First of all, apologies to those of you having trouble installing the UDK.

To check the validity of the download, use the software here http://md5summer.org/ - this will create an md5 checksum on your local install to make sure it is correct.

The UDK installs several prerequisites required to run the editor... they can all be downloaded separately and installed individually. If you're having a problem with a specific redistributable, does the standalone installer for that component work? If it doesn't, does a reboot fix it? If it still doesn't install, does it tell you why not? If it does state the reason, please post here and we'll look into it (please include your OS, language, UAC on or off, and whether you are an admin in your machine specs).

It has been noted that pending Windows Updates and partially finished installs can stop the following installing; a reboot is always the first line of defence here.

It has also been noted that some virus checkers can break the install (especially AVG); try disabling that.

*Some folks are experiencing an error message asking for Windows XP service pack 3 when they are running Vista or Win7. The simplest solution is to run the installer an add -progressonly to the shortcut or command line. Another solution is here:

My head is bleeding, I've been trying to install this UDK and no success over 3 hours, I tried multiple sources and nothing!

I get this errors "UnSetup has stopped working"
sometimes on the decompression and sometimes on the binaries install, for example it showed up when I was at "Binaries\Win32\Lightmass".

I tired with UAC and with out it, nothing.

Edit I downloaded the Beta 2 from Epic Games servers and i got this error "VCRedist x86 failed to install"
Maybe I need to download it first, install and then run the UDK and it might work?

I have:

Windows Vista Home Premium
Service Pack 2
English
32 bit

Also the 1st beta worked after couple of tries, I have this annoying problem with 2nd Beta.

For the love of god please help me find a solution.

Thank you very much.

Several people have had success disabling their virus checker; especially AVG. Can you try that please?

I've had similar problems installing both betas on Vista 64.

Setting the processor affinity to use only one core worked for me.

Personally I fixed my installation issues, simply by uninstalling UT3. It seems that UT3 conflicts with UDK's installer.
I use a windows 7 - 64 bit system. After uninstalling UT3, UDK's installer worked just fine.

Basically the instal for the UDK crashes at random intervals. Sometimes it can crash right at the beginning and sometimes right at the end but it never completes the install.

I am trying to install it on an Acer Aspire 7730Z Laptop.

I am using Windows Vista on the machine.

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.0 Ghz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS

Disable antiVirus AND Run the exe as admin in Vista 64 (not sure if Win 7 has this feature or not)

then it installed without a hitch

Ok, I tried turning UAC off, re-installing UDK, and running it as admin.
it still isn't working. When I watch processes in task manager, a process called dllhost.exe is run and closed by itself

OK i found the reason for my problem. The joystick. I unplog it and everything is ok. I dont have access to any control setup in UDK game or editor so the problem was solve by unploging it. :)

I've been trying to download udk for a while now but I keep getting stuck at the Installing prerequisites AMD CPU drivers (XP only step) part of the download. After a little bit at this part a smaller box opens that says "waiting for prerequisite install to complete..." with the options to retry or cancel. I tried down loading the link in the op but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions Argawaen?

Try the December release; that has a non blocking redist install step. That should get you with a UDK install, and then you can just run Binaries\Windows\UE3Redist.exe

Well I downloaded MD5summer and i made an md5 for UDK.exe Dec beta and I ran the md5 and it made an md5 hash with a green icon, with numbers (4e5c7f8592137be2692e5edf180106d7)

The md5sum should be 6d134163c65586ff3f2fcf40a44d3c50 - so it is corrupt.

Hi, I've installed the latest UDK (Januray 2010) but I get the same problem like some users before. Both UDK Editor or Game crash on start: http://nftp2.republika.pl/otimjkaom.png. It would be better if there was any message about what's wrong.

Also experience a crash on start, but I don't get past the splash screen (nothing happens and the only status report is "Loading..."). :( What's the best way to troubleshoot crashes like this without being able to use a debugger? Things worked fine for a while before this started happening.

In my case I determined that it was somehow connected to my perforce workspace settings. If I checked things out again with the workspace set at it's defaults it worked fine.

Pretty frustrating. Is there some way to enable debug level logging or something? Just any kind of information to know what kind of issue could be affecting things.

For anyone who's having issues with this "A_Weapon_ShockRifle" Problem and the following UDK crash, it seems, that the Subversion Control triggers this error.

Open your cfg/UTEditorUserSettings.ini, find Section

[SourceControl]

And change Disabled back to true.
I found this behaviour when I tried using the svn feature, but since I always get this error, it seems to be not working on all systems I tested it out yet.

I just downloaded the new February Beta today, but when I try to run it, it gets just past the load screen and starts up... but halfway through loading the UI for UDK, my entire computer locks up, and the only way to resolve the freeze is to reboot my computer.

I've updated my video card drivers (currently running a gtx 295 video card), running as administrator, double-checking the compatibility mode, and installing it to a different hard drive.
The november beta still works fine.

