In an attempt to make this UDK Community more of a "community" I thought why not have a thread were we introduce who we are and tell a little about ourselves. This is so we know a little more about the people we get help from.

Mainly by writing tools for unmoddable Unreal-based games, which made me understand the fileformats and the engine itself quite well. I program for a living and I enjoy it a lot.

Languages: C++, Delphi, ASM. (I'll probably add Unrealscript to that list soon too :))
Interest: Game Creation, Level Creation, Music Making, etc..
Website: N/A

Bio: Well my first experience with level creation came with UT's UnrealEd 2. I've spent a few years with the software, made a few maps and had loads of fun (and ugly moments when unrealed would crash :p). Eventually I lost interest, and the new UT series weren't all that interesting to me. But UDK has got my full interest now, there's alot of new stuff that I'm planning to learn. Needless to say things have changed between the release of UnrealEd 2 and UDK. My other experiences include programming in Delphi, C++ and Assembler. I'm also a hobbyist musician, I have some years of experience in that department as well. I guess I'm an "all-rounder" type of guy, I can never really focus on just one thing only, computer-related or not.

Name: Jeremiah Fulbright
Nick: Byte
Age: 31
Profession: Computer Tech by Day, Aspiring Programmer by Night
Interest: Computers, Games, Outdoors

Bio: Started modding in Duke Nukem 3d, also have modded Tribes 1/2 and did some small experimental stuff on UT. With UT2k3, I started working on the original idea of VCTF and had one of the first playable versions.

After spending some time with that, became Lead Scripter for Shattered Oasis mod and was responsible for UT2k4 port of same mod. Continued to learn more about it and stayed with it until the release of Tribes: Vengeance (which engine wise, was slaughtered by Irrational Games) and worked on modding it

Began developing Renegades mod on T:V until determining the engine was modded too much to make it useable for our purposes. We moved the game to Torque engine and have been working on it off and on, for the last 4 years.

Now, I'm here to UDK to revisit some of my original modding experiences and to either work on bringing Ascension to UDK, or to possibly join another team to do work on a game

Profession: Animation & Film, Audio Production
Relevant Skills: 3D modeling and animation, 2D Illustration & animation, Unreal Engine, Audio engineering, multi instrumentalist.
Website & Contact: See signature.

I discovered Unreal Tournament in 2000 as a hobby and learned the editor, learned to map and eventually became involved in modding, including as lead developer for Unreal Tournament Revolution. You may also come across my name as a contributor of other mods from time to time. Besides modding, I wanted to use my Unreal gameplay experience for something positive so I authored a series of instructional videos teaching UT3 skills. Since then I have created many UDK videos and have been developing my own documentation which will soon be available to the public. in 2012 I started http://unrealdb.com as a place where everyone can submit projects or documentation.

My long term work is a fiction series which includes a book version, an animated version and hopefully eventually a game. I am utilizing UDK to help achieve the latter 2. This project is the culmination of the experience I have garnered in nearly 15 years of creative work, exploration & research. It is no fly by night affair, conceived in 2004, and began a legitimate studio business around it in 2008. Production has been a long process of research, practice and developing new workflows.

Many of these I share in my videos as well as in the project WIP thread in my signature.

Interest: I invented some amazing games in the past and have more ideas
Website: http://www.allenvanwert.com
Bio: Invented RockBand/GuitarHero game when I was in high school and programmed a working version on my Amiga. (long before anyone came out with it in any other form in any way) My game was much better but of course commodore went under as did my hopes of a career. So I dedicated all of my time to music. The aforementioned games came out years later and made so much money I almost cry every time I see them in a store. Talked to some lawyers about it and they said I never got a patent back when I was young so there is nothing I can do. I recently put together a list of game ideas... some in extreme detail even outlining AI so I can work on them alone or with a team since I get quite busy with the music stuff. Did some hobby work as a programmer on 0AD and helping out some other games off and on with game design ideas.

I have an idea for a game completely outlined that I am 100% sure would be a top selling game of all time. I started working on it in Unity but got really upset about the engine not supporting what I needed to do.

