just wondering about this question: can i really create things for the iphone on a windows computer, now?

Yes, you can do everything except upload an app to the App Store with a PC. For submitting an app to the App Store, you have to have access to a Mac.

Join the Apple Developer Program for $99 and you can make the necessary provisioning profiles for your devices and the necessary working app IDs.
