Highway

Take the fight deep into the Locust Hollow in the complex passages of this underground highway system. Stick together, separate the enemy, and have an exit strategy ready, or it’ll be a one-way trip.

Way Station

In the limbo between death and “processing,” you'll find Locust way stations like this one, filled with COG soldiers. Tread lightly and practice patience—it’s best to sacrifice firepower for stealth while navigating this minefield of hidden grenades.

Set in the middle of the desert, Nowhere is exactly how it sounds: barren and devoid of life. The open air and long lines of sight prove useful for Longshot devotees, but expect some fierce, close combat in the stairwell.

'Road to Ruin' Deleted Campaign Chapter

Interview with Rod from IGN:
IGN: Where in the story does Road to Ruin fit? What questions will it answer?

Rod Fergusson: "Road to Ruin" takes place immediately following the death of Maria. We initially intended to give players the choice to don the Theron armor and sneak around the Locust Hollow, or go in guns blazing. But for pacing reasons, we ended up cutting that chapter last summer. It didn't feel quite right for the flow we were going after, and since so much of the game was taking place below ground already, we decided to focus on the other chapters. That said, there's some great gameplay moments in there, and even an old friend to find along the way. We really hope that fans enjoy returning to the campaign, getting a look behind the curtains and seeing what might have been.

IGN: About how long will it take players to complete Road to Ruin?

Rod Fergusson: As with all campaign content, the time it takes to complete it will vary based upon the difficulty setting and the player's skill. We're not going to put an hour/minute designation on "Road to Ruin" but it's on par with other campaign chapters. Also, with two totally different ways to approach the content (both playable in co-op) it should have some great replay value, especially if you want the three Achievements for completing it.

IGN: How will the new stealth mechanics work for the campaign mission?

IGN's preview from E3:
Like in other parts of Gears of War 2, you can choose one of two paths at the beginning of the Road to Ruin chapter. If you choose the option to go in guns blazing, the gameplay proceeds as normal. Marcus and Dom move forward through what appears to be a bridge section flanked by flaming columns and must clear out a number of Locust enemies before reaching a large door. In the middle of the bridge section is a troika gun emplacement, which you can use to help clear out more of the stage.

The more interesting bit of the stage is when you choose the stealth route, something that seems odd simply because being stealthy isn't something you'd really associate with Marcus and crew. Going this route brings you through the same sections, but Marcus and Dom are dressed up in Theron armor, including a helmet, to conceal their identities. The ensuing gameplay requires the two to weave through patrolling Locust guards without getting too close. If you enter within a certain proximity of the enemy they'll catch on to your scent and start sniffing around, eventually blowing your cover.

Should you get caught either that way or by accidentally firing your weapon the stage doesn't end, though. Instead, a fight will just start up between you and all the enemies in the bridge section. You'll likely be surrounded too considering you're wading through enemy ranks, meaning it'll be a tough battle if you want to survive. If you do manage to wipe out all the opposition in that particular bridge section it'll remain clear as you go up to the next large door. By pulling a lever and opening the way to the next section, the stealth mechanic will reset, as Marcus and Dom will put back on their helmets and you'll try and sneak through the next section. If you're able to move all the way through without getting spotted, then you'll be rewarded with one of the new achievements. All Fronts DLC

All Fronts consists of the 5 Flashback maps, the 3 Combustible Maps, the 4 Snowblind maps, the 7 new Dark Corners maps (Thats 19 maps!), and the 'Road to Ruin' deleted campaign chapter described above, it will be released on the 28th of July at 10:00AM GMT, and will cost 1600 MS Points.

Yeah he has a point. But a lot of companies do crap like this. Bundling things and then being cheaper, while those that bought it at the beginning get screwed. It's hard to get mad a marketing tactic used by a lot of different companies. I would buy the entire thing just because it's the same price. Give it away to someone or something.

Epic has been pretty good with post-release support thus far, but they are about to kick things into overdrive. On July 28th, we'll be getting the "All Fronts Collection" for Gears of War 2. The collection will include every multiplayer map released thus far (Flashback, Combustible, and Snowblind) along with seven (!) new maps in the "Dark Corners" pack.