Launch.log remains empty for the february version.

Iacen
02-14-2010, 04:28 AM
In my case I determined that it was somehow connected to my perforce workspace settings. If I checked things out again with the workspace set at it's defaults it worked fine.

Could you elaborate on this, please? To my knowledge, I haven't changed any settings, but I might be mistaken...

For anyone who's having issues with this "A_Weapon_ShockRifle" Problem and the following UDK crash, it seems, that the Subversion Control triggers this error.

Open your cfg/UTEditorUserSettings.ini, find Section

And change Disabled back to true.
I found this behaviour when I tried using the svn feature, but since I always get this error, it seems to be not working on all systems I tested it out yet.
I just checked, that section is already set to True.
I'm wondering what exactly causes the engine to stutter when it comes to that shockrifle...

Radon
02-14-2010, 06:56 AM
Well, my guess is, that the shock rifle package is the last local package to load before any other operation causing this crash. The package doesn't have to be the cause.

In my case like any other project member, we could fix it by disabling the version control.

Did you try to make a clean empty project without the sample content?
There are a few tutorials in this forum where you can find a tutorial on how to create an empty project from the scratch. If a package or some other file inside the sample content causes this, it could work?

I seem to have the same error as Dragn|0rd. (win 7 x64 complete lock up upon editor entry)

I can run the game mode, and speed tree, just not the editor.

I have also tried updating my video card drivers (9800Gx2), installing it as administrator, and double-checking the compatibility mode.

My problem differs because the November beta gets the same error.

Corrected
I installed the UDK to my second hard drive (not the main one that my OS is on) and it worked fine.

@forgetful

I'd originally tried installing it to my secondary hard drive, which is where my november version is. No luck there.

the Jan Beta editor actually ran on my piece of poo vista laptop, but my new pc, on windows 7 64-bit wont run it, alfter the load screen the borders of the editor and upper toolbars load then the rest is white and the computer is absolutely frozen until i cut the power

I can run the game mode, and speed tree, just not the editor.

I have also tried updating my video card drivers which i have double 1Gb 9800's in SLI and this did not help, i can run ut3 editor with no problem, im using an i7 processore and 6Gb of ram, im going to try an older beta but i doubt it will help

I'm curious why it won't work on the same hard drive as my operating system. I am running windows 7 x64 on a 250GB Western Digital Caviar Black. I installed the UDK to my second HDD - 1TB Wester Digital Caviar Black - and it worked fine.

I was getting the same type of lockup as you AlbinoWarrior.

I'm running a 9800Gx2 on a Intel Q9550 with 8GB RAM.

AlbinoWarrior
02-17-2010, 12:55 AM
well, i would have tried that but i dont have a second hard drive :P... i guess i will try putting it on a flash drive until i can pull one out of my bros computer...

no good, does the same thing when ran off a flash drive :(

is the hard drive that works a master or slave? or on a different cable?

AlbinoWarrior
02-17-2010, 04:40 PM
Didn't fix it for me :P using a second hard drive got the same error, its got to be an issue with the os. I'm confident Epic will have this fixed by the March release....

I'm getting some really strange behaviour from the editor again. I had posted earlier that the editor and only the editor was crashing while finalizing the UI. I installed the UDK to my secondary HDD and all seemed well.

This morning I grab my cup of joe and load up the UDK along with some video tuts and again, all is well.

After a couple hours I decide to take a shower and when I get back I play a round of Dungeon Defense before getting back into the UDK.

After my game I boot the UDK and again it freezes while finalizing the UI.

Its very confusing to me because the editor was running fine just hours before.

Could Dungeon Defense have something to do with the editor crashing?

Addition: Feb 20th

I booted the editor this morning and it made it past the UI, but then it crashed after the program has seemingly resolved. The culprit though seemed to be my Nvidia display driver as it stopped responding.

AlbinoWarrior
02-20-2010, 07:55 PM
aha, thanks to another thread i fixed it, UDK does not currently support more than one GPU very well, so since i was running the double 9800's in SLI i simply needed to go to the nividia control panel, set it to non-sli before running the editor, then change it back when im done using the editor.

Dragnl0rd
02-20-2010, 09:50 PM
Ah. If it's the 2 gpu thing that might make sense as to why I'm seing the issue as well, even without SLI. I'm running a NVidia GTX295... which means I have 2gpus... but no ability to just 'make one stop running'. Any other thoughts?

@albinoWarrior: what was the other thread you found?

Please send the error report - they are collected and organised by Microsoft, and then we analyse the results of most of the common crashes.

I'm afraid we don't have enough information to help you Hibame and Eimyzas, but if the issue you're seeing is common, it will show up in the Microsoft crash reports and we can address from there.

