Hey guys, I'm currently a student at the Art Institute of Santa Monica. This college specifically has a program called Game Wizards. Basically Game Wizards is a class that simulates a real gaming company. This quarter we got into 8 teams and started making small games that we can sumbit to IGF and IndieCade. My game is called Stack-a-Bull.

Stack-a-Bull has been drastically changed up since last time due to various problems with our theme and story. Our final story involves Benny the Bull being found on the doorstep of Santa's Factory one cold Christmas eve. Since Santa is such a nice guy, he takes Benny in as his own. As Benny grows up, he wants to make toys like the other elves, but cannot since he is too clumsy. One Christmas eve Santa has a larger workload than ever before. The elves that normally load the wrapped presents into Santa's patented toy shrinker so they can fit into his sleigh have been called into the factory to help with toy production. So santa asks Benny the bull to put the presents into the toy shrinker and save Christmas.

Lol yeah, fraps was the culprit. Since the timer is done by the tick function fraps slowed down the game a little bit so the timer was off, it works fine normally:D. Thank you for the enthusiasm so far! Im hoping that in the next week or so we can get an official tutorial level blocked out so I can package what we have so far and give it to you guys to try out.

Oooh!

Lovely idea. Will need some tweaking here and there, but it's already a lovely little game. :)
Can't wait to see more.

Ok guys, as I promised, here is the first alpha of our game Stack-a-Bull, all packaged and ready to play! it has a basic tutorial segment and the first level. This is all gameplay testing so far, so everything visual in the game is a placeholder. Please tell me what you think thus far and what should be improved/what you would like to see! the link is in the first post. Thanks guys!

One thing to note: the timer is based on the tick function right now, so if your game runs consistently at lower than around 60fps the timer will probably be off. Been trying to figure out how to make a timer that does not rely on the games speed.

Would it not be possible to use the DeltaTime value in the Tick function:

TimerValue -= DeltaTime;

Since DeltaTime contains the amount of time that has passed since the last Tick.

Or you could use the Timer function:

SetTimer(60.0f,false,'GameTimer')

then you can check the current count for the timer this way:

GetTimerCount('GameTimer')

and make a function to do whatever when the timer is done:

function GameTimer()
{
//your code
}

Good stuff!!

It was fun working with you guys the other day and developing the concept of the "soft boxes". Watching that video reference of china factories was fascinating.

I'm anxious to see how this game will develop after 9 months.

Yeah seriously, thanks hramajo. I'm just starting out but I've already come up against the question of a timer, and I honestly don't know enough about the engine (or programming for that matter) yet to have solved that myself just yet. So thanks for the insight.

to DeathsSilkyMist: good luck to your team on the project, sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks gausswerks! I posted a video of the latest gameplay. If you have any comments or suggestions please dont hesitate! Right now we are working on developing the art style so the gameplay work has slowed down a little bit.

Well if Xfire could be included to support UDK Video Documention might be easier to do with regards to the video hiccup you had.
