Been fighting this skylight trying to get it to cast nice shadows. However it seems to be ignoring the whole casting shadow thing. The brightness of my indoor areas is the same as the outdoor....?

Like DM-Sanctuary the skylight seems to be working right but my settings match it so I am not sure what is happening here. So are there any special settings that need to be set that I am missing someplace. I just cant stand the washed out look of the sky light. But I do not want to go though adding a cluster frack of lights if you know what I mean.

The skylight you place shouldn't be so bright. You should add directional lights to act as the actual sun light.

Nevermind I found a work around that works well. I set the skylight to a brightness of .005 then used a point light ramped up the radius now shadows look good.

But if there is a way to do it though skylights feel free.

Yeah, the skylight is kind of mis-leading. It pretty much sets an average light for all areas, rather than being an actual 'skylight.'

Skylight - is how dark is darkest shadow on your map, set its brightness to 0.12 - 0.2
directional light - emulating sun, add more to get fuzzy shadow edges, total brightness around 1.2 - 1,7
skydome mesh - turn off casting shadows or else it will make one huge shadow size of map.
