enemy lines or something.... but again, I really don't know much about it.

If the unarmored version works, you could just add to his inventory a snub pistol and that's it.

There are two goverment systems on Sera, technocracy for the UIR and democracy for the COG. The UIR technocracy consists of selecting highly inteligent individuals and training them since childhood to govern, they have no consoles, the only crime punishible by death is downloading or pirating games illegaly, welfare has limitations, criminals are enslaved, there is no crime, no overpopulation, strong anti- baby policies, etc.

On the democracy, there is overpopulation, high crime rates, corruption, streets in bad shape, lawyers, console gaming, etc. Since the mass of sera is stupid, simple minded, and easy to manipulate, democracy is a bad idea.

The democracy has tried to limit Technocracy spread, because democracy leaders want to continue abusing of the mass by exploiting democracy, but since technocracy is the best guvernamental system, non violent means were unsuccesfull.

With resources thin, imulsion was the future and only energy source, and these two factions were figthing for it.

Prescott, a anti-Jesuschrist, lawyer, selfish, polititian, who thinks materialism= happines, is the head of the snake of the COG who is threatening for war with the UIR and sent his nations criminals to UIR territory (first encounter with stranded), to raise chaos, console gaiming and mayhem. He later starts war anyhow.


The mission is to cut the head of the snake, and hope the body dies.

The plan is to send a message to the democracy leaders to back down, but since it is absurd, the UIR only sends some happy trigger goons.

So, once that war is solved, Gears of War 3 can come to pc?

Or, he can make a room completely dark, then have a timer at the top counting down for 1 hour. After the time runs out, the lights turn on and prescott spawns, you die or kill prescott, you get the gameover screen as an ending.

Well, prescott kinda has to be victorious..... on second thought, you are a soldier who has undergone immense plastic surgery to look like prescott, and end up doing the old switch-a-roo. Yes, it's perfect!

I will try my hardest, but it will take a while, I don't want to rush, I want to get all of the things together I want first and then start working on it so that way there is less issues trying to put new weapons in there, etc. On Betrayl, the reason why it was like 5 minutes, and was not creative, is because Kismet held my release back with trying to get the spawn system and the Wretch to work. :)

I am going to implement them on my maps, soon enough.

You could also integrate those maps to the campaing, save time.

That would add to extra characters, but only the orange prisoners would be any good, the advanced gaurds would through off the whole "pendulum war" feeling. But then again, it's not my mod, would be interesting to start off as a prisoner though, it'd be kinda like a full circle thing like marcus.

When I played as the custom characters, they had the left arm "broken", I do not know how to fix either. But maybe you could use them for something else.

2.) Command will NOT be voiced by Anya, it will be by my brother. (Paying him $80 USD each recording session. Total of five sessions. Yikes! http://www.disabilityinsuranceforums.com/i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif Jk)
3.) I will be voicing my character, efforts and chatter will be used from Marcus.
4.) You start off on a street named District Road, and a cinematic beigns you and your squad shooting the hell out of two King Ravens, they blow up.
5.) The UIR is more unprofessional in terms of personality, really lacks organiaztion, using LOTS of profianity.
6.) Your character's name is Gray Mitchell.
7.) Command's name is Kevin Adams.
8.) As you are looking for Prescott, something bad happens to Adams and you travel back to command HQ, and there is that fuucking basterd. Try to guess who.

My problems of course..... but I think level wise it would be interesting to sneak through areas, and even have hidden routes to reach the next location, you know, those quick 90 degree turns you'd miss if you were rodie running.

Unfortuanetly, but, maybe he said he might think about helping again. But, right now, its a no. Matinee for the first part of the 1st chapter is incomplete, voice acting is obsolete now, and mapping is a total disgrace, uglier than a dog with sh1t on his face.

No, only the voice acting and Matinee has stopped, mapping and building will continue, but not as fast as it was before, VERY SLOWLY now, because it will be hard to build if parts are missing, like Matinee.

Once I add sounds for the cinematic, add more meshes to make it more creative, audio is changed, and gameplay is polished, I am still debating on to release an alpha or release a demo video.

May I suggest an alpha better, much more enjoyable than a video,for example, would you rather play a video game or watch a trailer.

Hey guys, I updated the update post.

My demo is shorter than expected because my computer's HDD failed and I lost everything over the summer. But thanks to JUGGERNUT who had a slightly outdated version of PWE, I now have a lot done. But don't expect the Demo to be as long as a chapter from the Gears 1 campaign. It's a portion of that. The download maybe large because of the packages being used are extremely large. So maybe over 150 MB, but Shooter reccommended I compress it using a different program so it will be a smaller download.

Updated update post. Yes, the demo is almost finished, just trying to figure out why a skel mesh is not attaching properly in a cinematic when the physics are set to interpolating. That and Cover Links, after both are done, then out the demo goes!

Ok, just finished the Elite Guard material! Thanks to Kantham's nice material in the LG_Gamepack_E in the Gauntlet update! The finished touches are done! Now, I can still edit this, do you guys like this emissive color? I can change it from red, to this color, to pretty much any color you can mix with red, green, and blue.

Red, Green and Blue can mix any colour, after all if you add them all together you get White, which has every single colour in the spectrum. Onyx Guard wise I'd keep it to blue, gives it more of that "LED" feel. As for specular and the transmission mask, I'd increase the multiplier on specular a bit and lower it slightly on the transmission mask to give it more shine.