"Dark Corners" will also sport a "deleted scene from the game's campaign that takes you deep into the bowels of the Locust hollow." This segment, called "Road to Ruin" will also introduce a new stealth element, giving the player the option to get their Solid Snake on with Marcus Fenix. Or, you can just go in guns blazing.

The "All Fronts Collection" is the retail back that will run you $19.99. If you already own all the map packs, you can download the "Dark Corners" pack on the same day, which includes the seven multiplayer maps and singleplayer scene, for 1,600 MS Points ($20).

The retail package will sport a few bonuses if you were worried about the equal pricing for the box including everything and the download of just the new content. Retail buyers will grab a video commentary from Cliff Bleszinski, a custom Xbox 360 dashboard theme, a fold-out poster, and a strategy guide.

For those just interested in the maps and content, if you haven't been getting the map packs, this is an amazing deal. If you even missed getting a single map pack, this saves you money. It is two different offerings. There is "Dark Corners" that has just the 7 new maps and the new campaign chapter. Then there's the offer at retail called "All Fronts Collection" which has all 19 maps and the sp chapter. No one has to buy something they already have to play the new stuff...

Ok first, let's talk about the price of Dark Corners. In the past, like other games, we've charged 800 points for 3-4 multiplayer maps. This time we are doubling that to 7 maps and including a new single player chapter (a deleted scene if you will) for the price of 1600 points. As a one to one comparison that seems fair.

Now let's talk about All Fronts. Yes at $19.99 it has some value over the 3600 points you would have to pay online to buy the same content and there's nothing stopping you from getting the content that way. In order to get people off the couch and into the stores you need to provide a value add and it's not just a poster. And remember that even though this was announced today, it's not being offered till the end of July. That means you'll have had 4 months of playing Snowblind before All Fronts even shows up in stores.

I'm sorry for the confusion, I knew there would be some when you announce new content and a compilation at the same time. But for reasons that will become clear soon, we had to announce earlier instead of waiting closer to July.

Will Snowblind and Combustible Map Pack be free when Dark Corners is released?

No because that would defeat the purpose of enticing people to go to the store. As people have said, if you buy All Fronts then you are essentially getting them for free.

BTW it's worth mentioning that All Fronts is a limited time offer.

When asked about the Achievements for the new DLC:

Lots, in fact more than any previous Gears DLC.
Achievement Points:

Taking it up to 1750 under the new achievement rules then I presume?

175 for the Combustible lot, 250 for the Snowblind lot, 325 for the Dark Corners lot.

Yup that adds up.

Will it be a single download? And Can I download All Fronts over existing DLC?

My understanding right now is that it's a single download so that you don't have to enter 4 different codes to get all the content. There is no issue with downloading All Fronts on top of existing DLC.

In regards to how it will affect Map Playlist and Matchmaking

No, it shouldn't have any impact on that. For TU4 we're making the core playlists offer up at least one DLC map when the vote happens if everyone in the game has that DLC. Will hopefully get some more variety in the map offerings.

I'd love it if we could do away with the Map Pack specific playlists but we can't as we want to ensure people are able to play the new content they just bought.

Epic has been pretty good with post-release support thus far, but they are about to kick things into overdrive. On July 28th, we'll be getting the "All Fronts Collection" for Gears of War 2. The collection will include every multiplayer map released thus far (Flashback, Combustible, and Snowblind) along with seven (!) new maps in the "Dark Corners" pack.

"Dark Corners" will also sport a "deleted scene from the game's campaign that takes you deep into the bowels of the Locust hollow." This segment, called "Road to Ruin" will also introduce a new stealth element, giving the player the option to get their Solid Snake on with Marcus Fenix. Or, you can just go in guns blazing.

The "All Fronts Collection" is the retail back that will run you $19.99. If you already own all the map packs, you can download the "Dark Corners" pack on the same day, which includes the seven multiplayer maps and singleplayer scene, for 1,600 MS Points ($20).

