As I was installing UDK, on step 2 of the installation process (Microsoft Direct X 9.0c) a pop-up states that: External component has thrown an exception. I have Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600), 2GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card, and well over 3GB of hard drive space. What exactly is the problem preventing me from downloading UDK?

Try rebooting - there could be a Windows Update or pending reboot stopping DX installing.

Hi, same problem here!
I even tried to install directx9.0c manually and it gave me no problems but still the same error!
I've downloaded it from downloads.com and i read it could be troublesome, so i'm now downloading from gamershell and see if it fixes the problem...

Did you ever get it to install correctly?
Have you tried any of these:
