So I just got done altering my RAAM custom to be a completely new character and created a little bio for him and everything - yes, super dorky i know ;)

Anyway, pics are at the photobucket account and here's the bio:

Bio Detail

General Lakshman

'Baird here. From what I've gathered, it seems Raam had a brother - or something like that. His name was Lakshman and just like Raam, he climbed the ranks to become a general. It says on this tablet here that he led the locust forces fighting off the Lambent. Probably why we've never seen him. At one point or another he got banged up pretty badly and while he recovered, the right side of his face, including his eye, was horribly disfigured. Even after all that, he continues to fight the Lambent, leading the locust forces himself in the thick of the battle, just like Raam! Says on one of the tablets when he was a Theron, his entire horde was slaughtered but Lakshman walked away, his enemies in ruins. Wow, this guy is brutal. Hope he's dead...for our sake.'

'The infection must not spread! FOR THE QUEEN!' - Lakshman

Lakshman carries a custom-built troika loaded with immulsion tipped rounds. Each round, while not explosive enough to blow apart a normal body, is just enough to send shockwaves through a Lambent's system. The physiology of the Lambent can't handle the rapid injection of normal immulsion. He also carries a boltok pistol and short sword for close combat. The blade of the sword is blessed by Kantus priests.

Sword is up....nothin too fancy. Black sword that resembles Raam's and one I had in my backstock of parts - painted of course. WOOT!

I will bite.

How did you come up with the name?

heh....THANK YOU!

Well, I figured RAAM had some sort of importance, so I started researching the name. Turns out RAAM is the romanized (from the original script) version of the Hindu character Rama. Rama is considered to have been an Avatar of Vishnu - and basically from what I understand committed genocide on the warrior caste in his time. Apparently, the warriors had become too powerful and thus, the gods were angry...or something to that extent.

Rama had a brother who helped him in this crusade named Lakshmana, or Lakshman (the romanized version of the original script again.) Both were great warriors and I figured it's an original name with a meaning - ya know?

Trying to find the romanized versions of the names was painstaking at best. Basically, it's the romanized version of the original language/script. When translated into English, the spellings change. Raam becomes Rama and Lakshman becomes Lakshmana. Neat stuff indeed and I got a peak into another culture while at it ;)

In other news, I've officially started work on Michael Barrick of the comic as can be seen in my WIP folder :D

I am glad I asked. Character names are always better with some history behind them, like Fawkes from Fallout 3

Creative! Wait till some Hindu Gears fan finds out you made their famous God, a game villain :D :P

Personally I love the name RAAM, sounds great for a Character like General RAAM!

Shouldn't it be "Laakhsam," if Rama turns into "Raam"?
Also, I believe that his name came from Raum (this is how Raam is pronounced). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raum. He switches between being a crow or being a humanoid -- much like Raam can have a surrounding force of fluttering kryll englulf his humanoid frame.

interesting.....

Lakshman is the hindu spelling that accompanies Raam in the texts that I found.

That's very interesting about Raum. It definitely fits about the crow stuff. However, I'm almost positive that it came from the Hindu scripts due to Raam being an avatar of Vishnu (ie, Myrrah) and destroys the warrior class due to them becoming too powerful (ie, humans.) Raam was a great warrior to begin with. It just seems to fit. Perhaps the kryll encircling him was taken from Raum and Raam is an combination of the two.

When all is said and done, I don't know where Epic got the name but it seems a very interesting choice that was probably influenced by something else. Skorge sounds more made-up than Raam does. Raam has two 'a's in the middle...you don't generally just come up with a name in your head that has double vowels...heh.

Myrrah (Myrrha) is from greek mythology, though...

In Greek mythology, Myrrha was a daughter of the king Theias of Assyria and the mother of Adonis by Theias. Two different versions of Adonis' birth existed.

1.The most commonly accepted version is that Aphrodite inspired Myrrha with lust to commit incest with her father, Theias. Myrrha's nurse helped with the scheme. When Theias discovered this, he flew into a rage, chasing his daughter with a knife. The gods turned her into a tree (a myrrh) and Adonis eventually sprung from its trunk.
2.It was also said that Myrrha fled from her father and Aphrodite turned her into a tree. Adonis was then born when Theias shot an arrow into the tree or when a boar used its tusks to tear the tree's bark off.

I have to admit, RAAM's brother would make the game very interesting, but maybe if he became infected by the lambent. Ooh! What if he became the leader of the lambent! That would be f-ing cool!

well, the lambent seem to be a collective....so they don't have a leader per se....who it would be interesting to see him as lambent...hmmm...wonder how i could make that work....i could add green to his armor (the lambent have green pants instead of red....go figure)

servBot It would be cool to see all the Drones you costumized. And if you could explain how you did it. By the way do you know what would happen if I took my Series 1 box set Drone's Helmet off and put the Helmet on another Drone? Is it just as simple as removing the Helmet and gluein it on another Drone head? I am asking cause when I get my Hive Set I don't think that the Heads will fit the Headshot Drone. And if they don't I was thinkg about just taking the helmet off origanal head and puting it on a Headshot head. Thanks I look forword to seeing more of your Gears comstums.

Well, the helmeted drone has a smaller head underneath the helmet as well as a canal for the helmet to sit in. It's glued on and can actually be popped right off. When I cloned my helmets, I had to but away the drone's heads that I put them on.

The easiest thing to do to replace a post is to find a dowel or other cylindrical object that fits snug into the headshot drone's base and remove the post from the head you want on there. Then, drill a hole to place the stick in and glue it inside the head. Viola, new post that fits.