The retail package will sport a few bonuses if you were worried about the equal pricing for the box including everything and the download of just the new content. Retail buyers will grab a video commentary from Cliff Bleszinski, a custom Xbox 360 dashboard theme, a fold-out poster, and a strategy guide.

For those just interested in the maps and content, if you haven't been getting the map packs, this is an amazing deal. If you even missed getting a single map pack, this saves you money. The only people out of luck are the most faithful Epic fans that have purchased both the Combustible and Snowblind map packs as they will have already dropped $20 on DLC.

Thats absolutely insane. I don't have any of the map packs and I'm gonna get a good deal, but I can't believe that Epic did this to the hardcore fans. I knew it was a good idea not to buy them on release since its almost impossible to play on those maps on multiplayer unless your in a private room.

What they need to do is find a better way to enjoy these maps since I cant stand playing territory game types and that's why I dont play Combustible or Snowblind maps, only execution and warzone.

Now when you look at the basic setting of these so called player matches and compare them to ranked setting you realize that ranked setting is all fuzzy and weird with this gametype crap.

Just allow me to search matches with the gametype I like? Why not?

Since they cant get rid of matchmaking allow the Host select 2 maps and
let the voting begin, that way you might get some control to map and gametype you would like to play. Damn hard if you ask me..

1600 is ok, as long as they make the others free, and even then its a bit soon after SB would you not say, Id pay for it with no probelms if it was just 7 new maps and SP mission for 1600 pts, gimme gimme.

What people are worried about is the apparent lack of dedicatiojn to the fans that buy everything, also I dont think this will be any bigger than any of the other Map packs, too many people have traded in Gears 2 for the dissapointing LAG, you can pick it up brand new for £20 and 2nd hand for £10 in the UK.

Also they better integrate the maps better than having to play the DLC, that should just be for people going for the win game on each achvts or trying them out for first few weeks, they should then be dropped into the cycles like all else.

And they bettre have balanced them properly as well, and no invisible doors and fake doors etc like Pavilion and Underhill.

Are these 7 new maps new or just ported from GoW, UT3 or another Epic game? If I'm being taken to the cleaners once more and my pockets emptied for the 4th time, then I best get some new and exciting s**t. I like the idea of new story, but then it kinda of screws up everything we've learned about GoW2. I suspect, like with most games now the "deleted" sceen was not really deleted, just removed as they knew it could be added as a stand alone DLC. I just hope that, as I paid 800pts for 3 maps, that never are played and another 800pts for 2 ports and 2 new maps, again that hardly get played that I get some kind of kick back rather then fork out another 1600pts...Thats would be a grand total of 3200pts on 1 game in about 8/10months...I've not spent that on all DLC for all my other games!!! I know DLC charges are MS and not EPIC fault, but Epic/MS SHOULD let us devotees have a discount/free DLC at some point!

I play execution all the time and VERY rarely do I come across a Combustible / Snowblind map. And all my friends have the map packs. they have wingman on map packs now its all 3 map packs. and the other maps do come up in the other playlists. my friend was in a game with me and a combustible came up but he didnt have them so we had to vote against it. then another time one came up and someone that didnt have it voted for the map...he got kicked from the game making his vote not count and then it tied and went to a regular map. it was pretty funny

People are p*ssed cos they spent £50/60 on the game, 2Xmap packs (3 if you didn't get flashback code) now with additional DLC thats another 1600pts. For me that will be a total of 3200pts / £34.99/42.00Euro/49usd for 19 maps and some new story mode. While I support Epic for the New DLC i think map packs should have at least 5 maps before they can be sold as a map pack. And us that have brought at the full priced (supporting you through thick and thin) should have at least a 800pts discount on the new DLC price.

Oh its only 1600pts you say, I know that, and though I can afford it (i still have a well paid job in the credit crunch woo woo) i don't see why I should have too. After all for 1600pts your be getting 19maps and single player add on. I've paid 1600pts already and got 7 maps, 2 (flood & Fuel Station) of which must be the worst mp maps of all time! Only thing that has got me excited was War Machine - The only map that was good enough to port to Gear 2 - But Epic please do not nerf this wonderful map by removing the Troker and putting a mortar or some other pointless weapon on it.

