First of all hello to the awesome community and to Epic Games =D .
Now on to my question, I have been developing my own engine in order to make a game similar to "Shadow Complex", in the visuals and side scroller aspects how ever, it would be over all an RTS i was just wondering, how much programming this would require, is the AI capable of side scroller combat and how did shadow complex make the game only work on a 2D plane similar to that of Whizzle, (the new release that came with the UDK). Lastly please don't think im new to game design and i am not wasting your time, I have much game design experience I'm simply new to the unreal engine and its capability, and would like to know weather or not im being realistic =D. Thanks for your time.

Why would you develop your own engine to do this, when you can use the engine Shadow Complex was actually made with? The point of the UDK is that you can get up and running quickly to develop the game idea you have in mind (and you can sell it too, that's the beauty of UDK), rather than first spending a lot of unnecessary time and energy making your own engine. Wouldn't you rather just use UDK?

I agree thats why Ive stop my development on the engine =D. I just want to know if what I want is realistic and if you didn't notice you didn't answer a single question I asked but also thanks for being so quick =D So what do you think the answer is...

Download the "creating whizzle" or whatever its called (its on the showcase page) pdf file. It includes a lot of code snippets and general methods they used to make whizzle. Including setting up the camera and constraining to certain axis.

Thats great man thanks =D I'll get to work on that. So what do you think about the possibility of an RTS, will that be to ambitious or, will it be one of the many things that the unreal engine is capable of =D.

I'm not much of a programmer, but I know basics. I think its possible, the only ambitious part will be getting the framework of the system up and running (camera, unit selections, building).
While I'm thinking of it, if you have a copy of UT3 you might want to download "The Haunted" one player plays as the demons, moves around in an rts view and can click to spawn different kinds of monsters. So although its a basic rts system it shows that its possible.
*edit* Here (http://udk.com/elements/downloads/Whizzle_Creation_Document_1_2.pdf) is the link to the pdf for anyone wondering
