Hey guys!
Since 1 year ago, a friend and me want to be a mmorpg as Last Chaos or Lineage 2.
Both games have Unreal Engine 3 as engine... and his interface are very similar
I know that Unreal Engine its a engine for... Unreal Tournament style.. FPS...
Now, with UDK free, I downloaded the UDK.
last 2 days I'm reading all documentation.
I don't know how to transform UDK to get a mmorpg game...
but, I don't know, for example, how to start a new project.
How to edit code... How to compile...
Why Lineage and Last Chaos are equal, if both are to companies differents
some mod free?
can someone guide me?
thanks for all

Great! Normally people wanna be Astronauts or whatever, but a mmorpg is okay too :D
Sorry, but please give-up from that idea, for now.
Just try to do something simple, like a FPS and you will be good.

but I will not do that xD
I do not say you want to make a Lineage, but if I want to do a project with 2 players online that they find themselves in third person

why would you tell someone to give up on their idea? I really don't know how well the stock engine is suited to that sort of thing - it does look rather difficult. I do know you're going to need a ton of work to get something there.. but I'd love to know how it works.

And that is true, I don't want to make it.

The UDK just recently become beta, at now it would be best to get the art done, the level and everything else, with time new tutorials will come and you will be able to learn more.

UDK isn't a re-distribution of unreal engine 3?

lestat,
I'd say don't listen to Saishy and learn to do what it is you want to do.

With most projects you usually need one of two things.
a) Money
b) Knowledge
Some people have both, some people have just one and most have neither. To make an MMORPG requires vast amounts of either.
I would say the UDK by itself is not suitable for an MMORPG like World of Warcraft or Lineage. Unreal Engine based MMO games are usually modified versions of Unreal Engine which is not possible to do with the UDK.

ok, rewrite my question....
I want to do one poor map, with 2 poor players in third person online...
this is possible without money and a poor c++ developer?

Sure, there are plenty of UT3 mods that are third person.

Small scale RPGs (think Diablo) are entirely possible with UDK. You could get a 64 player servers playing too.
But for MMO games you need serious hacking to get the amount of players in there.
I'd say try it, even creating something as simple as a coop single map RPG is quite rewarding for a beginner. :)

Actually, mmorpgs are possible withouth hacking
Client -> Conect to Servers (Chat, settings, game)
So you can conect to "players" which are servers, and with a few connections (3 in that case) the server can pass the info of others clients connected to it.

Ok, so you are gonna teach him how to do a mmorpg with UDK?
As a member of community I need to offer the best advise, if he tries to do a mmorpg without any kind of knowledge he will just be frustrated and will possible give up.
I should known, I'm kind of expert in this D:

I dislike MMO worlds, they're built too big to accomodate the thousands of players, and the focus is on other players, not the world. The fourth wall is broken everytime your "loyal bowman" remarks "Gotta log out. Eat dinner."
A small 3rd person coop JRPG world is much more feasible, not to mention more appealing (smaller worlds to explore by you and your friends alone, which aids in immersion). It's easier to introduce new gameplay concepts because the world is more restricted and thus more controlled.

I prefer room-style mmos, they give you the felling of lots of players while still giving the dev lots of freedom for the gameplay.

you need to be far more specific in your questions, lestat.
Saishy, no, I don't know what he needs to know, he doesn't even know what he needs to know, since apparently he hasn't started asking any actual questions that will get him towards that goal yet. But that doesn't mean you need to be an ass to him.

I will awnser any questions if possible, but I will also make advises on my own.

I actually think this could be possible. I wouldn't use the unreal server but my own custom built server and tcplink. It would take some clever programming determining what to send back to the client in terms of updates etc, but I see absolutely no reason this couldn't be achieved with the UDK.