No multiplier as in the Multiply thing in the material editor. If you used Kantham's material, he hasn't used the transmission mask.

Only thing I'm doing right now is trying to get the Retro Lancer to work in-game, again. And I am creating a settings menu where you can choose what armor you want, pink emissive lighting, teal, green, etc. I might even make a skeletal model for it showing a preview of what it would look like on your armor. And I'll have a static rotating system, 90 degrees per rotation. Toggle Hidden FTW!!!

Look at the command and see if it wants the "_0" one, then make sure you have that skeletal mesh on the map.

An Introduction to Pendulum Wars Elite:
Pendulum Wars Elite, AKA PWE, is a mod that you will playing as the UIR. For those of you who don't know what the UIR is, it is the force that the COG used to fight before E-Day. It was the war known as the Pendulum Wars. Since there is not enough information to build a non-fiction mod, I have built a Gears Historical-Fiction. The characters armor in this campaign do not represent the real UIR. The main actor of PWE is a character known as "Kevin Adams." He is best described as the 'Marcus' of the story. You will get to know more of him during the full version of the campaign. This is not a written story, so the campaign can go anywhere, as far as who dies, where they go. It's not planned out, it's just a 'freestyle' campaign. You will get to know the rest of the squad, and names will be given to them, they may have a story to tell. They're not just left out. Your looking to find Prescott, because he is trying to help Adam Fenix with using the HoD to destroy the UIR forces completely! Look forward to a monkey dog, and some other surprises. Will you encounter Delta squad? Will you encounter Adam Fenix? Will you kill Prescott? But most of all, will you survive the COG?

PWE Demo 1 has been officially released:

Please take note:
-Very short mod.
-One of the characters on the level has a desturation issue; currently fixing.
-Don't play in-game because Retro Lancer will not currently work; no fix yet.
-During actual gameplay, hit Q on the keyboard or Y on the controller to activate the settings menu where you can see some cool features.

Directions:
1.) Download and put all files anywhere. (Not in My Games folder.)
2.) Open the editor.
3.) Open ALL packages at ONCE. (Hit control button, and then click the packages, and hit open) http://youtu.be/8QdVyUOdRCo
4.) The only thing that it will tell you is it is missing package 000, move along, expected.
5.) Open PWE.war file for intro.
6.) Play PWE, and read written text. (Hitting Start Pendulum Wars Elite will result in nothing due to UEDPIE activity)
7.) Exit and open EliteGuard.war file
8.) Play and enjoy.
9.) Leave comments, feedback, or issues here, or at PWE.Dylan@hotmail.com

I just tried Opening it in the editor for some reason it wont let me open them all at once, i tried clicking ctrl as well. Maybe im doing something wrong? sorry if its a silly question, im a complete novice at using the editor.

Gave this a go, it's got a nice couple of elements I wasn't expecting like custom models and voice lines and you obviously know various technical aspects of the editor, but the design and environment really needs lets it down.

Thanks MaskdShuuyu, I made a hit in the development stage, so it's doing pretty well.

That's surely an odd issue. I never experienced that before. State your PC specs, including your graphics card and the latest firmware for it.

That issue occurs when you are looking at a blank part of the map. Lets say you create a terrain with nothing on it, you will experience that. Possibly a streaming issue? To Masked, try rebuilding in Editor.

UnrealEd tends to have that issue with PIE and streaming. Most of the time I have to Build All before the level becomes visible in PIE.

Yeah sure , but i only thought that it would look cooler with green colour , i know that this is still WIP ,even though it looks really good .
Also i wanted to ask if there's a retro lancer in the demo (i haven't played it) . A recomendation :you should open a MOD page at www.moddb.com , to see your team progress and to give you support.

Thanks, green wouldn't look good, I've tried multiple colors, greyscaling them is probably the best one yet.

lambent I have been meaning to ask how did you do the custom weapons thing, I cannot for the life of me figure it out from the Kismet, I have forcefully attached a custom mesh to a character, which works to a degree, but the gun looks like it has shifted, and then I cannot use any other guns because their model is immediately replaced by the forcefully attached one :rolleyes:

Okay, here is the blueprints so far, this campaign isn't going to be concealed, so you guys know what to see in the future of this mod. I can assure you this mod will not stop until completion, that is a promise I shall keep to the Gears PC modding community. Also, the hairlike lines on the side of the roads are also buildings, not just trees,

Haven't been on this in a while. Sorry, I do have a lot of the blueprint above sketched out, it is two map files, but they are connected. After the P.E, it switches to a new map file which contains not all the objects from the first part, but just enough to make it look like I didn't delete anything by the view in your characters position.

This Campaign is not going to be as long as I expected it to be. I don't have many ideas after the BP above, but enough to complete it. I would love to see your ideas, please list them as I will do my best to implement them into the campaign.

Since I haven't been on for a while, for the people who ask, I do not remember how it exactly works, but I believed I replaced the primary weapon mesh with the RL and changed the sound of fire thanks to a console command I believe I received from Cowboy Locust. Good luck trying to figure out the mess, because I cannot do any further to work on fixing bugs on it. It pretty much is the way it is. No uscript means no new official weapons. If I could somehow copy the Uscript from UDK into this old editor, that would be fantastic. But I'm positive that will never even be possible.

The only thing I can do to improve it is maybe have a Console Command to slow the firing rate so the sound recorded from a Retro Lancer shot will sound realistic to how Gears 3 is.
