the artwork thread doesnt get enough publicity where im concerned. i thought id make a thread where you can post your greatest gears of war work. i believe that anything designed by someone is art so it can be anything from drawings to paintings to custom action figures to sigs to fan fictions but it has to be your best work, the one your most proud of... your master piece.

ill post my theron drawing when im done with it as its my first real gears drawing, it wont be the finest work ill do drawing gears of war concept but it is so far so ill post it.

dont be shy to post either artwork is not appreciated enough, use this thread to show us what you can do.

While this is a good idea, it still will not bring in more users to the Artwork forum. The only way to do that is to post a link in your signature block. You can embed the link in a short statement about visiting the Artwork forums to show support for the starving artists. Okay, we may not be starving, but you get the point.

I personally feel creating your own topic is better, it draws more attention to your artwork, and it isn't compared with others / have attention split between.

@Adam, nice piece, the shading is brilliant, especially on the armor, i feel the gun is a bit too linear compared to the rest, perhaps it could use a bit more shading.

Thanks. I don't feel like going back to change that piece since I sadly can't locate the paper copy of the artwork... I had a binder I stuffed it in... but now I can't locate that binder. :( I went so far as to give my picture the Gears of War 2 version of the Lancer.

That friggin' thing took me over 10 hours to sketch, draw, and shade! :p:o Not to mention I have a shaky left hand... which made drawing even more difficult when I'd steady the paper.

i appreciate all artwork but drawing is where my passion lies, its a nice concept mate, i like how you havnt shaded the lancer to make marcus more distinct, you realised that the lancer wouldnt be very visible if you shaded it, so you outlined it and left it. this makes it stand out and give a good effect to the piece, almost a layered colarge look. i like your attention to detail bro.

i didnt see the savage one, i remember i suggested that you use a terminator figures arm to get a good look for there bionic type arm. get it on the forum man !

That's pretty good Adam...but anyhoot, I agree with Crotale, setting up a thread for people to post their work may not increase the activity, unless someone can post and get stickied a artwork "portfolio thread" that has some links to show off some work, but even that may have it's limits.

...I dunno, I'm not going to post my stuff simply because it's for my FF and most people would not understand the backstory of the characters I present, so I post them with my fanfic thread, and they may get some views there...but I really don't consider myself that good of an artist.

My second Gears of War poem (06/25/2010)

The war for imulsion seemed to never end
It was a hard thing to comprehend
That we fought eachother for so long
That battle now moves on
Now new threats come
One that makes the hardiest warriors shun
Enemies that come from below the ground
Creatures that us humans have never been around
They came up at dawn
They look like hell spawn
When they first came up we didn't know what to do
Should we try to reason with them or just shoot
Reasoning didn't work and shooting didn't as well

:oYeah. He took me quite awhile. Mainly because I got lazy and stopped coloring him, then went to draw other things.
But Yeah was more than a year. I'd say about 15 hours if I didn't take any time off. I would color some and get really tired because I was always coloring him in the late to early hours.
I had to finish him though. Don't like leaving things unfinished. Feels icky inside.
And now he's missing his croc skin. Back to the unfinished folder with you. :D
So, that needs to be finished.

And for the rest of your squad. You can always put red horns on their heads. :D

Blast to the past here, and I'll try to be constructive, but before you do anything you should definitely work on proportions/anatomy. This is a good start, though. A few tips would be to sketch up a "skeleton" (faint lines for where the arms and legs and such are going to be/bend, poses, etc.) and then moving on to drawing outlines outgoing from this skeleton. When you've got a good baseline body drawn up, move on to details such as face, clothes, hair, and whatever. THEN you can move on to finer details, followed by shading. Run it through a few filters i Photoshop if you want to really make it look good. I'm only trying to help you here.

My own masterpiece has nothing to do with Gears so I'll leave it out for now...

Thanks for the compliments, a lot of his gear I kind of just made up as I went along, just wanted it to look worn and used, like it was passed down and he just added peices and straps to hold it together, the knee pads I wanted to kind of look like skulls with big teeth...as for the gun...I have no idea what it is...lol

As for the fan characters not wearing helmets, I guess they take after the bad-asses of Delta Squad :P Want to be remembered through action and fashion lol. That guy with the spiked hair in the front is me (although I no longer have spikes :/), and everyone else is a friend of mine, interpreted into the Gears universe.
As for the second piece, that good-lookin' Gear on the right is me, haha. The guy in the middle is my friend Chris(the one in the first one, who has his fingers to his earpiece), and the other guy with the bandana and face tattoo (he's a South Islander!) is my friend Carlos, the Gear up front pointing in TF Charlie. I'm such a friggin' Gearhead and being an artist, I enjoy putting time and effort into a piece that revolves around a series I am all about.

Can you use a stylus on the iPad? As to whether using a stylus would change the quality of your drawings is my guess, but wouldn't that make your drawing a little easier?

starting the detail..;.....this sucker is a true 1:1 ratio and it actually resembles the game drone,reason im doing this is i was kinda disapointed with the chris perna maquette,amazing sculpt but to me hardly resembled the locust and was smaller than a human head,i think im gonna make this a bust / mask for my costume...ill need to make two molds when im done,,and thanks for all the compliments,they keep me going

For the background, maybe add in some buildings? Sometimes I actually use screens from the game itself as backgrounds, I just filter and adjust them in PS to fit my needs. :)

Thanks Boss! :D I cleaned up the lines a lot once I finished up the picture :) and Baird is awesome so... :)

Oh and thanks for the tip on backgrounds, and I think you're right some buildings probably would have been a good idea. I have a hard time with backgrounds so I'll definitely look into that, Thanks again :D

Yeah, backgrounds can take up more time than the drawing the actual characters themselves, so I usually try to find a way to avoid including them, mostly because drawing the characters is the fun part! ;)

You've done a great job blending that in, I wouldn't have noticed that was Day One unless you told me :)

I usually don't include them at all so the character ends up floating around :) trouble is I can never work out whether to draw the character first or the background :p

Thanks, and I usually don't include detailed backgrounds either. I tend to just frame the characters on something other than a plain background though, just to keep it looking interesting. Like this...

Those kinda backgrounds are quick to make, but still frame the character nicely, so it's not just floating in empty space.

Are you gonna ink and color Baird? That would be interesting to see. ;)