I know all of the aspects of game making. My weak point is network stuff. I have done soundtrack work with Jesper Kyd for a game once as well so the music side of things would be covered for sure. I have gotten quite good at making very realistic textures... especially grass for some reason lol. I am big into realism in games and also choices. If you give the player realism and abundant choices it is no longer a game... it is them in some sort of awesome simulation where they can escape their life and really do as they please.

While I am at it and giving my story... If there are any people would would be interested in helping build a really amazing game that is new and exciting let me know and we can see about getting a team together to see my vision through. The game has nothing to do with music or guitar lol... in case you may have wondered. I have spent weeks nonstop perfecting small details to make things realistic in my work and I expect that same attention to detail in my team. It is amazing fun when I show friends some video of my work and they literally think it is a video taken from real life. Wish I had the time to do it all myself like in the old days but I am too busy so I am reaching out and figure working with a team could be even more fun!

Software: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Quark, CATIA, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MasterCAM, FeatureCAM
Interest: MMO development, Simpit development, QC Focus Testing
Website: http://www.f-84f.org
Bio: I'm a person with a mixed bag of tallents. I received my first degree in 1998 in Graphics Communication - New Media and went on to do the 9-5 cubical dweller thing working as a Production Artist and Graphic Designer in print media for around a decade. Most of my work centered around corporate identity, point of sale and product packaging design.

I more recently changed over to a focus on manufacturing and design engineering. I'm approaching my last semester in the spring (2010) of getting 2 Engineering degrees -- one in Manufacturing Engineering and the other in Composites Engineering. The change in focus is meant to have a two-fold effect, one -- to allow me to be more creative in a hands on way designing real-world objects instead of abstract things for print, and two -- to allow me to develop specialty racing and flight simulator hardware.

Between 2005 and 2009 I was one of the main forum moderators over at the video card manufcturer EVGA. This gave me several useful skills -- namely the ability to moderate a highly active forum community (often peaks during prime time with over 2500 on at once reading) and also the ability to troubleshoot computer hardware.

In the 90's helped administer MUSH and MUSE based online games. This lead to developing several projects under the WorldForge open source MMO community. What I failed to accomplish under WorldForge, I seek to revive under a different client-server system with whatever help I can find along the way. The collaboration I saw between MUSH/MUSE development and WorldForge would be impressive to see with proper SDK and tools available using a modern gaming system.

Since 2003 I've been under NDA with Mythic Entertainment as a part of thier focus tester pool on thier internal forums. This mostly just means that I give input to Mythic on balance issues and bug squashing. It's a step below being a Team Leader or Round Table Knight, and it allows me the ability to help them out on my terms.

My background in simpits is mostly related to flight simulation. I own a Republic F-84F fighter fuselage that I am building a flight simulator around. I also am very knowledgable in surround-screen gaming, as I have used several variations over the years. My current setup uses three Samsung 245BW for a resolution of 5040x1050. I also have a gaming room that is 13x13 foot that has a circular projection system set up in it using 3 Optoma EX525ST projectors. One of my goals is to bring the complexity and cost down on simpit builds so more casual players can enjoy the immersiveness of such setups.

Fluent Language: Spanish, English

Interest: Video games, Game programming, Programming in general, 3D graphics, Electronics, Computers, networking, History.
Bio: I am currently seeking a Computer and Information Science BA (I have about a year left). I started working as a freelance graphic/web designer to get some money to go to school but that did not last long so I decided to join the US Air Force. I wanted to do something with computers or electronics. I first started as a 3E0X1, Electrical Systems but I wasn't too satisfied with what I was doing (I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I wanted to do something related with computers, something that I enjoy doing very much) so I changed jobs to 3D1X2, Cyber Transport. Every free time I have to myself I delve into the world of game programming/general programming and now that Epic released UDK so I will shift my focus once again to dedicate it to the UDK. My ultimate dream is to land a job in the game industry making innovative games.
UDK Goals: To learn UDK inside out. Yes I know, a daunting task but it's going to be my one and only hobby. Thank you Epic!
Projects: To start, I would like to create a simple game to get a feel for/learn the basics of the UDK and then I will go from there.

I read every single profile entered in this thread and I have to say that there is a wealth of talent in this community forum. I look forward to learn from each other. I also hope to find someone to mentor me in the discipline of game programming/general programming.

BHawthorne, you got to show me how you built that sweet surround screen it's sick! also how you managed to put the F-84F fuselage in your backyard?