I've had the same problem with every single one of the beta versions. I download the installation file and when I try to start it, there's a loading screen and then it says "UnSetup has stopped working" I've tried to run it as admin, tried to disable my anti-virus program, turned my firewall off. I update all of my drives, I also tried it in safemode. So I ask you now, anybody who knows what the problem is?

The features are the following:

-Pentium dual Core 3Ghz (32 bits)
-2 GBytes RAM
-Windows XP, Media Center, SP3
-ATI Radeon 6000
-14.1 Gbytes of free HD

I prove to install diferent versions of UDK:

-UDKInstall-2009-11-BETA-2.exe
-UDKInstall-2010-02-BETA.exe
-UDKInstall-2010-03-Beta.exe

I try also to remove the IDE from my PC, and install all the
components separately before reinstall UDK:

-Microsoft Net framework 3.5
-MSChart.exe
-directx_mar2009_redist,exe
-vcredist_x86.exe

Hi again to everybody

Err... I fail before when describing my video card. It's not a ATI Radeon 6000 (i'd need a delorian because these graphics devices aren't coming to Spain till setember of 2010 :D), is a ATI Radeon X1600....

But this is SM3.0 Compatible, just as says the minimun requirements of UDK...

Well, I'll continue investigating... if anyone can lend me a list of graphics devices tested with UDK, i'll help me very much...

X1600 should be fine, so video probably isn't the problem there. There was a 6000 series Radeon back around 2001 or thereabouts .. unsure beyond that.

Hi guys!

Finally i solved my problems with UDK! :)

The first problem was a bad definition of one variable of the Windows
Register

Exactly this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\
Environment\windir

The cause was the UDK can't read all the URI related to the root
object's location, if the register variable is not defined as
expanded string (REG_EXPAND_SZ). (my "windir" variable had defined
as REG_SZ)

If you want more information, you 'll read the following url
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/104011/en-us/

After i had changed it, i launched again the UDK, and the ati3duag.dll
displayed me a "nice" BSOD(Blue screen of Death)

There are infinites causes which provoke this BSOD such as corrupt RAM,
fault of energy in the power supply, no actualization of windows critical
updates, bad installation or corruption of ATI drivers, etc.

In my situation, my RAM was OK (tested with memtest86x), i hadn't problems
with my power supply, and my windows XP is a SP3 with the last actualizati-
ons. So i desinstalled completely ATI drivers, rebooted the system,
installed the last version of ATI Catalyst (10.2), executed again UDK,...
and VUALA!, UDK works :)

(you can find more information at

)

I hope these triky ideas can help to everybody who passed the same
situation as me!

Bye!

Okay, I still have my problem with launching the UDK. It hangs when trying to load the Shockrifle-weapon file.
Nothing I've tried helps. Some tips I've received was "Starting with an empty template" and "restoring the system settings", neither advice I could use, as I have no idea how to do them. As far as I know, I haven't changed no system settings and I don't know how to start with an empty template.

What kind of information do you need to help me?

It would probably help if you told us what your graphics card is, but I'm pretty sure UDK keeps crashing because your computer isn't powerful enough. It could be something else behind the scenes of course.

hi guys the Tactical-Assault team came across a problem that we managed to find a workaround for. my server guy Rangarid believes you might find this information helpful.

today i found a strange error on our dedicated server: every time i tried to start udk server it crashed after the hardware survey. first i thought it was an ini issue somehow and copied the inis of my local machine to the server. somehow the server ran then.

but the next day it didnt anymore. so i did some heavy bug searching and found out, that you can fake the hardware survey if you took a date in the future. then it doesnt start hardware survey while starting the udk server.

to do so just edit [HardwareSurvey] in UDKEngine.ini.

I guess the hardware survey crashes, because it does not find any graphics card hardware since dedicated server dont have one.

can you help out on this please? maybe its just another missing driver or so. thx for your help in advance.

cheers

We also found that we could set this in the future to stop it happening.
Whilst its only a workaround, im personally worried about what we are bypassing, and if it could have any impact on our server.

Hope this also helps alot of you guys with problems too.

When installing in XP Sp3 the UDK March 2010 installer kept giving errors about vcredist 2008 ... still, it would run the game editor but the material editor and kistmet show only empty blankness (even if there is content in an opened material etc).

After installing with the vcredist errror, I went into C:/UDK/UDK-2010-04/Binaries/Windows/ and copied all of its contents straight out to C:
Then I ran the UE3Redist.exe from C:/ and it worked whereas when it autoran from the UDK installer it didn't work.

However, besides the fact that now there are no errors when installing, the material editor and kismet windows remain blank, dark grey and depressing.

- In the last version when loading under XP SP3 there was an error in displaying the kismet and material editor and cascade.

But I'm finding that creating lights will just crash us out of UDK.

