View Full Version : Scaleform UI Creation with Adobe Flex?
Is it possible to make Scaleform user interfaces with Adobe's free, open-source flash development SDK Adobe Flex (http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Flex+SDK)? Wherever I've read about Scaleform UI creation, it has been stated that Adobe Flash CS was required, but is this really true? Would it be possible to use the CLIK objects in Adobe Flex, and simply run the .swf file with the FXMediaPlayer manually? Or does Adobe Flash CS provide some feature that is critical to development? I realize that the user experience with Adobe Flex would not be nearly as ideal as with Adobe Flash CS5, but for those of us who don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to use a "free" engine I think it would be worth it. It would be great if someone had any information on this. Thanks!

The current version of Scaleform only supports AS2. Flex is AS3 only. From what I understand, they are working on a version of Scaleform that supports AS3, but even then it may not fully support AS3. Someone from Scaleform could provide more details on that.
Thank you for the info - I always assumed that Flex had an AS2 version, but never looked that far back into the previous releases. I guess I'll just have to wait until Scaleform supports AS3 and then see.

Yeah, I would definitely love to be able to develop Scaleform interfaces using Flex because I am MUCH more familiar with Flex. Flex fits me better since I am more of a programmer than a designer.
