No this isnt just a ploy to try to get some information on the expansion.

The Make Something Unreal contest runs through August 31, 2009 and between my team and my own projects there may be a couple potential submissions to future phases of this contest. I'm assuming that anything created or currently under construction would be compatible with the UT3 expansion? I also wonder how changes that come with the expansion would effect a current project as far as:

* lets say a gameplay change is made but we were mapping for UT3 as it is played now.

* code changes implemented in the expansion by Epic and how they would effect code we are working on.

I look forward to the future of UT and MSUC. thanks...

This is purely speculation on my part.....

It really depends on the level of change in the expansion. If it's really just an expansion then things will probably not be much different from a patch. Maybe rebuild the mod, with relatively few changes to anything.

However, if it's something more like UT2004, we could be looking at something where code needs to be changed to work properly, or if there are gameplay changes, parts of your map might need to be redesigned to play better.

As far as the MSUC goes, this would probably just have an affect on whatever phase comes after release. I believe the last MSUC was Phase 1 & 2 for UT2003 and Phase 3 & 4 was for UT2004. Unfortunately, this time we don't really know when the expansion will come out relative to the MSUC, so we can't really plan ahead like the last contest.

It is a bit of a risk. What if, say, the doublejump height gets adjusted? Or a map/vehicle/weapon/mutator gets added that is very similar to what you have in the making?

I suppose I'd be flattered if my ideas were "borrowed"... but still.

We will start beta testing the patch that has all the new features which would affect mod authors (but not the new content or game play) in the very near future. This patch is more substantial than previous patches, but we've tried to avoid making changes which would affect mod authors.

Definately waiting for the new patch. :)
I'm keen on seeing how the improved AI pathing works with my Babylon map. Hopefully the bots won't stop mid jump anymore. :o
