Does the UDK have the GROME or Is it going to be only for licensees?

GROME - Integration with Unreal 3 is available via Unreal Developer Network (accesible to Unreal 3 clients). (http://www.quadsoftware.com/index.php?m=section&sec=product&subsec=editor&target=editor_engines)

I just wonder If the stand alone version of GROME works with the UDK. I am tempted to purchase a GROME license. :)

You can always export heightmaps from Grome to UDK, regarding masks I'm unsure. I'm afraid you might need the Licensee plugin for that.

Would be sweet if they integrated it though.

Since grome support making multiple terrain blocks as you go, it would be quite handy for creating streaming world maps without all the hassle.

I asked about it on the grome forums and this was ALicu's responce.

Hi, unfortunately the Epic license don't allow us to release this to the public. Only the commercial clients of Unreal3 can have access to this. Plus, the exporters/importers for Unreal3 was developed by one of our partners, and it uses internal source code of Unreal3 engine (cannot be offered with full source code and I don't think it can function with the public UDK).

Masks works just fine, you just got to remember that UDK want the mask the same size as the height-map (eg. 257x257), and import them onto the terrain setup layer (after converting for UDK using G16ed or similar)...

edit: As the nice people over at Quad Software have released an alpha version of a UDK exporter for GROME 2, i made a new version of my tutorial. Version 1 of the tutorial is still available to those that havent updated to GROME 2 yet.

Hi Jo,

That is a wonderful tutorial. Lately we had been looking on UDK, too. We plan to make exporting to UDK a lot easier so at least some of the steps are done automatically (export to correct sizes and image formats). Of course without access to Unreal source code, some of the steps in UnrealED still needs to be done.

Some of our users are already interested in this:

We plan to add some integration tutorials on our site. If you want we can host your tutorials too. Just let me know. For the rest of your tutorials I am more than happy to provide you with any support you may need.

Regards,
Adrian

Great tutorial thanks very much. Really looking forward to the streaming tutorial. If these work out well i may be considering buying grome myself. Would be good if we had proper export/import integration though.

I agree, if they could work out a deal with Epic to make it more compatible with UDK... I would buy Grome in a second.

About half way down the page it says UDK Exporter coming soon! Sweet, this looks worthy of a license. Those terrains are gorgeous... and here I am laboring over a terrain in UDK for 3 days shaping it and painting it... lol.
