Hi guys

For my dissertation I have decided to create a short game in UDK based on child soldiers and/or genocide. Im not 100% on the story at the mo, will be after xmas tho.

my mum does work for aid organisations and one time she brought some stuff on child soldiers. i then did some research into child soldiers and I uncovered some shocking stuff/controversial stuff so that stuff will be added in the gameplay.

Originally it was meant to be set in afghanistan (with an awesome storyline i must say lol) but then i saw the first couple chapters in MW2 and they had everything i was gonna add (oooooo im infinity ward material lol, kiddin. u know the big bridge truck thing, i wasmodelling one myself) then i thought i would probably get ripped for stealing everything in MW2 and it wouldnt be as awesome.
I was already planning the child soldier project before hand tho then i decided to go full steam ahead with it.

So im gonna post up some stuff before I begin.

at the moment im doin simple custom civilian/rebel animations(thanks to animator at epic dude and Denny) and trying to adapt to UDK and stuff. im also doin up the levels too. MP maps coming VERY VERY soon

i think i get extra marks for thread views too, so everyone spam lol

i have loads more weapons to move from UT3 to UDK. will do it during xmas break

I'm pretty sure that big bridge truck things are there in real life.

I was writing a storyline once spent like a year making everything as perfect and awesome as possible. Then I watched two movies called Day Watch and Night Watch, and was like "wow this is really close to my story." And then I read the books and it was exact same ****ing thing! So I know how you feel.

Anyway I like the flags. And the story sounds good, although maybe harder to implement into a game, and might also piss a lot of people off. If you do a really good job it might get banned in Russia like the airport level in MW2!

unfortunately my 3D Max 2010 trial ran out and i cant DL the old versions legally. but Autodesk phoned me and told me bout a waaaaay cheaper student version sooo im gonna have to wait for my student loan and get that

feedback will be abit slow till after Xmas but after that expect loads of tech demos and characters and stuff.

im goin to release a rooftop level beta (ala HighRise) just after Xmas too :0)

All fair luck to OP... but this line here just made me giggle... as if there was a not grim side of war. Hrmmm, I wanna see the side of war with the bunnies and chocolate ice cream... mmmm, ice cream. :)

point taken, but if you look at alot of war games/movies they just show awesome dudes fighting terrorists with awesome trickysh!t ninja skills and everyone ignores the fact they've just had to mutilate a person in order to survive

*UPDATE*
thanks to Raven for the intro to SpeedTree tutorial

sooooo Xmas is over and im getting kinda bored being snowed in lol. so i decided to explore SpeedTree and to try and deconstruct it abit more. I also tried tinkering with the light system in UDK abit more too and holy moley is it sweet lol

here are a few experimental trees. I was messing around with custom bark textures and the different forces to make real african trees. im not sure where exactly the game is set but when I do i will make trees found in that country. im hoping to find how to add the PhysX destruction thing. the trees in Gears 2 has destruction so i think UDK supports it

this is a little destructed rural village scene where i will experiment with some stuff

more coming soon, gonna tinker abit more today

still waiting on my damn student loan so i can buy the student version of Max :0( and finish off weapons/anims etc etc lol
