I have also sent an e-mail to SpeedTree support but you guys might be able to help me out faster.

I am using SpeedTree in UDK since a few days now but I upgraded from XP to Windows 7 (32bit) yesterday, now SpeedTree doesn't work anymore.
Before explaining my problem I want to make clear that my videocard drivers are fully updated and I've gone through a re-install and a restart without any effect.

When I start up SpeedTree I get this:

19:46:50 [WARNING] This SpeedTree Application is unexpectedly running in software rendering mode. There are several
19:46:50 [WARNING] possibilities as to why this is happening:
19:46:50 [WARNING]
19:46:50 [WARNING] 1. Remote Connection. This application may be running on another system and its output
19:46:50 [WARNING] piped to your screen. This neutralizes any video/3D hardware accleration your
19:46:50 [WARNING] system may have.
19:46:50 [WARNING] 2. Virtual Machine. The application may be running on a virtual machine which will also
19:46:50 [WARNING] neutralize any video/3D hardware accleration a non-virtual system may have.
19:46:50 [WARNING] 3. Inadequate Videocard. The videocard on this system may be very old or does
19:46:50 [WARNING] not support OpenGL acceleration.
19:46:50 [WARNING] 4. No Video Drivers. If no drivers are installed, Windows will not support OpenGL
19:46:50 [WARNING] hardware acceleration.
19:46:50 [WARNING]
19:46:50 [WARNING] Regardless of the reason, please note that running in this mode seriously degrades
19:46:50 [WARNING] performance (by a factor of 100 or more) of the tree windows.

1. Remote Connection
This is not the case, I'm using a single PC with a single monitor.

2. Virtual Machine
Also not the case

3. Inadequate Videocard
Most certainly not the case since I used the same PC the other day and the program was working fine, I have a GeForce 9800 GX2.

4. No Video Drivers
Checked the Nvidia website and Windows built-in driver search, my drivers are updated for sure.

None of the "several possibities" are true for me but still I get this error, ah well as long as the program works, right?
It doesn't, when I create a new file I get this:

19:49:52 [WARNING] The standard SpeedTree shaders have failed to load.
19:49:52 [WARNING]
19:49:52 [WARNING] Reason: Technique 'Branches' failed to validate
19:49:52 [WARNING]
19:49:52 [WARNING] There are several possible reasons for this:
19:49:52 [WARNING]
19:49:52 [WARNING] 1. Inadequate Videocard. The videocard on this system may not be
19:49:52 [WARNING] capable of running the shaders used by this application.
19:49:52 [WARNING] 2. Out of Date Drivers. The drivers for this videocard may need to
19:49:52 [WARNING] be updated to run the shaders.
19:49:52 [WARNING] 3. Modified Shaders. The shaders (located in the "Standard Shaders"
19:49:52 [WARNING] folder) may have been modified and have errors. Correct the
19:49:52 [WARNING] errors or reinstall the application to fix the problem.
19:49:52 [WARNING] 4. Corrupted Shaders. The shaders (located in the "Standard Shaders"
19:49:52 [WARNING] folder) may have been corrupted. Reinstall the application to
19:49:52 [WARNING] correct the problem.
19:49:52 [WARNING]
19:49:52 [WARNING] Regardless of the reason, please note that the following functionality will not
19:49:52 [WARNING] be available until the problem is corrected:
19:49:52 [WARNING]
19:49:52 [WARNING] 1. Wind
19:49:52 [WARNING] 2. Smooth LOD transitions (all LOD transitions will "pop").
19:49:52 [WARNING] 3. Advanced lighting (normal mapping, transmission, light scalars, etc.)

1. Inadequate Videocard / 2. Out of Date Drivers
Went over this already

3. Modified Shaders / 4. Corrupted Shaders
I can't imagine that after two re-installs and a restart this would still be true.

Well, software rendering mode, no wind, bad LOD and no advanced lighting I can live with. But again it doesn't stop here.
The reason I can't use the program at all is every time I try to do something (even just click on the main screen) I get this error:

19:49:52 [ERROR] OpenGL error [ongeldig item] in display system [New SpeedTree]
19:49:52 [ERROR] Unknown exception caught in [New SpeedTree.Draw( )]

(ongeldig item means invalid item in dutch)

I hope someone can help me out :(

Try manually downloading new drivers (don't rely on their search function) and installing them. That is usually the issue.
