Any plans for Tutorials for starters?
Hallo
I’m asking myself if there are any plans for releasing starter tutorials. Something like build a small jump and run, or space shooter in 1 hour or so like xna has.
Covering all the steps to create a thirst small game starting by code, setting up custom characters/vehicles and items.

It's highly likely that we at Digital Confectioners may be doing tutorials such as these.
This would be great, maybe a DVD like the eat 3d guys?

3D Buzz did a ton of excellent videos for UE3 when it was originally released back in 07 with UT3.
Although the engine is now much different a large proportion of those videos will help you get the basics.

There are definitely plans in the works for new tutorials.
In the meantime you can check UDN to get started. There are some tutorials here (http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/Tutorials.html) and some video guides here. (http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/VideoTrainingModules.html)
Stay tuned, though, there's more to come!

I'm going to be developing a UDK-specific tutorial series throughout the coming weeks in order to help people quickly learn the amazing new features we have to work with now, so keep an eye out for that! I'll be posting them here on the forums for everyone to access.

I'd like to see a strong set of unrealscript/shader tuts... those seem to be rare.

How do you get a username/password for https://udn.epicgames.com/Three/SpeedTree ?
Its where you get access to information on importing and using speedtree models inside unreal according to help documentation
("For more info on using SpeedTrees within the UDK, please visit Epic Games' SpeedTree Wiki (registration and password required)"), but i got no clue how to get access to see it.
I know how to do most with it, but i got issues using the atlas textures, and with no documentation, its quite frustrating :)

That part of the UDN, is for licensees only, I'm afraid.

I would do some audio tutorials if they are requested. I would also love to see some audio tutorials as well.
Great job Epic! :D

I too would love to see a very basic tutorial that's not based around a first-person-shooter as suggested by R2D5.
My first shooter is a great one. The Whizzle PDF (http://udk.com/elements/downloads/Whizzle_Creation_Document_1_2.pdf) is VERY helpful getting to grips with creating a game but it's lacking in the most basic area: Setting up your first game from scratch: What to do with all the files, how to approach the file structure, stuff to set up in ini files, etc. How does somebody start with an empty slate? Should people start with an empty slate?

Agreed, 100%. The initial step is always the main hurdle, once you're past that looking up extra information or working things out is generally pretty simple.
I posted a question about project setup and how to approach version control etc... earlier today, located here:

Feel free to reply with any relevant questions, it might help if they're all in one place :)

if you are interested I made a water shader tutorial a while ago for UE3. its pretty descriptive not just a plug this here and that there tutorial. i put reasons for everything so you really learn about the shader editor. Even though its water, you can use it as a guide for what ever you want to do.

I totally agree, this would be the most valuable of all tutorials.

A topic with this was already posted, and locked by moderators, for a good reason.
Please read the forum rules :).

Why would they lock it. The above explains in detail what the UDK engine offers, there are lot of people who dont understand games engines and cannot compare. I believe people have a right to know and share their opinion.

Rules - http://forums.epicgames.com/announcement.php?f=16&a=1
[03] Keep discussions on topic! Please refrain from discussions not pertaining to our games or company. There are plenty of other places in the vast Internet to discuss your political or social views.
This includes Unreal vs XYZ Game discussions.
Reason is, i think, discussing engine vs engine is a waste of time, if you can use the engine, you use it, doesnt matter what people think about it, and it will just fill up the forum with UDK vs .. posts.
Man, i should have been a mod here :P, this like 3rd time i had to remind people of the rules, does noone actually read them ? :P
Why would they lock it. The above explains in detail what the UDK engine offers..
No, its pure ranting, and it has nothing to do with comparing, and, its also against the rules (for a reason).
I believe people have a right to know and share their opinion.
Belive what you want, when its against the rules its not okay, and im sorry to be the boogieman, but you can discuss that other place, and not in someone else's "Any plans for Tutorials for starters?" post, thats atleast my belief :)

On this forum Me, Hources and a few others have been finding out how to do things and creating tutorials for others. I’m currently working on a few and I’m sure the others are as well. I'm trying to make my tutorials based on UnrealScripting mostly rather than doing things with the editor but its taking me some time to learn it all so please bare with me.
