Need help on Magic

This is a silly question, but how to cast magic as I intended? I equipped myself with ring with heal as one of the magics. When I want to cast heal, it always end up shielding instead of healing. How to cast healing properly? Thanks a lot!

You just have to make the gesture that is drawn for respective icon. I.e. going from bold end to the thin one. Heal is more of a letter U, and shield an lower case N. Lightning is a Z, fire O etc.
