This thread is full of artwork. The pencil stuff is mine.

Well, as many of you know by now, Bernie Mataki is quite the badass. So I decided to draw a kickass image of her based off the description given to us yesterday.

Note that I drew this before I saw the official image. The resemblence is uncanny, but only in the face and arms and hair. The armor and tattoos are entirely different, and the official Bernie doesn't have a knife on her chest.

Here's the official images of her (I forgot who found them, but if I could I would hug them purple). Totally awesome.

Keep in mind that these images are low-res and all the color is sapped out, so it's very hard to tell that she's full of age-lines and weathered features. But they're there; she has crows feet, heavy lines on either side of her mouth, folds in her neck, and heavy baggage under her eyes. Also, her hair's pretty grey.

Pretty cool, right? I just found my new default Multiplayer character.

As a bonus, here are my other two drawings of Bernie. These ones are fairly decent, but I drew them last Fall and Winter. So they're outdated, and don't look much like Bernie at all.

Here's the first one. I like the close-up on the eye, and the face. The tattoos are alright.

And here's the second one. This one took a craaa-aaapload of work, and still came out exceedingly hard to see, even though I darkened it extensively. My scanner sucked (it's now broken, so I use my grandmother's ).

As you can see, the arms are man-arms. That's my bad, this was the first time I seriously attempted to draw a female figure. So yeah, the arms suck. Bad. But everything else is good, right?

Hope you liked! :D

BERNIE FTW!

Good job, Thumbs.

Your artist technique has improved a lot over the span of time since the first drawing.

I wish to be the first to say that I congratulate you on this huge success. :D

Thanks! :D

They say that if you draw/write for 30 minutes a day, you'll begin to improve. Well, I hardly draw anymore... and yet my power level continues to grow exponentially. It is only a matter of time before I conquer the world and rule it with an iron pencil!!!! :p

Again, thanks. :)

How amazing is that!!! Loving that your sketch is so similar to the pictures of Bernie, goes to show that a good description goes a long way.

You are very talented Thumbs, I am seriously impressed. :D

Nice job, the dread are awesome, and its great what you have done and taken just from one writers description.

The expression on her face is... creepy but shows a hardcore sort of person :P
The armor has great detail in it, good job.

You nailed her based on the description. Congratulations Thumbs, that is a very difficult thing to do. :)

And yes, how some have said, your technique has improved a lot too. Excellent fanart. Have you considered shading/colouring your pieces?

Creepy? Perhaps. :p I see some things I'd like to change but I don't think it's necessary.

Thanks!

The thing is, her face looks a lot like her face in my older drawings. If you compare them all, you can see many of the same elements in every drawing; the chin, the nose, the eyes. But after looking at the faces of a bunch of women of various ages and ethnicities (I was actually at an annual ranch party when I drew the picture) I realized that I should be drawing Bernie's head in a different shape.

I have considered shading/colouring (I've got a Locust drawing I'm working on that'll blow your socks off with the shading alone) but this was just a quick piece. I used to use Gimp 2.0 to color but that program was only on our desktop, which is so absurdly slow now that you can't get anything done on there.

Thanks guys! :)

Thumbs - that is very sexy work and the resemblance is too uncanny! I envy you! If I attempted to draw a female, it would end up looking like Arnold.... no joke. Very nice and I just found my new favorite from you.

Dammit, where's that rock on smiley when ya' need it?

She looks nicer with the shorter hair but she looks really man-ish and old =/

She is old.

And she's not man-ish. She's Pacific Islander. I was at a ranch party when I drew this last night, and some of the women there made good reference pictures.

Also, ROCK ON Skorge.

Again with the oldness.

She is supposed to be in her 60s!!!!!!!!!

It's probably just me, but I can't help shake the feeling that in Bernie's official picture, she looks... young?

Woooow. Amazing stuff Wisdom.

I love the rugged armor shes wearing. She looks like she'd kick some locust ass. love the dents and scratches.
Nice arms you drew on her too.
And yeah, you've improved a hellava lot. good job.

I prefere the non-shouldered armor bernie, like your drawing.;) Kickass.
It looks alot like her in the picture too.

OMFG BlkBullet commenting in my thread, on my artwork? NO WAI.

I really like the non-pauldron Bernie too, but I love the pauldrons they made for her in Gears 3. So I'll take what they give and love it, it's good either way.

And Jay? It's a low-res image. In fact, it's a low-res photo taken of a slideshow from a distance. And there's no color in it either. But if you look REEEAAALLLY carefully, you can see that she's got crow's feet, folds in her neck, heavy lines either side of her mouth, and her cheekbones stick out like an old person's.

So, while you can't really see it, she has a lot of aging on her in the official picture.
