When I load up infinity blade it shows the beginning but when it comes to the little infinity blade logo with the spot light I can't play. I click the arrow and it shows a black screen with the pause menu button up top and then it quickly exits out of the game returning me to the home screen

Me neither. I've just updated and am experiencing the exact same issue. I have over 2 million gold and as high up as I can go within level 40. Really annoying and will be rather upset if I have to uninstall...
After Flak's post:
I ended the process (didn't even know how to do this until now!). No joy. Power cycled my device. No joy. I think I had it running as a background process when updating, but surely this would be part of the update routing - it checks and quits if resident in memory? Is this not the same for all iOS apps?
For the record: iPad on latest iOS with a tethered jailbreak. Before you ask: yes I bought IB! How could you not? ;)
Second update after reading a few entries in this thread and others: after a few attempts it launched OK. Please don't stop adding to this superb game!

I resolved this problem by switching off, then on my iPhone (it's a 3GS, by the way).

END THE PROCESS... i was getting this same error and well it turned out it was cuz infinity blade was still running and well it crashed... i dont understand why but thats the cause... end the task either by ending it via multitask bar or switching off as mentioned earlier and it should be fine...

I did the end process and restarted my iPad and mine still crashes. Anybody figure out the fix???

I got this one time. I quit IB in the multitasking menu then started it again and it fixed it.
Hey folks. To those of you that aren't able to play even after shutting down the game from the multi-task bar or restarting your device, could you let me know which device you are using and which iOS?
Also please let me know if you had the game running in the background when you updated.

In my case game was running in background when updated.
Removing from dock did not work. On off did not work. Was able to hit he pause button on the screen before crash. Just reset to bloodline one and everything is back to normal.
Later iOS on iPad.

Same problem here. Closing IB and power cycle have no effect.
IB was running in background during update. I'm running iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3GS.
Great game guys, looking forward to playing again. tvm.

I'm using iOS 4.2.1 on the 4th Gen iTouch. Turning the device on and off did not work. Not sure if the game was running in the background, I don't know how to determine that.
EDIT: I figured out how to quit the process and I did that and restarted my iTouch. It worked, but then as I was battling an enemy the game crashed while I was doing the finishing bonus.

I was having the same problem on my iPhone 3GS. Had IB running in the background when I updated. Turned phone off/on, still had problem not able to get past opening screen.
So then I closed IB from the multitask menu, resynched my iPhone with iTunes, and tried launching again and it worked. Seems like the problem is related to IB running while the update happens. If you resynch without IB running, it should work.

Having this same issue. iPhone 4, IOS 4.2.1, app closed when updating, turning on and off didn't fix.
*UPDATE* Having tried multiple combinations of closing the app, power off and resyncing, it's now managed to rectify itself so I'm a happy bunny again.

IB was running in the background on my iPad With the latest iOS. I closed it out in the multi-task bar then gave it a try and it crashed. Did it again with a restart and it crashed. Gave up and tried later in the day and it loaded up with no problems, go figure. Thanks though.

I need a little more info if you could. Is the issue still persisting after you back up and restore the app? Where were you in the game before you updated? What level were you before you updated?

my roommate said on his iPad IB was crashing when he ran it while Game Center app was open. hope that helps.

At point of update I had just killed the first enemy on another run through, facing the 2nd. IB was in the background during update. I updated via iTunes, rather than directly on the phone.
I have been reluctant to delete the app and restore it as that will take my bloodline with it, surely? OTOH if that fixes it, building my character up will give me something to do over xmas :)
Hey guys, you can get your save game back if you do this:
Plug your iOS device into your computer.
Open iTunes on the computer.
Right click the device in iTunes to bring up a sub menu.
Select the Backup option in the sub menu.
After you have successfully backed up your iOS device, then disconnect the device, download the updated version of Infinity Blade, re-connect, and re-sync the device from iTunes
If the game crashes or you get stuck:
Plug the iOS device into your computer.
Open up iTunes and right click your iOS device to open up the device sub menu.
Select Restore from the backup option.
Re-start the game - you will be at the place in the game where you last backed up your device.
