How can i make a small hole in the terrain

I need to make a small hole in the terrain for a cave enterance... ive tried usign the terrian visibility tool but it only seems to make large holes in the terrain!

any help would be amazing,

lower the MaxTesselationLevel in terrain properties. However, the less you set this value to, the less your terrain will LOD, and the more resources will be used.
