Hello guys!
Just to help the community to chat about UDK, I've created one channel on a IRC server.
Server: irc.xploitirc.com
Channel: #UDK
Lets build the community on it the help each other to use UDK.

Everyone is still free to use the old standby IRC channel: #unrealscript on irc.enterthegame.com
:)

Nooo..... we've been around for almost 10 years. We don't want that channel to become too active.

Humm good. Just keep in mind that discussions about only UnrealScript is not good enought for us. Have C++ code on it and everything related to content creation etc. Like elmuerte told... They dont want be excessive visited :)

Just did a google search to find this thread.
Is it in general agreement that the UDK home irc://irc.enterthegame.com/UnrealScript ?
The current topic is: http://udn.epicgames.com/Two/UnrealScriptOnETG (Read this or die!) | Don`t spam code use: http://unreal.pastebin.com/ | We ****ing mean it - don`t paste anything without getting approval first. | Show code in Pastebin or gtfo. | Mass Effect 2 is awesome!!! Shephard kills Dumbledore!!!'

And the current rules disallow any "off topic" chat. Quite hard to grow a community of developers around that. I would prefer to support the old school, but there might be alot of heritage and culture that will resist change and growth.

Hehe, Vito wrote those rules a few years ago when people often came into the channel in search for new team members, or to ask too generic questions because they didn't want to give away their actual ideas because people could be trying to steal them. The "no off-topic" part, well, nobody really minds as long as it doesn't get out of hand. The "no IRC script" rule goes for things like automatic greeting, away messages and stuff like that.
(You'd think the caption "Live People to Grouse With" would give away the general mood he was in back then. ;))
The key part of the entire page is: "Just ask your question, and be patient." - You will get help in #unrealscript, but you have to be patient. We don't sit in front of our monitors staring at out IRC clients, waiting for someone to ask for help. Occasionally someone will check whether there are new messages in the channel and possibly care to read. (One of the reasons why we don't like away scripts and excess off-topic chat - it marks the channel window as containing unread messages.)
We don't seek to "grow a community", and if you care enough you will stop by and idle in the channel until you either need help with something or you can offer advice to someone else. (And yes, even newbies can do that as seasoned coders often think very differently and might not be able to help the same way someone fresh can do.)

#unrealed on quakenet and ETG are both almost 10 years old and are visited by at least 70-80 people daily.

Plus all the "pros" are in those channels (same goes for #unrealscript on ETG), so you'll never get that much combined competence anywhere else.