I have a computer with one of those, and it can't even run Quake 3. (Quake 3 came out in 1999) I don't have any specific recommendations, but you can get a DirectX 11 capable card these days for $99, and much higher end cards for around $200. It's System.ArgumentException in System.Drawing from UnSetup.exe. We have never seen this, and we've tried extensively to repro.

From the description, it looks like it's trying to bring up the EULA screen (which is nothing special).

If you have time to experiment, could you try changing the locale? Date format? (these will probably make no difference, but when this issue has appeared on the forums, it seems to be more prevalent on non US systems).

Wish I could help, I'm having my own problems with this new June update, I basically get crc errors also. Tried using earlier releases but May was stored on my large storage drive and it also error ed after moving the installer to my C. Finally installed April with no problems so this still does not answer the question of why June won't. There must be a dependency problem with Junes build. I have tried everything, uninstalled my anti virus, used iE8 still same problem, firefox same problem. If the problem is not the installer then it must be at my host and I'm losing information on downloading a large file.
I don't have any problem with any other downloads so go figure !

I finally completed a good June upgrade after a week of intense trouble shooting. Seems all my problems stem from a faulty DVD and CD drives, it seems that windows xp will automatically set your C drive or hard drive back to a PIO mode of operation if it sees a certain number of crc errors, in my case it was other software I was attempting to install however the end result fell squarely upon UDK for june when I downloaded it. The symptoms are a very slow windows boot and desktop load and everything is all of a sudden slow!!, most notable if you try to listen to audio, it stutters so bad you can't use it.
The bad thing here is that your hardware device manager does not reflect that it is actually in PIO and continues to say automatic and USE DMA if available.
It will make you think you are in DMA mode on your c drive however you really aren't.

I found a script and good easy fix for this problem and it can do no harm even if this isn't your problem. Common sense should tell you that you are having crc errors with a DVD or CD drive installing other programs, the thing here that we fail to grasp is the fact that if your computer is in that PIO mode your cpu use goes to 100% and downloading or installing a program will cause crc errors for the c drive and you don't catch that or relate to that.
This is where a failed install for a large program such as UDK will happen and drive you completely insane. See the link and keep it because it is certainly useful, it cured my problems. One other thing I should mention, I purchase a DVD CD reader last evening to make sure I had no more of these external crc errors, you do the same if you know your DVD or CD drives are suspected.
Hope this helps someone......

Every time I open the Editor, be it from the frontend or from the editor itself, it pops up a message saying the application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).

Every thing else can open up just fine though. Any ideas?

hello - first post. I've been trying to install UDK for two weeks now and have it work. Once I got past the idiot issue that I was on a laptop without MS 3, and now am on a powerful tower, I am getting the framedny.dll issue. I followed the steps in the microsoft instructions to replace the file and change the path settings etc. All virus protection is uninstalled and the MS XP built in security is completely disabled.

I've tried running UDK Beta for june and july's release on a:
Dell XPS
intel pent. 4 3.6 GHz
2 Gb RAM
Radeon X800 GT w/ 128 Mb
HD has over 60 Gb free

any ideas?

Sorry all - got past this one. I can now have the full July beta installed without errors (there is an old framedyn.dll file out there that I was using)

Now, the app just dumps to send error log to MS when launching the game or the editor. Nothing in the log file under binaries/logs/unrealfrontend.

Any ideas?

I'm not one to curse, but the words are coming to mind......

I had to remove one of the video cards. I left the Radeon and pulled the geforce 8400gs. methinks that was the Polish approach. :/

thanks for the heads up. At least on my laptop the log showed that the pc was missing SM3.

Blade[UG]

you mean you pulled out the radeon, and left the geforce?

probably good anyway -- i remember reading something a while back about how you couldn't get a lot of the features of the nvidia driver to work if it detected an ati card.

You must use a pixel shader 3 graphic card or use may version of udk (last with PS2 support) and disable post process and lightmass.

I have radeon x850 :( .

Blade[UG]
07-23-2010, 02:48 AM
x850 runs beautifully, may and prior. It's one of the absolute fastest shader 2.0 cards out there. It's similar in performance to my "new" geforce 8600gts, although the gts does shader 3.0 .. and 4.0. and directx 10.0.

post process really doesn't make much of a difference, on or off, you get similar results with the x850 .. at least, as long as you're knocked down a step or two on the detail.

Hello everyone. I'm new here, this is my first post. After my first UDK classes, I downloaded the August client, released last August 13. I had no problem in downloading, but during the installation, I got an error message related to extracting files.

I downloaded it again, believing that the file could be corrupted. Previously I used one of the mirrors available on the downloads page of UDK webpage. The second time, the download was conducted directly from Epic Games.

I tried to install it again, and got the same error. I imagined that the problem was in my computer at home, although I have a new machine, very powerful, and it has a high configuration.

I brought all the installers for my office. The machine configuration is different, but I guess it can hold UDK. At home I have Windows Seven. At work I have Windows XP. In the office I had exactly the same error.

