this has been a problem since released......I am wondering if this bug is ever going to be fixed?

I've used just about every gaming laptop on the market from 8700 gt cards, to 9800GT ect. No matter what settings I have tried, somewhere in sand........the sound goes out, the frames drop until basically i can't move and the frame is stuck. Then I have to logout and rejoin, if I want to continue playing that map. To make it even worse, there is no guarantee that it won't happen again after I rejoin

I am just wondering if anyone else is tired of this bug?

I have never, ever had that bug in all the times I've played Sandstorm.

I have a friend who is experiencing this bug (well.. his sound drops out...) It is driving him nuts! What sound card are you using? If onboard, look it up and figure out what kind it is. I think my friend uses onboard. I'll get his hardware info and you we can compare notes.

I wonder if the particle effect of the Sandstorm is bringing your laptops to their knees... UT3 is a VERY demanding game and even on my quad core with an HD 3300 it's barely getting decent framerates at the lowest settings. Upgrading to an HD 4850 soon hopefully ^_^.

I get this problem too! Intermittent audio failure, and a possibly associated system slowdown. It also isn't too uncommon for my system to crash upon the following map change. My audio codec is ALC889A, and my driver version is rtkvhd64, version 6.0.1.5717, Direct X 10.0. I have audio on my HDMI port on my 4850 but I don't use that. I'm on Windows Vista 64-bit.

K, so you're using onboard I assume? What is the audio hardware? One way to find out is to go to Start>Run>Type "dxdiag">Go to Sound tab and read what's next to "Name:"

Ohh.. Sorry. It's just Realtek HD Audio Device as the name, and it is onboard.

Hah! Ding ding ding! My buddy uses Realtek HD Audio as well. I told him time to get an X-Fi :P (Finally convinced him to get an anodized aluminum mousepad and gaming mouse after years of playing with crap. The guy is good... Dunno why he's playing with garbage hardware!)

Anyway, it looks like Realtek isn't compatible with UT3 unfortunately.

C'mon... you know you want to... (Beware of any X-Fi cheaper than that... Some of them are marketed as X-Fi but don't actually have the X-Fi chip on them. Read reviews before you buy!)

I'm guessing UT3 just hates onboard sound. MTV, not sure if your problems are related to general system slowness or the onboard sound alone, but I'd be willing to bet that if you got a soundcard for your laptop it'd help the problem.

I always thought that the Sandstorm sound bug afflicted most people when an un-piloted Fury explodes? Is this true?

When I first got the game, I had this problem all the time. It was frustrating: sound drops, game slows to a chug, freezes, and often crashes.

My solution? I disabled the sandstorm. Didn't have a problem for months...

...until patch 2, which forces the sandstorm, and thus forces my game to crash again. Yay.

I'm probably not going to buy a sound card to fix this. I have been considering purchasing a card but it seems that they are becoming to expensive to justify their value with the quality of onboard saying being what it is. I will try updating my audio drivers, Realtek last updated them a week ago. My current drivers are from 2008. Yikes! I thought I updated them in April.

It is disappointing that one of the most popular onboard audio chipsets isn't supported by UT3. I don't have sound problems with the rest of the game, so I guess it isn't too big a deal.

I use Realtek HD Audio as well, I get the bug sometimes, but not alot. Maybe 1/20 times. My sound also cuts out when a scavenger is blown up near me, it makes a sizzling sound then cuts out for 2 seconds.

I'm on Realtek HD here too, I'll need to try Sandstorm to see if I get it...
