You got the general idea on what to do. you just have to add more map detail. add some static meshs and texture to the ground. for the secound map u need to cover the black areas with meshs, for example buildings or rocks. you could also make the maps 2,3 times bigger.

Ok, two little simple unfinshed maps, at least you can make locusts spawn and attack, a good start, although very basic and unifinished level design, just pure box, but the gameplay is in the right path, good luck...

Use the Content Browser/Generic Browser, and go through the packages located in the Gears of War folder. You're looking for static meshes. Be warned, they are in no real logical order, so you'll want to look up that post someone did that listed all the materials/meshes in packages. When you find a mesh you want to add (such as a column), left-click the mesh in the browser, then left-click the surface in the viewport that you want it to go on, then right click and select "Add StaticMesh: Insert-mesh-path-and-name-here." Then you can move it around, rotate it, and resize it using the widget.

Edit: If you're serious about getting into building levels with GoW, UT3, or the UDK, I highly recommend this book. It's super easy to learn using this: http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Unreal-Technology-Introduction-ebook/dp/B00164X2DG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2&s=digital-text&qid=1281980469&sr=8-5

Is the book on the Gears of War type Unreal Engine?

The book uses Unreal Tournament 3 and includes a down loadable copy from Steam.

Enjoy!!!

It is probably crashing because you havent cooked them, are you getting a runtime error when you play them in Gears? I had this problem a few months ago and I disabled xfire ingame and put settings to default and that got rid of it :)

I did get the runtime error, but I reinstalled the game, and it worked.

You have to understand, a nearly 3 year old P:C game that was never that popular to begin with, with strict modding ability's, leads to a very small / dead modding community.

ok, i guess.

It is a shame.
But this is what you get when you release a game on the PC after a YEAR of it being on the consoles, anybody who really wanted to play it, already played it on the 360 (For the most part)

Plus, back in this games launch in late 2007, not many people had high power PC's so getting the game to run at a steady FPS was rough.

I personally have really enjoyed the game on PC because of it's superior graphics over the 360, I was also pumped to make mods for the game, right up until I realized how strict it was.

The so called "Game Editor" is says on the back of the box, all the tool is really meant for is to make Multiplayer Maps, we have to rig up the game in odd ways to make Single Player maps, like using the Console to load up maps by commands, rather then just having a mini-menu somewhere for Custom Content.

Yeah, in Gears 3, if they have a PC, they should have your maps and stuff and SIngle Player stuff in the selection when you play.

Can you post some screenshots? It's always a good idea to include them. Helps people know what to expect (to a small degree), which gets you more downloads and more feedback. ;)

Yes, I can do that no problem, I'm just working on something big right now, and I don't have the time right now, but I'll do it around 9:00 EST, I would make a video, but HyperCam screws the sound up and it doesn't match up with the video.

Try FRAPS for video. It works flawlessly. Just hope you have enough system resources to withstand the hammer it will take to your CPU and RAM.

A minor glitch, and you can alter the amount of frames to capture per second, basically the longer you record the more off-sync it becomes.

Again, FRAPS works just fine. Your PC can handle it, and it's $10 for a license if you don't want the FRAPS logo on your video.
