How to add a friend while playing??

Sometimes when i play people say to add as a friend but i dont know how to do it!!!
Can i do it while playing?? How?

Another question,

Why some servers are protected and cant play those maps, and how can i join them?

You can only add friends when your offline. Go to Community - Friends - Add Friend.

This is incorrect. When you receive a friend-request ingame, just hit ESCAPE, select MESSAGES, open the particular message and select accept.