This is the message:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4115/4901575222_1ed04cfa94_o.jpg

Home PC Configuration:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate – 64 bits
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L
Processor: Intel Core 2 QUAD Q8300
Memory: 6 Gb Ram
Hard Disk: 1 TB
Video Graphic Card: NVidia 9800 GT – 1024 MB

Office PC Configuration:

OS: Windows XP – 32 bits
Motherboard: - Intel P35
Processor: Intel Core 2 QUAD Q6600
Memory: 4 Gb Ram
Hard Disk: 1 TB
Video Graphic Card: NVidia 8500 GT – 512 MB

Finally, yesterday I downloaded a version released before August 13. And to my surprise, I managed to install it. It´s curious that no one has reported any error regarding the version of 13th, but I guess I'm not the only one. I´ll work if possible using the july client. And I´ll wait the next update. But it is sad that I couldn´t install it. I'm frustrated ...

Any idea if I must do something? Or do I must wait till next update?

Hugs !!

Run the UDK installer, all the way through. If it does not complete, try to find the "UE3Redist.exe" file in the partially installed UDK folder, and run that.

Sorry if this is a redundant question, but I have UDK working quite well (after going through all the hours of <very good> tutorials) and am ready to commit to this software as my Pilot game engine to obtain funding.

Soooo, as I build out a machine to work with I'm currently working off a Dell XPS with an Nvidia GeForce 8400 card but it's a loaner. What do people think if I used this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814134090&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Video+Cards-_-ECS+(EliteGroup)-_-14134090 ?

I don't know if there will be a significant change between the 8400 at 512 Gb or a GT 220 with 1Gb when working with the UDK environment. Also, as a last question, is there a tutorial or doc on setting up swarm across mulitple computers? (my level takes 40 min. to process lighting - I'm guessing it's the light maps on running water)

Alright, Everything installs excepts for .net which I fixed. So I ran Ue3 Redist or whatever, apparently did just fine. But when I run UDK.exe it crashes and gives me this error 0xc0000135. And I've already re-installed, so no luck.

So all I can think of would be to download straight from epic, which I made the mistake of not doing the first time. Any thoughts before I do so?

Hi Everyone,

I am running the June release on Vista on a MacBookPro (boot camp). My min specs are fine. The editor runs just fine. I can load demo maps and play them in the PIE and with the play on PC button. However, when I run the UDK Game it crashes. I've looked through the forums and tried to do everything that fixes problems. Turn off UDP, re-install NET stuff, re-intall UDK several times, turn off anti virus, restart, etc. Seems like this is a problem with an easy solution that I might be overlooking.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
On a side note, the UDK is amazing.

I open the new install. It stays at loading screen, it does not freeze. If I take a look at my proccesses it says UnSetup has started to run (which is what the installed dumps to temp folder and runs), although it does not show up. Therefor, it is impossible for me to install. Without a solution.

Yeah, I'm tired of wasting my time downloading, it's the same ole song every month. There is nothing I haven't tried and even after 6 or 7 downloads it still errors out. I download very large files every day and have no problem, this is not related to my connection or my hardware. The sad part is I have the last release running fine and prior to that all the releases. Only when the July update came out did all these problems start. I hate to even open email and see an update link any longer. I'm going back to torque and Unity.

Ive tried installing every version of the UDK now and all but the november 2 one wont install. They all get to the end of the install then i get a windows pop-up saying 'UDK.exe has stopped working'. After letting windows check for solution it just says close program.

when i click on this it finished the install but whenever i try to run the editoror game it come up with the windows 'UDK.exe has stopped working'.

I have run through all the steps in the installation troubleshooting sticky none have which have helped. The annoying thing is up to last month ive never had any problems with UDK but after a reformat of my computer this has started happening (nothing else has stopped working on my computer)

does anyone know how i can get around/fix this?

Yes, Aug runs but it took over a week to finally get a good download that installed without crc errors, and I addressed that in an entry which I thought to be bad hardware on my end. I still cannot get a good error free download for September and I have lost count of how many attempts to download it, 3 just this evening and the hash never matches!

I have a P4 3.20, 2gigs, NVidia 9600GSO 1gig, DX9c, Net 3.5, Microsoft c++ 2010, there is around 100gig free drive space.

I'm completely out of things to try other than set up another machine to download with.
As I said before I tried without using my router using direct modem, still no change.
I've changed page file settings and no change, on and on. By the way I download direct to desktop and tried other made folders, even tried another drive and all give crc errors never the same one just variable. I no longer even try to run the installer but just check the hash.

I will use another good machine to download to and use the MD5 checker, I can't install on that machine because the memory level is not enough. Maybe this will tell once and for all if this machine I'm now using does have an issue .
If it does I'll update this post and look for a fix.

