Hey I had a question about working from Maya to UDK. Are there any plugins that i need for Maya 2008 to export the geo for the UDK editor use? Is there a workflow tut that I can reference?

Thanks so much!

When plugin is installed and loaded run;
axmesh - For exporting Static Meshes, based on what you have selected in scene
axmain - Skeletal meshes (characters), will export everything in scene
axoptions - settings for the plugin

If you're going to work with animations I'd recommend taking a look at my MEL script listed in my signature, it removes a lot unnecessary actions from your workflow.

Wow that was fast!

I think the animation will be on the lighter side no chars just BG anim. I want to get my head around a level before I begin to take on my difficult tasks.

Again thanks so much!

If you're going to make environmental type of animation I think you're better off using Unreal Cascade (particle effects) or Matinée to animate in-game objects. (f.ex. a windmill)

Good luck with whatever you're going to make. :)

Hey thanks! I still have a month (modeling wise) to go on this level. Would you have any specs (poly/texture wise) for a level that would work well within the UDK engine? The level i have in mind is going just going to be a roaming one, no enemies, just to show off an interior landscape. Sorry for all the questions I just want to make sure I'm working to an ideal to minimize wasted time.

Thanks again! :)

Unreal Engine 3 is quite a poly cruncher. It's very easy to turn down texture quality by reimporting textures as well.

I think there's a limit at 25.000 polygons per static mesh or something though when it comes to dynamic shadows. Stay under that and you should be fine. :)

The Maya 2010 plugin is a high priority for us for but unfortunately it's not ready yet. A future release of UDK will have support for Maya 2010.

That sounds like more than just an ActorX export plugin for Maya. Is there anything more to the support for Maya 2010 you are planning, and if so, with that be extended to Maya 2009 or before?
