i made a computer desk and drum set and some other random things and imported them into udk. what i was wondering is, why does only 1 material cover the entire object? the desk for example i used 3 different textures on it and i imported all 3 into udk along with the desk to use. udk gives me 3 different elements being 0, 1, and 2 all of which i can add a material to. but only the first material, being 0 covers the entire object. how can i fix this?

Were the materials you created in max multy/sub materials?
If not do it that way.

what do you mean? im pretty new to all of these programs. but what i did was just take the textures i used in 3ds and changed the size so they were 512 x 512 then imported them. the materials work, its just that 1 material covers the entire object instead of each one in the 3 different places.
unless this is not what you were trying to tell me. and if not please explain what i need to do. thank you

Yes...exactly. You need to use a multy -sub material instead of several different materials and assign the elements on the specified polygons.
This is a very simple tutorial to get you an idea: http://hourences.com/book/tutorialsue3modeling1.htm