Edit:> I downloaded to another machine and hash checked all was good! I moved the installer to a usb stick and got a good install on this problem machine, however the start screen now stalls at loading...RefShaderCache-PC-D3D-SM3.upk... the cpu thottles to 100% and just seems to go to sleep, task manager says it is still running.
Now I go check my Aug copy and it loads and runs fine as I said before, I do not have the game UnReal installed since it is no longer needed. My cpu is a common 3.20 celeron so no to dual core settings. Any suggestions.

Try deleting the RefshaderCache, and let it rebuild it (that may take some time, a full rebuild on RefShaderCache SM3 on my GF8600 takes about 15 minutes) .. I'd say this definitely points to there something being very weird about this computer, though.

This Mother board is a budget ECS, one that is at least 5 years old. It was unique at the time in that it offered a combination of PATA and SATA to be used so you wouldn't need to buy new drives. Recently I had a rash of problems and I was a long time fixing it because I had memory stick issues then after fixing that those blue screens quit completely. One reason I feel I don't have memory issues is that this mother board and bios is so sensitive to memory issues it would flag it immediately, that's from experience already. The next issue is I thought I had a bad cd rom and after struggling with that finally found that the IDE cable secondary side was defective and could not see the slave drive or what ever was attached. So yes I think there is a very good possibility
there is something wrong here. Hopefully I can upgrade from newegg and drive a new barebones under it this winter. I have a very new unused dual core on an ASUS board that I don't use only because I don't have the required memory and that would be 80 dollars to max it out, but 80 would be better spent on a new 64 bit system and I'm really leaning that direction. When this machine has a fresh install and not bloated as it is now it is more than adequate to do my hobby stuff, however after it starts reaching a certain point it becomes a little sluggish and very hard to keep it running with decent speed. I'll try deleting that file after saving it. Most likely there is a memory issue, I defragged over night so we'll see
thanks for the help

I just finished installing a new 1TB Seagate drive, installed the Sept and it still hangs at RefShaderCache-PC-D3D_upk. Surely this thing has to work at some point, there's not much more I can do. My other drive did not pass a short or long test but it was usable, I figured if I tried loading any large software I would have the same issues as UDK. Like I said before Aug is working so all the dependency programs are installed and up to date.
Can't see how a new install of Sept would cause problems or the cloning of the old drive.
Any recommendations?

Hey guys, having some serious problems installing the latest distribution. Computer specs are as follows:

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium x64
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo (2.8GHz)
Vid: NVidia GeForce GTX260M
Mem: 4GB (+2GB Intel Robeson Flash Memory)

Immediately after installing the UDK I encounter the fatal error:

Application has failed to initialize with error (0xc0000135).

From my searches online, I've found that this is most frequently caused by the absence of an appropriate Microsoft .NET Framework though I have the following modules installed:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Multi-Targeting Pack
Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

To the best of my knowledge, these are all that is required to properly run the UDK and yet it still fails with the aforementioned error. I have tried uninstalling all of the .NET frameworks and the UDK, restarting the system and then re-installing while my anti-virus is disabled, making sure to run everything in administrator mode. I can think of no other way to fix this error. Can anybody think of a reason why the UDK may not be recognizing the presence of the .NET Framework?

EDIT: After uninstalling the September distribution and installing the August one, everything works perfectly. What were the major changes made in the new release that may have caused a break? I do require some of the new features in the September release but, should I even bother starting to develop with the August version or will there be problems carrying over to the updated version? Still would desperately like to be able to use the 09 distribution.

Hello,

Anything I can do?

updating my install issues... First off Moderators please excuse my past angst and semi rant. I have been fighting an issue deep within my machine for some time now. It has been one of those hard to nail faults and makes everything else look like the culprit. Let me say that the Sept release still did not run and hung at the shader loader, however my problem with crc and download errors has been due to a faulty RAM header slot, never gave any blue screens or errors other than just faulty downloads. Now I have one slot in use and everything is normal. I'll replace my board soon as George Washington gives his approval. I am finally at peace with myself and know it is not the downloads being the problem. I may be just a bit slower installing with one GB but still all in all things still run pretty smooth. Even my CS2 seems to run good although a bit slow.

Thanks for the advice and will there be a fix soon for the shader loader and core issues.

sn00ze,
had a feeling it was hardware issues, didn't think it would be something quite so sinister. I'm not familiar with the other things you ask about?

Grwar,

You shouldn't NEED to, but try it without it. The most common problems that I've seen that error come with using X-Fire overlays (Steam is similar, but I haven't heard of that error happening there), or something broken in the .NET installation .. if it works without Steam running, then the problem is there somewhere. Otherwise, try making sure your .NET stuff is all t he latest patch.

I experienced a very similar problem with the Sept 2010 UDK beta. Like FalseIdolitry, when I instead installed the August 2010 UDK Beta it ran without issue.

