I just downloaded this and it crashed during install. Installed again and it worked. I spent about 30 seconds looking at the Content Browser before it froze up my computer and I had to reboot.

My PC easily fits the system requirements too:
Vista Ultimate x64, Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz, GeForce 8800 GTS, 6GB RAM

Are you receiving any crash reports? If nothing pops up on screen, try pressing ctrl+v in notepad and see if something comes up.

It was completely frozen, I couldn't move my mouse or anything. All I could do was reboot. I have a list of everything that was recently on my clipboard. Nothing I didn't already know about.

Hmmmm. Could you try windowed mode in the game and see whether ALT-TAB works? If it's the Editor, does ALT-TAB work? IF no, could you try upgrading gfx drivers?

Do you see anything in your UTGame\Logs\Launch.log file?

Alt+Tab seems to work fine. I'll check graphics drivers but I normally keep them very up to date.

Well I just loaded the Sanctuary level and ran around shooting things, so that seems like it works.

The editor didn't work at all for me until I had run the game at least once. Does the editor work better now?

It seems better, maybe I just needed a reboot. and the editor had a funny way of telling me. lol
