i am just curious if epic is actually going to be monitoring this tourny...considering that there is so many lag switchers and bridge connecting ppl out there that make sure they are host to lag switch...i just hope that for example in the running for any prize *not likely but just saying* that i face a lag switcher and lose...is there any way to get that justified...cuz if not...its just going to be a pointless match considering it will be a battle of the better lag switcher and who can get host all other legit players out there won't have a chance

from my understanding you dont have to win the match to be entered. You just need to participate in the specific game mode for the day.

Do you need to complete a game to be qualified? I had a Submission match today that the Host quit before the match ended. I did another just in case (That I completed to the very end). Just wanted to be sure, because, I know Warzone is going to be a hard gametype to get into (I have never once been in a Warzone match)

Yes, you need to complete the game.
Why is it so hard for you to find a warzone game? that's about all I usually play! of course I'll be doing the different gamemodes for this play and win though.

its says CLEARLY you have to play public matches, and i pretty sure you have to finish the game.
IT WAS A B TCH TRYING PLAY SUBMISSION TODAY, I NEVER PLAY SUBMISSION. I HAD TO KEEP QUITTING BEFORE THE MATCH STARTED BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD VOTE SUBMISSION.
THIS IS WHY EPIC NEEDS TO CHANGE HOW THE PLAYLIST WORKS, AND GOD I MISS MAP CYCLING

@the MadMann:
I'm not sure. Every time I play the Elimination playlist, I end up in Guardian with people looking for the Achievements (fine by me, I need them too), or I get Execution. If it's Warzone on one of the choices, either no one chooses it, or everyone forces a tie.
And, I agree, took me about 15 games to get a complete game of Submission today. Did get a couple Meatflags for the Achieve though. :D

Ugh - why can't we just play private matches? It takes 5 minutes just to get into a public game. Then - there's no guarantee you'll even get the right game type voted.

This event is also meant to have people play the other types of gears more and not have people go into a private match and have an easy game. I really don't see how hard it is to just play a certain game type and you also don't have to quit out of games just because you didn't get the type you wanted as it ruins the fun of the game for the people who stay.
Please just stay in the game and just wait to get the game you want as other people want to have fun besides you and every time you quit you make it harder for them to enjoy the game since they now have to fill the gap of a missing player.

I wonder if any of you are experiencing this. I find that the game times don't match. I played Execution last night 2/3/09 around 11 PM EST and on the Multiplayer Leaderboard it has me as having played on 2/4/09 @ 11:34 AM.
Today is 2/4/09 and the current time is 9:55 AM. That means that somehow I've played this game in the future already. Even if one was using GMT that would have meant I played the game on 2/4/09 @ 5:34 AM GMT, not 11:34 AM as listed on the Multiplayer Leaderboard.
I just don't understand where they are getting these times from. You wonder if the times are wrong, what else is incorrect.
Anybody else experiencing errors with the times they "actually" played vs. the time "posted" indicating when they played?
By the way for the 13 Days Contest you "must" play a Public Match - the terms of the contest were clarified. Private Matches will not count. Also they are using PST time. Based on that if you are in NY and the time is 2/4 @ 2 AM EST, you are still eligible to play the game type for 2/3 since the time is still 11 PM on 2/3 according to the rules.

OK that really shows something is wrong. The times are suppose to be GMT, you are in the GMT time zone and your time is off by 5 hours. Makes sense on my end, since my times are off by 10 hours. I'm in EST which is suppose to be -5 hours GMT. If they are using those times for the contest, lots of players will not be registered especially if they play towards the ending times. It put me playing the game the following day. So not just the time was off, but the date too!

I have repeatedly tried to contact Microsoft and Xbox Live to address this issue - I keep getting shuffled around and automated reply emails. (sigh) Obviously the sweepstakes team wasn't thinking ahead about how their participants would be able to track their status. (Hell, it'd have been nice to get a confirmation email indicating that you are even enrolled - I took a screen cap of the "Thank you" message just in case...)
I'm in the same boat as you are - I'm on the east coast in the US and the GMT times on the stats page seem to be at +10 of my original times. It makes me a little concerned that I have to also factor in the start times of each day are in PST, so I have to subtract some additional time.