My error code was a little different but resulted in the same outcome. The Sep 2010 UDK would not run. The error on machine was:

Well many dll problems can happen with a successful instalation, the UDK might work. i would say reinstall it, and if that isn't working, redownload it from the webstibe, if you are just reinstalling it by running a setup from the website you downloaded it could be slighty corrupted. just try downloading from the websitre again and hope this works for you, good luck.

If you have .NEt installed, make sure you have the latest patches for all the versions you have. Also if you have X-Fire or Steam running with overlays on, try turning them off to see if that helps. And if you have any AntiVirus stuff running, turn off real-time checking on it.

I am too getting the The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click OK to terminate the application error message, however, not during installation. I managed to install the UDK just fine, but I receive the error message when I try to launch the editor.

I have tried multiple times to remove the .NET versions and re-install them (through windows update and UDK installer) I have also tried with AVG off, real-time checking off, etc.

my system (laptop)

Windows Vista Home Basic (64bit)
Intel Core Duo @ 2.80ghz each
4gb ram
NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M

I also had this problem on my other system which is very similar except that it has a Nvidia Geforce 9800gtx+ (PC) However, I managed to solve it by uninstalling the .NET and installing it through the UDK install. I have tried this on my laptop but it did not work :( any help appreciated.

I am also having one of the famous .DLL problems.

Here is the evidence:

Any ideas? =/

Hello, even if it looks like a joke, it isnt, i need, NEED to install the UDK on a pc, that doesnt cover the min Recs, i dont have all the specifications of the hardware, only know thats an Athlon 64 1 core, 1.5 gb of ram and a video card of 512( still dont know the model), i know that the machine literaly´s gonna melt, but the point is, that almost as the installation start, it trows a error with some dinamic library( i didnt write it or something, i needed to try installing it in a very little moment i have).
as a reference the machine has a freezer(not exactly known, maybe deepfreeze, but i can unlock it)
windows xp sp2, and i dont remember the antivirus.

please i really need help with it, the more solutions you can find, please!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok, de specs are athlon 64 3200+, 1.5 ram, radeon x700, and its avast antivirus, and xp service pack 1, i already know that the x700, only supports sm2, but i read, that still the editor works, about the error, its as soon as i click on the installer

Theoretically, if your video card is at least a GeForce 6600 or better, then that should work fine. You'll probably need to use the August 2010 or earlier version. If the video card is not up to snuff, you'll need to go back to May 2010. Single core 1.5ghz will be pretty slow, though, I'd suspect, even if it does have video hardware that is much more modern than it's processor. In any case, we'll need more specific information to help you.

thanks on advance blade, i already put the model of the video card, so i think they lied to me about it, jajajajaja, anyway, its not really the big deal that it works slow, its only to teach some people to use the UDK, create a team work, and all those things, so its only on learning purpose that we use this PC´s

Well, try August-10, if that doesn't work, try May-10. :)

1. A description of the issue
• I have attempted to load the editor over 30 times over the past day or so.
• I have tried running regularly and as admin.
• I have un/reinstalled the software 5+ times.
• I have un/reinstalled .net framework 3.5 software 3+ times.
• I have disabled my virus control.
• I have tried running \Binaries\Windows\UE3Redist.exe again.
• I have rebooted my system throughout the process.
• I have turned off the UAC on my system.
• I have adjusted my subversion controls as suggested by Radon.
• I have tried installing the software on my second hard drive.

I used UDK with no problems last year (via UDKInstall-2009-11-BETA-2) on this laptop. I have not used the software in 8-9 months. I recently found out that Blender 2.54 Beta has a built in AddOn that allows one to export working skeletal meshes & animations for UDK, and I wanted to test that functionality. I downloaded the latest version, but to no avail. In fact, I found that even my 2009 version will not work.

When I attempt to run the software, the loading screen will come up, the program will get to the point of {Loading file: A_Weapon_ShockRifle.upk}, and nothing will change from that point on. I waited over an hour just to proove to myself it wasn't going to happen.

Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate 6.0
Language: English
Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
BIOS: Default
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9000 @ 2.00 GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory: 8158 MB RAM
Page File: 322 MB Used, 12864 MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 10
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

4. My Log file (UDK-INSTALL-DIR\UTGame\Logs\Launch.log) is empty.

I have noticed a number of people that seem to have the same issue in this thread.

googlematt
OneginIII
Phobos001
Photex
Iacen
Radon
etc

Some of them seem to have resolved the issue, such as Radon. Others like Iacen have ventured thoroughly for such closure over several posts.

There are also numerous other threads throughout the web, none of those I found listing a comprehensive solution.

I think that if the problem is this common (and frustrating, for that matter) it warrants that attention of a senior member or two that can figure this out.

