View Full Version : Importing UT3 assets in UDK?

Hey guys

Is there a way to export assets from UT3 editor to use in UDK? Let's say I would like to use a Mesh from UT3? I tried exporting or creating a copy, but it doesn't copy any of the dependencies (materials and whatnot), and then it fails importing in UDK (get a lot of error messages).

Maybe I'm missing something?

Note: It's not for any commercial use. I'm just playing around and wish I had more assets to use than the ones provided with UDK.

Thx
Leon

I'm having the same problem as well. Could this be an issue with the generic browser, they seem very different between UT3 and UDK from the tutorial videos Ive been watching and following.

Ive been trying to open packages form UT3 (the video tutorials use UT3 as there editor) and receive error messages regarding not being able to find textures and links to other materials and assets.

I was hoping to be able to use the materials from UT3 (Meshes, Materials, Weapons etc) in the UDK, and currently fried my brain trying to figure out how too. modifying information in the materials editor i cant seem to change anything, though i am probably doing it wrong.

Also there is reference in some of the video tutorials Ive watched that the assets in other maps might be able to used as well? (as in a downloaded map contains them)

As I currently understand it, you cannot use cooked packages. All the UT3 packages were cooked, so you can't use them.

edit: I just tried again, and it seemed that most of it was that the packages were referencing other packages that I wasn't trying to load. Just try to open the packages, btw, no need to "import" them.

Edit2: I just tried to open all the packages at once, and I didn't get much that wasn't already in the UDK. Sorry.

I tried to do this for same purpose, to have more meshes to play with.

Here is what i got so far:
Copy package over from UT3 to UDK, load into UDK it says its cooked, but open any mesh or texture or material and change anything inside then revert. After saving package you have it uncooked (or at least editor thinks that). For some reason most tools from browser will not work on such uncoked package, but you can copy assets to new package created by UDK. However there is one thing i cannot figure out, UDK is crashing when i try to open that newly created package.

Other way around this all is using DxRipper (google for it) on some ut3 maps then manually importing all that was ripped.

This intrigues me because there was a GoW to UT3 conversion packadge floating around I've got it installed on UT3 and i've been using it I wonder if it'd be possible to get that into the UDK. Very interesting results would soon show if we could.

Any chance you could link this GoW to UT3 conversion package?

I never knew about this, thanks for pointing it out McMonkeyBoy.

This is the link for the GoW content - http://www.treadster.com/gow/

I got GoW content into UDK but you have quite a few problems. They can be worked around but if you use just one asset from a package, you have to import all the assets from the package which soon adds to your file size.

the way ive done it, is following a link i think you left of GOW content for UT3, then imported that...seems to be working... but i have to make sure the folders are in the UDK folder i think
how did you get GOW content into UDK ?

be careful with this, I don't think you are allowed to use the resources from other games.
certainly not for commercial releases.

Queanbeyan a waste of time is the question since it's been made clear the assets from UT3 or any other game should NOT be moved into UDK cause it's not legal.

There is no patch for the editor but they have been regularly updating the editor once a month so far which to me is better than a patch :D If you want your answers I'd suggest not starting an insult war or the thread will be closed and you won't get any answers :P