I noticed the time problems too. I am at GMT -6. I played a game of King of the Hill today (2/5) around 2 pm CDT. It logged it online as 2/6 at 2:10 am GMT. That is six hours later than it should have been. Not a big deal since when you convert from GMT to PT, it is still on 2/5. However, I played submission on 2/3 around 9 pm CDT. It was recorded as 9 am GMT on 2/4. Even if you take of the 8 hours for converting to PT, it is not on 2/3. Did the game count for me? Anyone from Epic going to address the issue for us?

I also noticed that my game of execution did not get logged. I know for a fact that I played the game because I had a big paper due that night but didn't want to start until I got my game done. Is it possible that the host quitting canceled the game and I didn't receive credit? I've been pretty psyched up for the sweepstakes and I would hate to be out of the grand prize drawing because some loser wanted to protect his rank.

Remains to be seen and hard to tell. However, if the times that are logged are these times, then the answer would be that the game won't count. Hopefully Epic will either 1) fix the time posting or 2) use the actual time based on PST as stated in the contest rules. If (2) then everything will be fine. Still it would be nice if the correct times would be displayed. If though they say times are posted as GMT, that is not correct since in my case they are off by 10 hours.

I agree with what you are saying. I simply add 3 hours to my local time in EST and that is the cutoff time - 2:59 EST on Feb 8 is 11:59 EST on Feb 7. That's workable, but the times on the Stats is definitely wrong.
Definitily the times on this site are wrong - by 10 hours for people in EST. Whether this is being used to track or not, it should be correct. That is Epic's responsibility.
Question is - is MS using these times or not. That's the question!

I have a feeling that the game has to be played through "completion". If interrupted whether because the Host ended or exited the game or a player leaves prematurely, it would stand to reason that it might not count.
You probably won't ever know precisely since there is such doubt based on these times issues being recorded properly. All my games that I've played have been recorded, as being played on the correct game type. It's the times that are "whacked" out by 10 hours.

You should review the sweepstakes rules for this game. It provides the date notification takes place. It's also important that you XBL contact if is 100% accurate.

This is stated on the stats page on the left hand side "Note: All dates and times reflect Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)." Greenwich time is actually the next day depending on what time it is locally for each individual, so hopefully that answers everyone questions about the time issues. The contest has to be played between 12:00am-11:59pm Pacific time. I happen to live in Pacific time so its really easy for me, but your stats on this website is based on Greenwich time. Yes, depending on where you are in the world and the local time, it could be the same day, the previous day or the next day. However, when you convert to GMT, every one's time has to be the same. Hence why it's used for any time sensitive info. Each one of us knows how many hours we need to add or subtract to GMT time in order to come up with the correct local time. In EST, you subtract 5 hours, if you're in CST, subtract 6 hours, MST subtract 7 hours and PST subtract 8 hours from the GMT time. To convert your time to GMT just add the respective number of hours instead of subtracting it.
When all said and done, when you convert the GMT time posted, it's wrong by 10 hours for EST people and I imagine it woudl be off by 13 hours for PST people.
Hopefully they are not using these times for the contest.

Just requoting for truth here.
I was just looking over my webstats today and even with the GMT conversion the times are totally incorrect.
I played today's, February 11th 2009, Wingman match at 12:07PM PST. According to the webstats i played it tomorrow, February 12th 2009, at 1:07AM.
PST is GMT -8. This means that according to the Gears webstats, i played my Wingman game at 5:07PM PST on February 11th 2009, which is impossible since at the time of this post it's just now 1PM PST on February 11th 2009.
Something is very wrong with the timekeeping on the Gears 2 webstat site and it's shifting play times and dates all over the place. I sincerely hope that it will not be the base by which our entries are qualified.

