Hi, I'm trying to use UDK with Visual Studio Express and I'm not sure how to activate the addon or if I even can.
Can some one help me out?

Are you talking about nFringe?

Have you followed the steps at the following page?

Basically you need to install the "Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Shell" if you're using Visual Studio Express.

Thanks.
Are there any methods to editing compiling other than using nFringe? It costs quite a bit for a commercial license and I would like to sell the things that I make.

Neither Visual Studio or nFringe is necessary to build a game with UDK, however they are both very useful tools.
Please read over the Configure, Compiling and Testing section of the UDK programming documentation (http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/DevelopmentKitProgramming.html) page. You can use whatever text editor you'd like along with some simple command prompt instructions to compile and test your game.

there is a lot of text editors out there , the good free one's are pspad and notepad ++ . I heard on different forum's that there the most rated free one's . to compile you can try codeblocks which is an ide , or some other free compiler . heres is a list of free compilers
