adding to Raven67854 awesome tutorials, I'm going to do more of the Special effects side of UDK. Blowing up objects, fire, smoke, water, explosions, etc.

Isn't possible to make some "semi-fixed" parts like in fracture?

When you shoot, it always fully destroy the fence, no matter where you shoot.

yes, in the Phat tool, there's a checkbox "fixed" that makes that portion of the model not break, like in fracture. I'm going to experiment in fracture today, see if I'm able to manipulate it in the physics tool.

This is an upcoming tutorial for shattering glass with explosion :)

By putting fixed they will not break.
With fracture they all break, but they only break where you shoot.

You can also put some kind of friction, like the logs are glued together.

I think what he is referring to is like at 3:00 in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-m4pe6UAS2M

Instead of blowing it all up in 1 hit, only the fracture part breaks off (unless its the one holding it all together ofcourse so nothing fly in the air).

Though, i dont use 3DSMax so :P

Hey Gizmosan. Really nice that you and so many other are taking to time for the community. You seem to have a bit deeper knowlage than the standard documentation posted on the UDK Wiki.

How about doing a tutorial on cinematic physics? Like the one in Gears of War when a helicopter crashes into a building?

Very nice tutorials Gizmosan, easy to follow and clear.

I have added these to the playlists on the UDKBase page on YouTube which is a collection of tutorials which others have uploaded which I think people will learn a lot from. The page is starting to get a fair amount of page hits already - 317 page hits in 4 days with 22 subscribers already. I have added you into my subscriptions so you will appear on the screen with all the others whos tutorials are listed.

Hope this is ok.

Thankyou

** Just looked and according to YouTube it is at #74 for the most subscribed page on YouTube this week and has a little medal in the profile section. :-)

Gizmosan, I'd like to see how you did the electricity effect for the resonator.

Thanx

That particle fire tutorial was great! Thank you!

I am fairly new to unreal and I can't seem to figure out how to make a light flicker with the fire. All I want to do is change the value of the brightness but I'm not sure how. I've read about projectors, and togglelights, dynamic lights, emitters yatta yatta, but I can't seem to find what I am looking for. If you or anyone could be of help that would be great.

Thanks!

Nevermind. I found someone's advice to use a toggleLight and matinee. I couldn't come up with the correct combination :(

Thanks guys :) Trying to come up with some unique tutorials for effects/cut scenes that use effects.

sure, I'll put up a tutorial for that after I finish the waterfall that someone requested.

currently working on: waterfall, water, splashes tutorial & Setting up bullet impacts into objects

just an added suggestion:
for the fire, i tend to create another particle / material that i use for heat haze.
if u make it larger, and move farther than ur other particles, u get a fairly realistic representation of a heatwave effect above / around ur flames
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/1970/firesu.jpg
http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/9171/firemat.jpg
this same material can be used as many times as u need the heat haze effect, in a variety of places.

Gizmosan

yeah heat distortion makes it look sweet! I was trying to keep the tutorial for everyone to learn, and then they can take it to the next level, as you did here :D

Fire needs a little more heat in the lower portion of the effect, unless your going for smoldering fire :)

Gizmosan, regarding your next tutorial related to water, it would be nice some buoyancy implementation, what do you think?

so I've started in and I'm just into the second part of the fire tutorial. And i get the error: "Some object assignments failed because if cross-package references."

this happens when i try to assign the cloud material to the required material emitter. Am I doing something wrong?

edit: Fixed it.. naming conventions get me everytime...

Gizmosan!
Do you know if there is some way to add colision to particles?
My editor crashes every time i try.

Piranhi

In cascade, right click on an emitter and add collision.

You should probably mention that this is all done in Max.

Most of us poor folks that are honest don't want to have to pirate Max, Maya, or XSI... would be nice if there was a Blender Actor X plugin, but I think Epic hates us Blender users (no support for ****).

What Gizmosan is doing is great! I figured I'd try and chip in and help him out when he's busy. If you have specific questions about an effect you are making you can either ask here or send me a PM and I'll try to give some advice.