I don't think it is a linear problem. EST is GMT -5 and they are getting times 10 hours off (5 more than is should be). CST is GMT -6 and they are getting times 12 hours off (6 more than is should be). It's pretty obvious that the times are just getting converted twice somewhere. I think it is getting converted the moment you play the game and converted again the moment it is published to the website. They just need to track times in the system and see where they change. If it changes twice, that is the problem. Then they just remove one of the instances. Removing the one on the website is easier because the other would require a game update. What I don't understand is why the issue hasn't been addressed yet. Are they not watching the forums? We should have gotten at least one admin saying "we are working on it." But I have seen nothing so far. I even sent an email to the forum admin directly around a week and a half ago. I haven't gotten a response back. I am really disappointed in all of this right now. The game is great but they messed up multiplayer and this contest pretty bad.

Regarding all this GMT time stuff...the rules state that game must be played between 12:01am and 11:59PM PST. So why all the GMT talk? I know the contest is over now so it really doesnt matter, but I was just wondering why the GMT discussion? This web site is GMT, but the contest was based off of PST time.
B1G FRY
02-16-2009, 09:54 PM
We are all talking about GMT because in an around about way, that is also how the contest is being done. Since games are being played all over the world, times need to be converted. The standard way to convert time is relative to GMT. Times are then converted to PST. Since the GMT times is wrong, how do we know if the PST time is correct. That is why I gave all those conversions in my earlier posts. Also, the only way we have confirmation that a match counted for us is to check the website. Since the website is wrong on the times, how do we know that EPIC is counting our games right at all.

that would be hilarious, but i would be soooo mad that they actually ripped us off like that. Here on this page it says that people will be notified like 7 days after the drawing and the drawing was supposed to be march 1st. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/g/gearsofwar2/13daysofgears/rules.htm

At this point the whole thing seems like it collapsed under the weight of the time-keeping issues.
The people responsible for collecting and correlating all the entries are probably horribly overwhelmed trying to convert all the times from GMT to PST or GMT to EST to PST, etc, and then adjusting again for the server time-keeping mistakes. I can imagine the data team looking at all the numbers and then realizing the time mistakes and wondering if all the extra work they’d have to put in is even worth it.
If they are going to stick to the contest it’s going to be a long time before all that time data is corrected. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they just scrapped the whole thing and declared “server error” as the reason, possibly for a reboot after they fix the time-keeping.
Pun aside; it’s really kind of a no-win situation. That’s probably why there’s been no official response. Saying the time-keeping/servers were messed up opens the door for a billion “I told you so.” comments and calls the whole winner selection process into speculation. Going forward and choosing winners too quickly does the same thing, it makes it look like they just arbitrarily chose winners. This, again, calls the whole winner selection process into speculation. Canceling the contest just makes everyone mad. I’m even kind of surprised that the Friday the 13th folks haven’t said something, since this reflects pretty poorly on the tie-in.
It’s potentially a huge PR nightmare. I certainly don’t envy the folks who are trying to decide a course of action on this one. Then again, last Friday was the 13th (March 13th, 2009), and they missed a pretty unique opportunity to announce something to at least keep the contest entrants updated/sated.
Who knows, maybe they're saving the winner announcement for TU3/New Maps, but i won't get my hopes up.

well, they have until march 31st to actually announce the winners on their website. Theoretically they could have drawn the winners and sent those people an email, but none of us (or them) have posted ont he boards about winning.

At this point, I think I'm letting go of the pipe dream...
It stinks, though, because I spent a good deal of time trying to follow the rules and commit playing time every day for game types that don't especially appeal to me. I also never quit a session, even when the voting selected a game type that wasn't on the contest for that day... Wish I could recover that lost time, now, 'sall.

Seriously, I had to put in some late night hours and my wife getting mad at me so that I could try and win this contest. On one of those horde ones, the host quit on us, so I had to play another match to have it count, and I wasn't even able to play the last day, so I sent in an entry. =P
Where are those winners??

Verification
I just received information in the mail today about my grand prize but they have to verify my age and get a sworn statement that I folowed the rules of the contest, along with a W-9 form to pay the taxes of my soon to be Samsung 40' 1080 P LCD flat panel TV, along with my other GOW awesome goodies.
Ahhhhh is he joking or is he serious?
Might take a month or two for them to file the papers, check my information and send me my prizes
OR
I could just be pulling your chain
