Hey!

I would like to ask if there are currently any plans to fully integrate Gamespy or another online system into UDK in the future ?

Most UT3 mods are multiplayer games and right now LAN play seems the only thing that is properly supported. Having no online play at all would be a major drawback for the many UT3 mods that will most likely be ported over.

Edit: I think i found some intresting info about gamespy :)

It looks like Gamespy is piggy backing the UDK release news. The UDK doesn't contain any serverbrowser functionality (at the moment). You will have to roll your own. You can use the TcpLink class to do this.

Would be nice if Valve had a slightly neutered version of Steamworks available for this.

doesn't steamworks still require binding with the game?

I hope that it is somehow possible to use Steamworks. I would really like to add achievements.

I believe valve is in the process of flushing out Steamworks for UDK I can't imagine them not wanted to get on bored with this.

On the other hand, putting these tools out there does have the side effect of flooding said service with half finished, buggy, games. Valve would have to filter out the chaff, so steam doesn't become the next Iphone App Store.

I would think for most steamworks features Valve would still require a certain level of quality.

But if you could just get the server browser/steam community integration and nothing else, you would have matched and surpassed the garbage Gamespy gives you.

The probem ist that steamworks will bind you 100% to steam. Gamespy is a complete package that will allow you to use their serivices with other distribution platforms. And it is established on the PS3.

Gamespy is horrible.

Chances are if your game is average and uses Gamespy, people will avoid it. That's all I'm saying. It has no value added features and makes end users foot a ton of the work that systems like Steam take care of for you (like the ability to host a game locally). Just look at how Borderlands works. If that game was average, nobody would play it online at all.

Steam is the only solution worth using in my opinion.
