View Full Version : Formation of new UDK based team

I'm presently putting feelers out for interest in forming a development team with the aim of producing a game aimed at the commercial market; and likely aimed at being marketed primarily via digital distribution. The core aim of the project is to provide a singleplayer game experience with good length, and production techniques are aimed squarely at an asset and programming low approach, with a rapid development turn-around. All compensation would be royalty based.
I'm presently interested in contact from programmers and 3d artists - unreal experience preferred, but not necessary. Interest in space combat and space opera, also optional.
Information available on request, to those who may be interested.
thanks!

I'm not sure that's legal with the UDK. Did you look into that, or do you mean buy a license?

i can do animations for weapons :)
but so far i only made stuff with the source engine using 3ds max should be the same
for ue3 heres some stuff from me:

It's perfectly legal within the constraints of the UDK. No licensing would require to be paid until the game is commercially released; whereupon royalty bearing seats would be acquired.
Edit: Hi G0rdon - I'm not interested in animators at present, but thanks for your interest.
Hey ambershee. I'm just picking up UE3, but I'm interested in joining you as a programmer. As you probably know, it's the thought process that matters for programming, and not knowledge with any individual language. This seems to be especially true in this case, since UnrealScript looks to be such a nanny language :)

Level designers? :)
Can't say i've done anything spacey though. Although i love space art :o

Hi Coma - feel free to contact me via e-mail (ambershee AT gmail.com) with some code samples that I may take a gander at. Working code that I can run, and games orientated code obviously a preference :)
Cr4zy - I'm not presently interested in level designers either; strictly 3d artists and programmers; but thanks greatly for your interest.
Do you have anything in mind? A specific request would be a great help :p
Hi Ambershee, I'm a technical artist at Allegorithmic and have been working with the UE3 for 3 years now. I was in charge for most of our level design, material creation and map building, and I participated in particles, effects creation, kismet scripting and optimization. (and of course I modeled and textured most of the assets before that!)
It's been a while since I didn't work on a personal project (last one was a total conversion for Quake 4).
Please send me a P.M. if you would like to talk about it :)

Hi again Coma,
Anything you have really - be it a windows application, a little bit of mod code, that sort of thing. Something of a reasonable complexity that shows off your ability to write reasonable code and solve potentially complex problems.
Heavily object orientated, or mathematically orientated code a big plus.
Jerc - whilst your skill set is certainly potentially very valuable, I'm presently only looking for programmers and 3d artists; this is a current restriction based on financial projections that I'm working on. If you have any expertise in programming or 3d art, then feel free to get in contact via email (ambershee AT gmail.com) also.

Hi ambershee,
I'm a 3d artist with experience in the industry (including Unreal), with 2 shipped titles and one on the way. I'm currently also pursuing my own UDK indie project, but i'm interested in your project and talking about it, if you are interested in telling me about it.

I'm gonna email you, this is a heads up ;)

I reckon you may be the kind of guy I'd like to hear from - I'm looking forwards to your e-mail :)

Are you talking about making an RTS? I'm not sure what's going on here. Need more info before I post anything else.

I have no idea what gave you the idea that I'm making an RTS. I'm referring to a space combat game, ala StarLancer.

Hi, may I join as a 3d-artist?
I'll give you more information about me and my experience later if you are interested.

Hi Regga,
If you're interested in potentially doing some 3d-art, send me off some information to my email address (ambershee AT gmail.com) and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Work samples also go a long way - particularily hard surface modelling, renders, wires and texturing.

I'm looking for another project right now, as a programmer. I have unreal script experience. I will send you the code for a completed and released UT3 mod. The Beast Within.

Just a personal tip; thread-jacking is not conducive to a succesful recruitment drive.

Ah, thank you for that tip. I was just trying to show those who post that we have interest in what they can do. :)

Hi
I recently graduated from university with a double major Bachelor of Computer Science with Distinction and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours).
I'm looking to get some experience and my foot in the door as they say. I'd like to do some programming work if possible. Should also mention I have no current industry experience.

Hi Sebastian,
Industry experience is by no means a prerequisite for the position; just good programming knowledge in curley brace (C or Java, as examples) programming languages. Games programming and Unreal experience is preferred however. If you'd like to send some code samples to my e-mail address (ambershee AT gmail.com), I'd certainly like to look over them. If you're unfamiliar with Unreal game programming, I'd also recommend taking a look at some Unreal Tournament 3 modding as an important primer and introduction to working with the game engine.

I'd like to hear more about this, Luke. I might be interested in taking on a project in my "free time". I'll shoot you an email just to touch base.

Hey ambershee -
My handle in the UT modding community is 'Maestro'; I'm the lead designer and UScript developer on the 'UETF Chronicles' modification for UT2004 (http://www.moddb.com/mods/uetf-chronicles).
In addition, I've worked as a developer on a couple other Unreal modding projects, including 'FEBA' for UT99 and 'Hollow Moon' for UT2004 (http://www.moddb.com/mods/hollow-moon).
I've been working for over 8 years with UnrealScript, with some limited experience coding in the Unreal 3 engine. I'm very interested in starting a commercial project with the UDK and I'm interested in hearing about what you have planned.
I'll be sending you an e-mail, but you can feel free to contact me via my moddb profile: http://www.moddb.com/members/iterator

Hi ambershee
I am a 2d and 3d artist. I have been making maps for UT3 since it came out and would like the chance to take part in a commercial project.
Since I already have experience creating space environments I am interested in your space combat game idea. If interested, send me a PM or contact me by mail: remuscb@yahoo.com. I would like to know further details about this project.

Hi guys,
Just to let you all know, I'm going to be closing for applications on the 14th, as I've already had a considerable number of responses - and I've of course got to pick through a considerable number of work samples as a result :)
It's perfectly legal within the constraints of the UDK. No licensing would require to be paid until the game is commercially released; whereupon royalty bearing seats would be acquired.
Just to clarify. As the UDK-licensing page is right now, there's no "per seat"-licensing for UDK for commercial releases. The per-seat license is for in-house, non-commercial productions.
Best best of luck on your project.

One final bump, I'm now in the process of finalising the team structure and drawing up a game plan. I'm looking for one talented audio engineer to join what should be a great team.
Thanks,
Luke