I am very interested in getting the software working again, and I was very impressed with the functionality provided when I had it before. I can't wait to see all of the improvements made over the past year, but there comes a point where there is just nothing else one can think of to try. I am at that point. Please, somebody, humble me with some simple foot in mouth "why didnt I think of that" fix to this malicious waste of my time.

Can you run the game, not the editor?

You're also the first person I've seen to have run into this problem recently, that is using a multi-core processor.

I've been trying to help people, but without a machine I can duplicate it on, i'm not much help. All of the problems that I had on my computers with versions in the past were all solved by turning off AVG, uninstalling all of the .NET stuff, running UE3Redist, and in one case, installing Sims 2. All fairly random collections of consumer level hardware, from single core Athlon XPs (which need to replace NVTT.DLL with one that is compiled to work with Athlon XPs), all the way up to whatever it is my girlfriend's new laptop has that reports 8 cores on it, from relatively ancient ATI and Nvidia hardware that can't even run current versions of the engine up to middle of the road stuff.

No I can't run the game either. I can run the SpeedTree 5.0 modeler/compiler and the frontend. If that gives you some insight to the problem let me know, I'm open to hunches...

I'm not completely against downloading Sims 2, but would I have to play? lol

Hi there,

I'm having *probably* the same problem as blueeyedjester.

UDK was working just fine on my machine (I've been using it regularly over the last month). No problems at all. Then my machine crashed while I was using udk. Now I can't load up any UDK versions. I am running both the January release and the October release, both of which worked fine! But now both of them crash at the same point when loading the A_Weapon_ShockRifle.upk.

This fact that all versions are broken when it was only one of the versions that was running at the time of the crash, I think prooves that it is something outside of UDK itself that has changed but what it could be I don't know!

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling all versions of .net framework.
The same for direct x, visual studio 2008 express and UDK itself.

My log file is below:
Help would be greatly appreciated & feel free to ask anything I may have missed. I seriously need this up and running to continue with my dissertation so would be very gratful for a solution!

Just after posting this I managed to open the editor. I did it by launching the editor and then when it froze on A_Weapon_ShockRifle.upk I launched the editor again and it loaded! I tried the same thing again and it didn't work and windows XP just threw me an error saying UDK quit unexpectedly. (Weird!) The thing thats so annoying about this problem is it seems that it's obviously a bug in the startup sequence because as I've just shown when the editor loads all is fine!

I would guess that from the crash, something got corrupted. Run the Windows System File Checker, you might also try running UE3Dist, somewhere in the UDK Binaries folder, and reinstall all the fun stuff that installs.

I'm still having the same problem as well....
VCRedist x64 just won't install for some weird reason, and I'm installing .net frame 4 right now.

uac is off, steam is turned off, and my anti virus as well.

Hello I think I have the same problem as JackalUK on the 13th page in this topic. It happens on loading (splash screen) of installation file. I already tried to reinstall/uninstall all net frameworks and vcredists and currently, I don't have any version of visual C++ or net framework on my computer and it doesn't make a difference. Same error. The report looks like this.

(I'm running Win7 x64)

Any help here? I've tried every single compatability option & admin, resetting and retrying, several download sources and several different editions of UDK and get the same error
every time

Try this.

AH! I realized after reading the whole topic that it's trying to run EULA and that EULA is bunch of text and the error has nothing to do with net.framework.. I tried this
Windows7Forums (http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-support/29984-windows-7-fonts-missing-2.html#post179737)
and Voila! It works! And as a bonus I no longer have weird fonts in my task manager.

Likely a bad download, try to download it again. If you're using real-time anti-virus scanning software, turn it off before downloading and don't turn it on again until you're done installing. If neither of those solves the problem.. hmm. well, we've had two people in these forums that had bad hardware, and didn't find out until this problem came up.

Hi there,
I'm hoping for a good answer. I installed the Nov 2010 cut of UDK -- I Unreal at work all of the time, but hadn't touched it at home for a while -- and tried to open the editor but received a crash with no displayed errors.
I've tried manually updating DirectX 9, updating graphics drivers, uninstalling a bunch of software, but still no go.
I was able to get the game to start without a problem. I've noticed that a few people have had similar problems but no solutions yet.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Alec

Solved! I'm not 100% sure which of the dozen things I did worked out.
I did 2 things tonight.

I reinstalled directx_Jun2010_redist.exe
AND
Went into NVIDIA Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Global Settings -> Restore button.

I'm not sure which of these did the job, but the editor now opens. I've since gone in and adjusted my Global Settings to include Ambient Occlusion and that seems to be fine.

If anyone needs to know my Global Settings, I can send them.

Good luck!

Alec

Go to your Add/Remove Programs list under your computer's control panel, find UDK in the list, and click the Uninstall/Remove button.

Then just download the version of UDK you want to use (if you haven't already) and reinstall it like you did the first time.

I have the same problem - I've downloaded from 3 different mirrors. So not exactly sure what else the problem could be.
