Can we use speedtree models compiled by the SpeedTreeModeler freely in our game, or we have to pay SpeedTree for that?

I'm curious about this too. Is a SpeedTree license included with UDK? Is the licensing cost of SpeedTree included in the 25% royalty for UDK?

twoflyingpigs, you can use SpeedTree trees with the UDK (in accordance with the rest of the EULA).

Thanks, vogel! That's really a big plus to make our move to UDK.

In order to use Speedtree you would need to have a speedtree license first which is a huge problem depending on who you are. Normal people who would like to try to make a game using UDK prob. wouldn't be able to use speedtree unless they have a couple thousand dollars for the license. If your a Game dev company or have the money for the license then go ahead and use it.

You didnt understand ? its part of the 25% fee, you dont buy a license for speedtree, thats the beauty of it all, its build into UDK, and you can use it freely as part of it (thought it IS limited somewhat, its still just as good as if it wasnt limited).

How about for Non-commercial games where you don't pay anything for UDK? You can then use Speedtree free?

Ok.. wow... A moderator just posted and stated that you can use SpeedTree. Please... READ. You did read the EULA thing right? The thing 90% of users click next on?

Right here http://www.udk.com/eula.html I see nothing about speedtree. But oh well. I thought common sense would dictate that if something needs a 2,000+ dollar license to use then it wouldn't come with a SDK that can be used for free for non-commercial games. But hey I think a Admin would know more about what comes with it then I do so I will take his word. However if you could give me a link to the eula where I can see what the terms of use are for speedtree that would be great because like I said I can't find anything about speedtree at that link.

UE3 comes with support for SpeedTree. How could YOU ever remove it? You can't. Its part of the UDK.

Epic grants You, ... , a limited, personal, non-exclusive, worldwide, non-sublicensable, and non-transferable license to (a) install and use the UDK for the purpose of developing an unlimited number of applications; (b) develop derivative works of the UDK; (c) use derivative works of the UDK developed by You for the purpose of developing an unlimited number of applications; and (d) distribute the applications You develop using the UDK and derivative works of the UDK. This license is being provided to You free of charge.
According to this [License grant] section in the EULA, we can safely assume all the package comes with UDK is either part of UDK or part of UDK derivate works, and could be use to develop your game.
And vogel's answer confirmed that. So guys, enjoy Speedtree! :)
