I`d like to open or import some of my UT3 maps into the new engine.
Its made out of custom textures and custom models.
Is there a way to import all the BSP and Staticmeshes?
Or do i have to import all textures and models, redo all the materials and replace the staticmeshes all over the level?

I'd asusme you won't be able to open your maps directly, however, there is another trick you can try. Reimport all your custom meshes and textures into new packages in UDK, and ensure they have the same path names within those packages. You can then select all your brushes and meshes in UT3's editor, and export as T3D. Try importing that T3D into a new UDK map.

Have you tried opening the map in the UDK editor? Before over complicating things try to just open the map. You will have to rebuild the lighting if it does work.

thank you ambershee,
it worked the way you said.
And no, you cant open ut3 maps. The mapfiles in this engineversion have another fileending.

You might want to try rename the file extension of maps made with UT3 to .udk and see whether that works. I haven't tried this myself, but I believe you can open maps from UT3 this way. There might be subtle issues if it works, but it's probably easier than redoing from scratch.

Changing the file extension shouldn't be necessary. You should be able to just change from "Map Files (*.udk)" to "All Files (*.*)" in the open file dialog.

I tested it, and you can open *.ut3 files if you select "All Files" from the open window. The only catch I can tell is that a lot of the UT3-specific actors won't come along for the ride as well as any assets that aren't available. A map with all custom assets (that are part of the map package) seem to have no trouble making it in.

I've had no luck with this. I think that Epic should try to make it work, though.

Worked for me. UDK will open ut3 map files. (Also had "trouble" before realizing I needed to change *.udk to All Files.)
I had a UT3 skydome in the map (all other meshes my own), and no, it did not import properly. Need to make my own anyway ...

They open ok, however no custom content in the map seems to be unsure to open or not.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but have any new discoveries been made? I'm also trying to import a UT3 map into UDK and I can open the ut3 file but none of my custom content's textures load, even if I open it in the content browser before opening my level. I get tons of errors and I'm trying to figure out a solution but if anyone's been there before, please share your experience!

I found that I got this error, when I copy/pasted content from another map. Easiest way I found to fix it was to save the "copied from" map as a different name, and delete the original. Then the package saves as normal.
