Just made a test map in UDK and trying to host it, however the only options you get are host via LAN, so I used Hamachi to allow a my friend to connect to my LAN, but still neither of us can see the hosted game we created. Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to setup a multiplayer server.

I am also interested in hosting a test map. If you would like to collaborate, feel free to contact me (I have a dedicated server for test purposes).

Not a clue :)
I just downloaded the UDK only this past weekend (for the purpose of checking if it could be used in a server configuration).
I have built worlds before, and then hosted them on my server for others to connect to, and have written tutorials and the User Manual for Opensim for setting up the client/server system (I used Opensim to create the worlds), but that platform is rather long in the tooth right now, and I am looking for a more up-to-date alternative.
I am also one of the beta testers for the Blue Mars project, which is built on the CryEngine 2 platform, but which does NOT lend itself to a standalone in a client/server configuration.
It appears that some investigation of the UDK is needed to see if it can be used or adapted for MMOG/MMOSG purposes. One Senior Member said it was doable, but needed some work.
If you would like to pool resources/workload, I am up for it.

sounds good, im working on a project with a friend, to look at building a sandbox game using udk, but we need to work out first how to setup the multiplayer aspect of udk, before we can start any other work on the project. im able to host a test map from the comp and connect to it on my lan, although I havent tested this from another workstation on my lan. But it still puzzels me why I cant connect outside the network.

OK, I will get the UDK up and running, then I can have a look at your prob and see if we can find a solution.
If you can connect to it on your LAN then I should be able to help get external connections for you.
You may have seen my other thread, where some other useful advice has been given:

our projects are quite similar to what we're working on, I was just reading that post. Thats good news if it just involes needing a dedicated server. I've private messaged you my contact details so we can talk further about testing out the server.

I found this and it might help if you have not already gone through it.
