Windows 7 - fails on MSChart

The search menu did not show a topic like this created, so...

I seem to have a problem installing the Unreal Development Kit, as seen here:

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b152/ShadowFireMario/udk_failedinsall_mschart.png

It always fails on that spot.

Anyway, this bug report is not complete without:

Were you running the installer, running a game, or running the editor?: The Installer.
What exactly were you doing when you saw the problem?: Installing the UDK.
What were you trying to do? Install the UDK so I can play around with it.
What happened that was unexpected or stopped you from working/playing?
etc.: As seen in the picture above, MSChart failed to install.

OS Information and Specs:

OS: Microsoft Vista Home Premium Edition.
32/64 bit OS: 64 Bit.
RAM: 8 GB.
DirectX Version: 10.
Video Card: ATI Radeon 3650 HD

Is that enough information for you guys? I would really love to start making a game with this, but unfortunately I believe that MSChart is not compatible with 64-bit Operating Systems.

Same thing happened to me D:

The Charting Tools can be installed separately from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=130F7986-BF49-4FE5-9CA8-910AE6EA442C&displaylang=en

Does that install in Russian? If not, try setting your language to something else and trying again. If that installs correctly, try installing the UDK in a different language.

Cheers

John, thanks for the link.

It Still did not work at first in my instance. However i killed the windows installer service with the task manager and then it worked. Looks like i had some pending installs that prevented the installer from working properly.

Just wanted to say I have Windows 7 64 bit professional (english), and all parts of the UDK installed and works without any problems.

Thanks for the link, but still nothing. I dunno if everone has it, but on step 2/4
It gives an error, that it needs one of the following Microsoft .Net Framework versions, probably to install dx9??? But I have the .Net Framework 4.0 Beta (or something).

Each time I install MSChart it says to either search for an awnser in the internet or to close the program. :/

If I try to isntall .Net Framework 3.5 then it stops after unpacking, the installator won't do nothing. :/
P.S. I downloaded the russian MSChart by changing the end of the link, which you gave, from en to ru.

also getting this erro on windows xp 32bit sp2

i had to manual restore the registry from an old copy i had. which is probably what coursed my problem, i had to re install UDK and this error poped up during the install.

"MSCHART failed to install" or something along these lines.

hope this helps you guys, i would say a manual install should do the trick

If you had installed UDK before already, try to extract the exe and copy it to a submap of C:\UDK (or whereever you like it to be) and try to run the tools, should work w/o issues.

Why mschart doesn't install is beyond me, google doesn't reveal issues like that.

I'm getting this problem now on a brand new laptop, corei7, Nvidia 350Mobile, 4 gigs ram, win 7 x64.

Also on a 4gig amd tri-core, with NVidia 9500, running XP, but regarding the VS Redist.

update: VS Redist problem solved by shutting off AVG's Resident Alert thingee, no change on the laptop, though.

On the computer that is unable to install the MSChart, UDK is working fine but there is no audio -- the log reports: Failed to initialize XAudio2.

It can't be Windows 7, 'cause I was able to install it.

It can't be the RAM, 'cause it's the same as mine.

It can't be the card, 'cause I (almost) have the same.

right on, i'm pretty sure it's got to be some kind of software issue, as Win 7 x64 is working fine on my main computer. I don't even know if the MS Chart problem is even at all related .. what does the installer install after MS Chart ? If I can manually install the rest of the components after that, then I can find out .. just can't figure out why it can't initialize XAudio2, I'm not having any audio problems with anything else on it...

this will maybe sound like a ironic joke or something... but I really mean it that way.
Did you tried to start it as a administrator?

I want to sign creativecoding. I'm running windows 7 64bit too.
What about the possibility that MSChart is already installed because of something I can't know? Did you maybe tried to uninstall MSCharts at first(if that is possible) and try UDK installer afterwards.

Maybe the MSCharts folder is secured and you can't overwrite it. Dunno. :/

The MSCharts installer absolutely will not complete on the computer, either from the UE3Redist, or from Microsoft. The MS one complains that it doesn't have .NET 3.5 installed .. the only .NET installer that will work on the computer is the .NET 4.0 installer, nothing else will even run...

I'm guessing that MSCharts, however, is not the problem with XAudio2 not initializing, which is what I really care about fixing ... and yes, I ran as administrator. I also uninstalled AVG, and turned off UAC.

It seems that this .NET 3.5 stuff is not only restricted to UDK.
A program named TurboTax seems to have the same problem.

Sometimes people have to create a "Local Admin" account and install it with it. A usual "right-click Admin" didn't seem to work. So maybe you should try at first to create a "Administrator" Account on your PC and try to install it that way because with this you don't have to change registry entrys or download tools that we don't know.

Anyway where is a guy who actually have some fixing methods for it.
you may want to look into: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/ <-- search for: Monday, April 05, 2010 9:52 PM and in this article after:
"Verification error on non-English versions of Windows 7". seems to look like a good start.

http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2010/04/18/9998144.aspx <-- this link has also some stuff naming identification and so on.

and here the last thing.. a setup verification "tool":
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8999004.aspx

summed up: The problem could be that you have a broken registry entry or something in your system is causing a problem that the registry entry's for installing .NET 3.5 can't be found.

You may want to try these steps too:

1. Open Registry Editor (regedit in command prompt)
2. Navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
\Services\Eventlog\Security\ServiceModel 3.0.0.0
3. Right click ServiceModel 3.0.0.0 select Permissions
4. Click Advanced
5. Under Permissions tabs, Select Inherit from parent the permission
entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries
explicitly defined here.
6. Click Apply, Click OK, Click Ok and Close Registry Editor.

maybe this could help... but I should say:
I DID NOT TEST ANYTHING THAT IS ON THIS PAGES OR THE MINI-GUIDE. I JUST FOUND IT. USE IT ON YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY!

at least I have to say... where are hundreds of methods of achieving a install of .NET 3.5. I don't have this error.. but it seems that it's just something that happens. I know how depressing it is to want to use a program but can't because of some lame error that is not explainable. Hopefully I could help

heh, thanks for the pointers. As I said, I don't even care about hte Chart thing, I just want sound in the damn engine on this computer. It's far and away the fastest best machine I've got access to now, and no sound = sucktastic.
