Are you an Admin or a limited user? What is your machines specs? Are you trying to run more than one install at a time?

Admin
Windows 7 Ult 64 Bit
AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8Ghz
2GB RAM in Dual Channel
148GB Total HDD, 40GB Free
ATI Radeon HD 3850
I am not running more than one install at a time, but I did change the compatibility options a few times to see if it would work, but they still fail.
As I was typing all this I've been running the install again, under XP SP3 compatibility, and it's gone through the full install now...
I feel like re-installing though, because I'd feel more comfortable knowing it's not in compatibility mode... and it never did delete any of the files it created when the install crashed, so IDK if that would cause any stability later on, would it? What should I do.

Do you have UAC on?

Yeah...do I need to switch it off?

Shouldn't need to - but it may work.
When you elevate, do you enter your own credentials, or a separate administrator?
Cheers

I'm not sure I understand your question - but I have the primary user account on my PC (which runs as admin).

When you log on to Windows, you type in a user name and password.
When UAC asks you to elevate, do you type in the same user name and password, or a separate admin account?
Cheers

I switched off UAC and it still didn't work. Are there any particular system updates I'm supposed to have before trying the install?

I'm having the very same problem.
OS - Windows Vista Business 32bit SP2
Memory - 2GB
CPU - AMD 64 X2 5000+ 2.60 Ghz
GPU - Nvidia 8600 GT
And I am the sole User/Admin of this PC and it isn't part of a network. UAC is turned Off at the moment, I originally tried the install with UAC On but it didn't work either.
I've tried 6 or 7 times with the UDK file downloaded from three different mirrors (Filefront, FileShack & Epic) and the very same error occurs every time. It simply fails to install every time!
Additional Info:
It seems that every attempt to install gets to a different install point to the previous one. Each time I get past the 4 prequesites and then it stalls on a different level of further installation each time! Sometimes it'll get to about 25% of install after the main prequesites... and sometimes it'll fail straight after the 4 prequesits! Basically, No two attempts result in a fail that is exactly the same as a previous one! One insatll attempt will always fail at a different level than a previous attempt!
Oh and... Just once I got the following error (in case it is of any use as info)
"The UDK package is corrupt, please redownload (Exception when opening zip)."
Please help with this problem if you can! Thanks in advance!

Nevermind... I finally got it to install! It seems that maybe my AVG Anti-Virus system tray monitor was interfering? All I did was open task manager and end the AVG Tray Process and then tried the install again as administrator... (Oh and, I left UAC active this time) The install went smoothly without any need for further retries.
I hope the info may help someone else! ;)

Did it work for you after ending the AVG tray monitor process or maybe disabling AVG completely? We might be on to something here! lol.

I ended AVGtray's process, but I'm still having this issue on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I will try disabling UAC.
EDIT: Nope, nothing worked.

I also have AVG and ended the program in the tray (double checked in the task manager as well) and the UDK install still ends half way through.

Hello, I have Panda Cloud Antivirus and once I switch AV off, the instalation runs OK. Yesterday, I cooked my new game (May 2010 beta UDK) and once I tried to install the game package, same error like durring instalation of May UDK 2010 poped up (same like mentioned in #1 post).
So basicaly, for some sort of AV's imho is impossible to install even the cooked/compiled game. I've did not run sort of tests with other AVs. Anyway - this is not good. If I want to spread my game and I tell to users "Oh when this error pops up, just disable your AV"... well they will not be happy.
Epic, coul'd you check this out? It's really not good to tell to users "pls kill your AV or you will not be able to install my game". Pls if you will have a bit of time, check this out, maybe until next release? :)
Please? :)