The projection info is here:
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16794

The fuselage info is here:
http://www.fighterops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8819

Basically, the fuselage was excessed from a museum inventory and sold to help generate income for the museum. It's been properly demiled, but the cockpit is intact as far as instruments and the inert ejection seat. Key load bearing parts of the fuselage have been cut, so it'll never fly again. Well, sure it'll fly, just via a pc simulation...*chuckle*

I've been into the Unreal Engine since I joined Project Stealth as a Lead Programmer 2-3 years ago and learned quite a lot. Mainly by writing tools for unmoddable Unreal-based games, which made me understand the fileformats and the engine itself quite well. I program for a living and I enjoy it a lot.

DOS was released in 1982, 27 years ago. Windows 95 was released in 1995, 14 years ago. If you are 20 now, and you started getting interested when you were 10, that would make it 1999, five years after the release of windows 95, and 17 years after DOS.

Pray do tell why you were programming in DOS and BASIC in 1999, when MFC was already available for 7 years...

Just wondering :)

Bio: Started programming in VB and C++ when I was 13. Dropped VB about 3 years after I started and kept on learning C++. I eventually got very bored with programming and switched to art maybe 5 years ago. I started with Blender and switched to Max once I got the fundamentals of modeling down. I've worked on a few mods, Tactical Assault (did an M700 for them and a few small props) then I switched to Warm Gun (HI PAUL!). Warm Gun def. taught me a lot, there is a lot of talent there (Paul is an awesome mapper). Now I'm out on my own working on a map for my portfolio :)

Software: Photoshop, Maya, learning Blender3D and UDK

Website: I have one, but not really worth showing on here. Doesn't really have to do with programming of any type.
Bio: Found out I love programming when I was in high school, though I feel my education in programming is lacking substantially. Came to Japan (Kansai Gaidai) to get away from the normal life, and because I love anime and the Japanese language. I was willing to go 25k+ in debt just to come here for a study abroad program, when I could have graduated with no College debt. That is how passionate I am with both anime and games. Met a guy who wants to create a game, and he introduced me to this software. Have yet to crack into it because of school, but am waiting the day. Been going to college for 1 year (in the states) and 1 semester here in Japan so far (going to be here for 2 semesters).

Hi, I'm Michael J Collins. I'm not used to forums or posting things, but I think it's good to network. I see everyone is introducing themselves. I just graduated college, bachelor's in game design this past August. I played with the UT3 engine alot. Made huge level for the contest but never finished because my computer kept crashing. So I made a computer and the UDK runs great. Ready to make game, but couldn't figure out how storyline would be set up so I based it off my Shulu and the "Spirit Cryslin" comic book. It took me a week to sketch and put the first issue together, then publish and copyright, but at least I have a template. I'm working on the game now and look forward to posting work so everyone can see it. Keep in contact folks. My website is http://michaeljcollinsdreamart.com Peace folks!! I would love feedback as to what type of game you would like for me to make so that you can play based off of my concept.

Hobbies: Carpentry, Metal Casting, Pyrotechnics, Bagpipin', Modifying things that shouldn't be modified, Demon's Souls (Best game ever).
Biography: I started fiddling around with Animations when I was 16 just as a hobby to subdue bordem, where some years later I ended up Co-Leading the "Unofficial Community Patch 2.11" for at the time what was a Mod for UT2k4 Killing Floor, which I like to think brought a lot of life back into the mod before it started making its way to become commercial.

After that the same gang I worked with for the KF Community decided to get together to try out our own mod for the newly announced UT3. That mod eventually became what was known as Black Sierra (http://www.moddb.com/mods/Black-Sierra). It was a lot of fun, unfortunetly hiring people to do work for you was impossible so through my entire BS career (only reason we chose Black Sierra, was the nickname) I spent learning modeling, texturing, mapping, and misc Editor/Engine stuff and now pretty much work a 2-Man team with my friend Corey (Kyben) to get things done.

Now here I am, hanging with you lot working on more game ideas to pass the time while I continue my college studies (Criminal Justice & Emerengy Medical Technician (EMT)). State Trooper is where I'll be heading.

Name: Henrik Ryosa
AKA: Bersy
Age: 34 (as of 2013 update, wow, this bio felt outdated)
