I have a crappy verizon internet connection that gives me at most 1 mbps. This is no problem when I'm never host. But for some unexplained reason, when I search for a match by myself, it always makes me host of the game which results in everyone hating me because I have a huge advantage. This happened after the update. Is there any way to fix this besides looking for matches with someone else as party leader or upgrading my internet connection? Why can't epic just use servers for petes sake. What is the logic behind this system of making me host when my connection is horrible?

Theres no logic behind anything in GoW 2 so... get used to it sucking
I get made host often aswell, and my connection is pretty poor. Only thing I would suggest is if you enter games in a party, don't be the leader of the party.

It's unfortunate that the matchmaking system seems to depend more on the luck of obtaining host, or cheaters, or highly ranked players on your team than it does actual game-playing abilities.
In Gears of War 1 the lobby system was nice because if you joined up and felt that the delay was too much, you could leave and find a different game without ruining someone else's.

It happens when you are alone because the host is the person who started the game, aka the person who waited longest for the game to start. If you are searching alone there's a very good chance the matchmaking system will have other players connect to the game you are looking for, making you host. So basically the longer you wait the greater the chance that you will get host when you are searching by yourself. Sorry if what I said doesn't make any sense, I can't really explain it any better than that.

people shouldnt get pissed cause u have an advantage thats the games fault not yours. I don't think anyone truly knows why it makes certain people host but one thing is pretty much for sure like they said above the longer you wait the more likely youll be the host as I have often found out.

old matchmaking>new matchmaking besides the fact you can now play ranked matches with friends

I have an excellent connection and I hardly EVER get host. I played 30 matches one day to see how many times I would host....I hosted ONCE!!!

That makes sense i guess. I still don't understand why they didn't just make the game pick the best connection for host though. That seems like a necessity especially with a host-based matchmaking system.

When I play on my own I quite often get host. I really don't like it because I know my connection is no great shakes and feel guilty for the other team who have to try and fight me off with probably more than a seconds lag.

if your connection isnt above 2-3 Meg you shouldnt be allowed to play on live in my opinion.

Well, like I said the speed of the connection is not a problem if you are not the host. I'll accept having lag on my end because its my connection, but making everyone have to suffer for it and not having a choice about it is just bull.

they need to have it so it searches for the person with the best connection. then assigns that person the host. it would help with the lag

I have a friend who gets host a lot and at least one player usually gets immediately dropped from the game when we enter the lobby. It's kind of messed up, but at the same time I like it when he's host because I get a better connection.

the only thing that bugs me is that the host gets the ridiculous host advantage
fix that and i wouldn't care as much
but no, you get kids running about thinking they're the **** cause they host all the time
obviously this is not intended for the OP, but there are several players who do that
