The grenades in gears of war 2, in my eyes, have taken a sharp turn for the worst.

One of the first things i noticed about gears 2 is that active down were history. and i, like most were quite pleased. but i slowly began to realized that they were just given a different name. the stun grenade. but wait, they managed to make the active down take even less skill than before! now you dont even have to hit the person! if you even get caught up in its random and sometimes delayed 3-100 foot radius, you get active downed "stunned". at least in gears 1 you had a set down time. not its seems completely random. sometimes your down for 5 seconds, 1 second 10 seconds or sometimes you just never get back up. and you can just forget it if you land on some stairs, or even a floor that not perfectly level.

seriously,why get knocked completely down? why not just a long stun, like when you get hit by your own teams mortar?

Frags. the only thing that bothers me about frags is that they can be planted, and its an instant skill free kill. and that, like smokes, the radius seems to be completely random.theres been times where grenades directly at the feet wont kill someone, and a frag that can kill someone who is easily 20 feet away. my idea for the frags are that they be friendly fire, and anyone who walks by is killed or damaged. same with smokes. thats just my 2 cents.

Hmm... friendly fire 'nades... interesting...

Sounds logical, but I think it would backfire in the end.

It'd really water down the ability to plant grenades.

And that wouldn't be good since it's a new feature to Gears 2.

i dont think it would really water it down, just make it more tactical. but i could see what your saying about watering it down. like in the instance someone on your team doesnt have a mic, they would never know of the frags you planted and then die.

Watering it down so that people won't want to plant 'nades to begin with. I know I wouldn't want to lose some of my points (what is it, -75? -100?) and push a game to sudden death because my planted frag killed my teammate (not to mention having him rant on me afterwards).

And does that mean that frags you planted and walk by after a set amount of time (to prevent you from exploding the pieces immediately after planting) are going to explode you too?

Just some things to think about.

yea thats what i mean like if you plant a nade, you have 5 seconds to clear the area. and anyone who walks by is fair game. this would make you tell your team mates where your planted frags are, and make people think about where they planted there grenades more. and have them explode automatically after 3 minutes or something.

and it would make people think more about the enemy's movement. like if the whole team is avoiding a certain area, theres probably a frag there. so im going to alert my team mates to avoid that area so none of them die.

Having them expire or explode after a certain period of time might be neat, but judging by how quickly 'nades respawn, I don't think it would be of much help.

how bout it shows a sign of where your teammates frags are.. like a prompt or something with either the locust or cog symbol on it..

I almost included that in my above post, but then I was thinking it would add clutter to your HUD...

Having them expire or explode after a certain period of time might be neat, but judging by how quickly 'nades respawn, I don't think it would be of much help.

yea nade respawns are ridiculously fast so i agree with you there. they could also make nades not respawn at all too. but that would piss alot of people off.

but then again there are many sounds going on when you play so u might not notice it unless its like the sound u hear when ur about to win on a terretories map.

I think a sound would annoy me. Maybe just the visual on your HUD when you come within a certain distance of a teammate's 'nade.

dude u are a genius. the idea abourt the stun smokes is perfect. no laying down because i have experienced being down for the entire time(check youtube its out there). also i think the mines should disappear after a while. they shouldnt be there for so long. because i know when i play Submission, i can go a while without dying and i get a couple of kills in but after im dead i spawn and wats waiting at the spawn point, ****ing nades. i think they should stay in walls for 30 sec to 1 min or at least until they respawn because they spawn really quick.
