So confused with Gow series

My confusion is why is it for each gears that I play at the end its a win for the humans yet every episode that comes out the humans are worse off? What the hell is happening in between the making of each gears episode? Is there any where I can read to fill in the blanks of the story

they might win the battle, but that means that they slowly run out of gears/population/ammo/resources. And ultimately they were forced to burn Sera and destroy their last stronghold

Gears Of War: Aspho Fields, Gears Of War: Jacinto's Remnant, Gears Of War: Anvil Gate. Those will held you understand everything. But a little warning. You'll get kinda confused the books jump around a lot. But you'll figure it all out.

Because war decimate populations and resources and leaves psychological scarred soldiers and civilians.

War at the least unites people, when the war is over, the people don't have that reason to unite. They don't have an enemy to focus on and no reason to put aside their difference.

It isn't a simple black and white issue that good wins over evil and lives happily ever after.
