So I was just experimenting with softbody meshes (http://bit.ly/4jVECP) and I finally came to a final useful solution at the end of the post. The last video on the post is wobbling about because i'm poking it with the physics gun. I also posted the UPK for anyone who might be interested to play with the object in UDK. I'll be posting a full tutorial on how you can build your own softbody objects into your own characters. I'll post the update here when I'm done. :)

I'm glad to see you made something of a tutorial on this. I'll be looking through that package and trying to get it set up with a character tomorrow probably. Would you mind doing a quick write up of steps that need to be done in Maya/Max in order to get this working correctly?
(This is Geoff, by the way).

Thank you badkangaroo, I've been dazzled by attached soft bodies before and never got it to work. Seems I was too concentrated on getting results in the AnimSet previewer! I'm a bit annoyed now that it can only be seen properly in-game and not in the previewer.
But all rejoice, it does work in game and I'm greatful for this. Thanks for the files! Now I finally got one of the last mysteries in the editor solved for me. :D

Alrighty! the new softbody tutorial (http://bit.ly/ASwRO) is up! I managed to make a more interesting example this time. Of course, it's not that great a model, but what can you expect for 10 minutes of modeling... I wanted to get to the tutorial so i really just skimped on the modeling. Anyway take a look, hope you have fun!