It's the same thing over and over, cover it or get it so that it isn't used against you (unless your opponent is so bad it doesn't matter). Can we get a map pack with nothing but ammo boxes? ;)

Honestly. The map packs are probably going to be a lot cheaper alone later on or free. This isn't a huge surprise most things are like that. I'm okay with the price. We paid for those maps and we have played on them for months now. If people get them included later on it is fine they haven't played them for as long as those who bought the packs early on.

This is the same with everything we purchase. Particularly true with video games and technology. You buy something when it comes out at retail price, month later it is cheaper so forth and so on.

The issue is that one version offers all the map packs plus the new scene, while the other version just offers the newest map pack and the new scene. So Rod, I think ya have to admit that's pretty silly, both of them costing the same amount, when one version offers more then the other. But then again, as far as I know and have read, Microsoft controls the pricing scheme, so I guess in the end, you guys wouldn't have much wiggle room.

Either way I am going to purchase the new DLC.

Honestly. The map packs are probably going to be a lot cheaper alone later on or free. This isn't a huge surprise most things are like that. I'm okay with the price. We paid for those maps and we have played on them for months now. If people get them included later on it is fine they haven't played them for as long as those who bought the packs early on.

This is the same with everything we purchase. Particularly true with video games and technology. You buy something when it comes out at retail price, month later it is cheaper so forth and so on.

Feel pretty screwed here, and I only bought the Snowblind map pack. I'd probably feel different had I actually got my money's worth out of the Snowblind pack up until this point, but you never get any of those maps unless you play the Snowblind playlist... which I don't, because I hate some of the game modes in that playlist AND I actually like having more than four possible maps to play on.

For everyone who already owns all of the current map packs, this is just a big slap in the face. These people have paid a premium for every map pack to date, and they will have to continue paying a premium (1600 MS points, or $20) for the seven new maps, when everyone else can get 19 maps and all the bonus materials for the SAME PRICE? That is severely messed up.

I paid £39.99 for Gears 2. You can now but it online for £19.99. Does that mean I have been screwed? No.

That's just the way things go. Things often get bundled later on down the line and sold at a discount. Epic clearly want this release to drum up some interest in the online part of this game, probably tie it in with a new TU.

Not only nostalgia, but it was a the CENTER PIECE of the entire map. Getting a kill or two on it in a match was like getting to play with a cheat code... it ripped people in half in like 2 bullets. And head shotting noobs on it was always a good time too... it just was a key piece of my favorite map.

War Machine was perfect in every way possible. No need to alter it at all.

New game content is always nice but i have to all BS on this retail add on, it's simply too expensive for people who have already outlayed 2400 points or $15 on the current three map packs.

It's 500/$5 for each of the past 4 maps. IF you already own them, then all you're getting in this retail pack that's new is 7 new maps and a add-on chapter. $20 is too much money to pay for something like that as far as i'm concerned. Sure $20 is a steal if you don't have any of the DLC but if you already do, then it's bend over and take it time.

GoW2 is much different MP wise from GoW1. I think the map will have to be changed (only a little) to fit current gameplay.

They could do that, but I think that would cause people who don't care enough to buy the DLC not to buy the game. You'd have a 2/3 shot of being kicked from a game.

What if the Mulcher was mounted like a troika and then could be taken off and carried around like in halo. That would satisfy both worlds.

I hope that boomshot is on a boom/torque cycle. I think the weapons were perfect torque/longshot in gears1. Combating long range weapons.

I also wouldn't mind more night maps like...Bullet marsh. I think people hated that map, but playing it for the achievement actually made it kinda fun. The dark raining setting was really different and cool too.

Now if i wish to buy the Dark Corners Map Pack that is an additional 1600 ms pts.

SO in total a loyal fan would have shelled out 3200 ms pts for the updated content over the development of this game, but the player who has not purchased will only have to shell out $22

I am paying a greater price for the content, content which i purchased and have not been able to play because of the nature of how EPIC's playlist work, along with its matchmaking.

1600ms pts for this new DLC is not a good value considering you can go purchase the whole pack for $20 dollars and i am screwed on pricing.
